Lifelong resident of Goodland, Rosetta Mae Whiteman, age 77, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.

Rosie was born April 28, 1946 to Dennis E. and Mary Celesta (Gernhart) Humrich in Goodland. She grew up in Goodland and graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1964. 

On February 4, 1973 she married Duane E. “Mike” Whiteman. To this union five children became siblings, Mike, Mark, Kim, Sonya and Micki.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rosie worked as cook and homemaker. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing 5 at Cowboy Corner and dearly loved spending time with her family and friends. She was known as NANA to everyone.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death are her parents, sister Mary, her husband Duane (Mike) and stepson Mike.

 She is survived by her children Sonya (Steve) Schwartz of Topeka, KS, Micki (Brad) Ensign of Goodland, KS, Mark Whiteman of Fargo, OK and Kim Dudley of Woodward, OK; grandchildren, Sayler, Sage, Sawyer, Dawson, Emmi, Kyan, Vanessa, Katie, Kylene, Sierra, Chelsea, and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters Pat (Dennis) Owens of Henderson, NV and Gladys Davisson of Northern CA; and many more family and friends.

Memorial service will be Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. MT at the First Baptist Church, 1121 Main Street, Goodland. Interment following the service at the Goodland Cemetery.

Rosetta Mae (Humrich) Whiteman

HILL CITY — Hannah Lee Bebb also known as “HB," from Hill City, passed away Sept. 24, 2023, in Wichita. Hannah was born Jan. 28, 1981, in Kearney, Neb.

Hannah attended Spalding High School in Kearney and went to pursue her passion for education at the University of Nebraska/Kearney from 2000 to 2002. She later decided on a career in nursing.

She attended Colby Community College and graduated in 2009 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. While at Colby, she obtained many other certifications, including Certified Allergy Testing and Immunotherapy by the National Procedures Institute, Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation, as well as being capable to demonstrate and perform Spirometry.

Hannah was a dedicated Registered Nurse for 10 and a half years at Lemke Memorial Clinic in WaKeeney. 

On Sept. 13, 2003, in Lenora, Kansas, Hannah and Erik Charles Bebb were married. The couple became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, Abigail.

In Hannah’s free time, she loved pursuing her passion for caring and nursing by spending time with all the babies she could snuggle and love. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Everyone who knew Hannah never doubted she was in charge of keeping their bellies full, reading romance novels, and playing darts. She loved spending quality time with her husband Erik, riding along with him while he checked oil wells, and above all spending time spoiling her pride and joy, Abigail.

She is survived by her husband, Erik, and daughter,&nbsp;Abigail, and her step-mother-in-law Monica Bebb.

Hannah was preceded in death by her mother, Lori Lee Hiner; her grandmother, Eva Marie Langer, and her grandfather Melvin Langer; 11 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, her nieces: Hazel Bebb, Bonnie Bebb, Olivia Rogers, Gracelyn Speth; nephews: Donovan Bebb, Braetyn Bebb, Owen Rogers Wesley Speth, Wyatt Speth and Isaac Winkelmann; and many dear friends and colleagues.

Please join us in remembering and paying tribute to Hannah Bebb, a beloved wife, mother, and dedicated nurse. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.

On September 29, 2023, Doris Ann (Hake) Hageman passed away at Parkview Care Center in Osborne at the age of 98. She was born January 17, 1925. 

She attended school in Natoma, Kansas where she graduated in 1943. She lived in Osborne County nearly all of her adult life.

Doris was united in marriage to Arnold Arthur Hageman on October 16, 1954 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. To this union, eight children were born:&nbsp;Harold (Karma), Marysville; Mary Ann Ludwick (Doug), Vicksburg, Michigan; Alan (Anne), Topeka ; Rita McKeon (J.R. Swisher), Osborne; Richard (Tina), Norton; Gary (Kathy) Abilene; Larry (Shari McCormick), Osborne and Roger (deceased).

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Arnold, son Roger and son-in-law Shawn McKeon. Also preceding her in death are brothers Francis and James, and sisters Rozella and Betty.

Doris is survived by seven of her eight children, two sisters, Phyllis Roskilly, Carlisle, Iowa and Marilyn Spurgeon, Bellevue, Nebraska and one brother, Leroy Hake, Downs, Kansas; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Doris and Arnold spent the early part of their married life farming near Alton moving the family to Osborne in 1966. Doris worked very hard in her home raising their children.

She was an exceptional wife and mother, and cared deeply about her faith, family and neighbors. Those who knew her well know that she did not do this out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help and regularly brought meals to the homes of sick neighbors. After her children were grown she provided childcare for many different families in her home, always ensuring that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, well-fed and happy.

During the past 11 years Doris lived at Parkview Care Center in Osborne where she thoroughly enjoyed visits from friends and relatives and loved playing games and participating in the events with the residents there.

Russell Adair Hearting was born in Hays, KS to Kenneth and Carol (Sunley) Hearting on January 29th, 1947. 

He graduated Trego Community High School in 1965. Russell attended K-State in Manhattan, KS. Before completing a degree, Russell enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in San Diego, CA. After three years with the Marines, he moved back to Kansas to be closer to family. 

On May 5, 1973 he married Jeanice Engel. They had three children, Holly, Amy, and Rusty. 

Throughout Russell’s professional career, he worked in the oil fields and contributed to the family vending machine business, always happy to belly up to the bar and small-talk with business owners and employees. He was handy and entrepreneurial, especially with electronics and tube televisions. 

A familiar face in the community, Russell was a loyal and comfortable native of WaKeeney, KS. He loved meeting friends for breakfast and bottomless coffee.&nbsp;

He served his country with honor in the Marines as a young man where he learned to fly airplanes and was a member of various organizations, including the American Legion, the VFW, and the Eagles.

In his leisure time, Russell found joy in the simple pleasures of life. One of his favorite things to do was to cut wood. He was often to be found on long drives on winding country roads. He was an avid hunter, a self-taught downhill snow skier, and a boater; he loved to fly airplanes and work on hobby aquariums. Road trips to Colorado for skiing and vacationing in the mountains were yearly highlights for the entire family.

Russell will be remembered as easygoing, generous, and laid-back, a man content with his life. He was a respected husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. During this time of loss, we take solace in knowing that Russell is at peace.

Russell is survived by his wife Jeanice and three children Holly, Amy, and Rusty. Survivors also include Bevin Owens and grandson Conner Hearting. Siblings and in-laws include sister Barb Richter and husband Steve of Lynch Station, VA, brother Richard and wife Judy Hearting of WaKeeney, KS, and sister Margaret Wahlborg of Arkansas City, KS. 

Russell was predeceased by his parents, brother Duane Hearting, sister-in-law Susan Hearting and brother-in-law Elgin Wahlborg.

Russell Adair Hearting

My loving husband, our dad and grandad, was born to Elmer and Frances Penner Boehs in Isabella, Oklahoma on December 4, 1939. He left us for his eternal home on September 29, 2023, reaching the age of eighty three years. Dad often talked of living in a happy home and learning to work at an early age. 

When he was fifteen years old, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and found a peace flooding his soul. His father, Minister Elmer Boehs baptized him into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on February 15, 1955. The faith and the church were precious to him all his life. 

Dad fell in love with our mother, Laverda Jantz and they were joined together in marriage on January 10,1960 at Fredonia, Kansas, by Minister Elmer Boehs. They adored each other through the joys and sorrows of life and were completely devoted for 63 years. 

On February 23,1968, Dad was ordained into the ministry by Minister Harry Wenger at Fairview, Oklahoma. He loved to preach the saving gospel. His compassion and love for the hurting and troubled souls of man inspired him to reach out to them. He desired that everyone would know the hope and freedom from fear that is found in Jesus Christ. Putting his heart into serving on different church boards became an important part of his life. Dad was especially enthused with tent meeting evangelism. 

In 1990, a new chapter in our parents’ lives began by moving to Lakin, Kansas. He raised alfalfa and developed the Quality Hay grinding business. He very much enjoyed western Kansas. The new Lakin congregation brought joy. Just a few weeks ago he gave his testimony in church of the love and thankfulness he felt for the Lakin brotherhood.

Dad valued people. Nothing was better than visiting with family and friends or meeting new ones. It didn’t take long and he was visiting about the serious, important issues of life. Faith in an almighty God and thankfulness were pillars that he held to. 

We as a family knew him as a loving, adoring husband, caring, generous father and a kind, optimistic grandad. He often expressed his love and we leaned on him for guidance and support. Our hearts ache with the separation but we long to be together at Home forever.

Survivors include his loving wife LaVerda , children Melodee and Corwin Smith, Mike and Kristy Boehs, both of Lakin, Kansas; Michele and Doyle Nightingale, Fulton, Kentucky; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, siblings Virginia and Alton Unruh, Greensburg, Kansas; Polly and Robert Schneider,&nbsp;Perrinton, Michigan; Elaine and James Nightingale, Scott City, Kansas; Kendall and Rosanna Boehs, Mountain Grove, Missouri; Maureen and Denton Koehn, Ulysses, Kansas; Mom’s family; Barbara Jantz, Moundridge, Kansas; Harold and June Jantz, Neodesha, Kansas; Roland Schmidt, Brooksville, Mississippi; Marilyn and Gaylord Schmidt, Galva, Kansas.

Preceding him in death were his parents, parents-in-law, one sister, one brother, four sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Lakin Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas.

In 1990, a new chapter in our parents’ lives began by moving to Lakin, Kansas. He raised alfalfa and developed the Quality Hay grinding business. He very much enjoyed western Kansas. The new Lakin congregation brought joy. Just a few weeks ago he gave his testimony in church of the love and thankfulness he felt for the Lakin brotherhood.Dad valued people. Nothing was better than visiting with family and friends or meeting new ones. It didn’t take long and he was visiting about the serious, important issues of life. Faith in an almighty God and thankfulness were pillars that he held to. We as a family knew him as a loving, adoring husband, caring, generous father and a kind, optimistic grandad. He often expressed his love and we leaned on him for guidance and support. Anna Marie Kauten, 100, of Norton, KS passed away September 30, 2023 at the Andbe Home in Norton. She was born August 30, 1923 in Norton, KS to Clarence and Hattie (Hill) Thompson in Norton, KS.

Anna grew up in Norton and was a 1941 graduate of Norton Community High School. 

She married Willis Kauten on November 20, 1952 in Norton. To their union, two children were born, Sue and Jim. 

Anna worked as a secretary for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Norton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norton, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and the Monday Federated Study Club. She enjoyed bowling, reading, loved cats, and truly enjoyed her time outside gardening or working in her yard. Most of all, Anna loved spending time with her family.

Anna is survived by her children: Jim (Patty) Kauten of Norton and Sue (Ed) Stacey of Bentonville, AR; four grandchildren, Brandy Kauten, Logan (Ashley) Kauten, Morgan (Spencer) Reeves, and Josh (Jenna) Stacey; 2 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis; twin granddaughters, Kandis and Kayla Kauten and siblings, Ione (Sandy) Jordan, Thelma (Owen) Watkins, Erma (Louie) McDougal, and Harold (Maxine) Thompson.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023 in the Norton Cemetery.

Dellors Elaine Catterfeld, 62, passed away September 30, 2023, at her home in Great Bend. She was born December 19, 1960, in Hutchinson, to Larry Ellsworth, Sr. and Lorrine (Stevens) Ellsworth. 

She married Robert W. Catterfeld in Great Bend. He died January 23, 2001.&nbsp;

A longtime Great Bend resident, Dellors was a cook for the Great Bend Senior Center and had previously worked at Barton Community College and USD 428. She was a member of the Great Bend Sportsman Club and was an avid fisher.&nbsp;

Survivors include a son, Tyler Swank and wife Shonita of Hoisington; two daughters, Lacy Fox and husband Dustin and Melissa Wilson and husband Benjamin all of Kinsley; a stepson, Scott Catterfeld of Lansing; three stepdaughters, Shawn Wilson of Ottawa, Shannon Boller (Bill) of Candenton, Mo. and Wendy Radke (Craig) of Spring Hill; two brothers, Larry Ellsworth, Jr. (Kelly) of Hutchison and Shannon Thacker of Atchison; a sister, Diana Hayward of Great Bend; 19 grandchildren, Zoe Barta, Nakita Barta, Ace Prather, Boomer Foster, Shelby Foster, Michael Barr III, Daisy Rehme, Colton King, Naomi Fox, Robert Wilson, Aurora Wilson, Michael Fox, Dean Fox, Grace Fox and Lukas Fox; five great-grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 18 stepgreat-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Catterfeld; a brother, Chad Ellsworth; a sister, Becky Thacker; and a grandson, Chance Fox.&nbsp;

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Richard "Dick" Romig Sheets, 99, of Leoti, Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 28, 2023. He was born on March 11, 1924, in Topeka, Kansas to Edvin and Hazel Sheets.

Dick was a loving husband to his late wife, Rosamary, who passed away March 8, 2020. She truly was the love of his life as evidenced by the suitcase of love letters they each wrote to each other before they married and have saved throughout the years. &nbsp;

Dick was a devoted father to his children and is survived by; son, Scott Sheets and his wife Vicki of Brewster, Kansas, daughter, Becky Miller and her husband Richard of Leoti, Kansas, daughter, Peggy Wolken and her husband Dan of Gravette, Arkansas, and son, Ted Sheets and his wife Brenda from Poteau, Oklahoma. He took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Sondra (Jeff) Brown of Riverton, Wyoming, Beau (Tara) Sheets of Riverton, Wyoming, and Tad Sheets of Woodward, Oklahoma, Drew (Rachel) Miller of Lakin, Kansas and Lindsey Miller of Dallas, Texas, Jessica Wolken of Gravette, Arkansas and Spenser (Maura) Wolken of Knoxville, Tennessee, Colton (Holly) Sheets of Houston, Texas, and Lucas Sheets of Austin, Texas. Dick had 13 great-grandchildren, Jaylee, Macee and Blaine Brown of Riverton, Wyoming; Kamdyn, Ty, Clay, Kynnedy and Karsyn Sheets of Riverton, Wyoming; Emma, Kate, Luke and James Miller of Lakin, KS; and Frances Ann Sheets of Houston, Texas.

Dick is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Ann Streeter of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Virginia Lee Fryer of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and his brother, Scott Sheets of Los Molinos, California.

Dick had a strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to sharing his love for Christ with others. He lived his life as an example of that love, always pointing people towards Christ. &nbsp;He was an original member of Christ Covenant EPC Church in Leoti. &nbsp;He and Rosamary served in the church for many years.

Dick enlisted in the Army Air Corps right after his high school graduation and was trained and served as a pilot and flight instructor in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was known for his skill in aerobatics and his passion for flying which he continued after his service to his country.&nbsp;

Dick loved to golf and he and his wife, Rosamary, were regulars on the golf course in Leoti. &nbsp;They enjoyed many hours together and with friends on the course. &nbsp;He and his beloved Rosamary also cherished the time they would spend at their son Scott’s ranch near Brewster, Kansas. &nbsp;They were quite handy and took enormous pride in checking and fixing the miles and miles of fence.&nbsp;

Another one of Dick's favorite pastimes was spending time in the Sangre de Cristo mountains above Westcliffe, Colorado. He always found solace and peace in the great outdoors, surrounded by nature's beauty. He also loved to sit for hours on the prairie of western Kansas calling in coyotes.&nbsp;

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas. The Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Leoti is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family is immensely grateful and deeply appreciative of the exceptional attention and support provided to dick by the exceptional staff of Wichita County Long term care, as well as the previous care he received at Lakin Assisted Living.

Gerald G. “Gary” Arnhold – age 86, of Hays, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the University of Kansas Health Center, Kansas City, Kansas.

He was born January 30, 1937, in Hays, Kansas to Edgar J. and Beatrice (Karlin) Arnhold. He married Bernadette “Bernie” (Sander) on June 14, 1958, in Victoria, Kansas.

He was a road grader driver for the Ellis county road and bridge department for 14 years and retired in 1999. He worked in construction for 10 years with Allied Construction Company, and lived in Hutchinson for a few years working for Cessna before moving back to Hays in 1969.

Gary grew up in Hays and attended St. Joseph Academy and Hays High School. He worked at L-K Dairy, Cross Manufacturing, and in the oil fields. He was an outdoors person enjoying fishing, hunting, coaching baseball, vegetable and flower gardening, and an avid Chiefs fan. He was a self-taught in many areas and his family always came first.

He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and St. Nicholas of Myra Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree.

His survivors include his wife, Bernie, of the home; his children, Karla Byfield and husband, Martin, of Hays, KS; Kelly Leiker, of Alpharetta, GA; Kristie Arnhold, of Hays;&nbsp;Kurt Arnhold and wife, Lynda, of Hays, KS; his ten grandchildren, Brandon and Blake Byfield; Kaycie Byfield; Aaron and Cheryl Leiker; Shawn Leiker; Jordyn and Blake Irwin; Jason and Meagan Englert; Jared Englert; Scott Englert; Ashley Lang; Adam and Malory Arnhold; and his 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Beatrice; his son-in-law, Ron Leiker; his granddaughter, Sarah Marie Arnhold; his brothers, Leroy Arnhold; Daniel Arnhold; Edgar Arnhold, Jr.; his sisters, Rita Pfannenstiel; and Lorraine Dinges.

He worked at L-K Dairy, Cross Manufacturing, and in the oil fields. He was an outdoors person enjoying fishing, hunting, coaching baseball, vegetable and flower gardening, and an avid Chiefs fan. Connie Victoria (Gassmann) Albers, 35, passed away on September 24, 2023 in Oakley, KS. Connie was born on May 23, 1988 to John George Gassmann and Vickie Beth (Wilson) Gassmann in Hoxie, KS. Connie was raised on the family farm and this is where her love of animals began.

Connie graduated from Norton Community High School in 2006. After high school, Connie earned her associate’s degree in vet tech from Colby Community College. 

On February 7, 2015, Connie married Fredrick “Lee” Albers at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Almelo, KS. 

Connie loved her animals Jazzy, Daisy, and Duke. She loved life and found the good in everyone she met.

She is survived by her husband Lee, her parents George and Vickie, brothers Randy (Beth) Gassmann, Jeremy Gassmann, and sister Alice (Matt) Berens, nephews Johnathan (Harley Kester) Gassmann, William (Taylor) Gassmann, Luke James, nieces Maggie James, Elaina Gassmann, Emily James, Abbie Gassmann, Alexis Gassmann, and Hannah James, great-nephew Brantley, great niece Haisley, childhood buddy Nick Austerman, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

David Dennis Dreiling was born on June 9, 1949, in Berthoud, Colorado, to Michael and Pauline (Hepp) Dreiling. &nbsp;After battling illness, he passed away peacefully at his home in Phillipsburg, Kansas on September 22, 2023. &nbsp;

Dave attended school in Brighton, Colorado where he earned his high school diploma in 1967. &nbsp;

On April 18, 1969, Dave was united in marriage to Debra Ann Greenrod and the couple celebrated 50 years of marriage together. &nbsp;To this union, two daughters were born, Tracie Ann and Amy Beth. &nbsp;

Dave worked as a truck driver, farmer, and realtor in Colorado before moving to Smith Center, Kansas to begin a new career as a motel owner. &nbsp;He and Debra purchased the Modern Aire Motel in 1984. &nbsp;In 1992, they increased their ownership when they bought and rebuilt The Cottonwood Inn in Phillipsburg, Kansas. &nbsp;Dave always enjoyed visiting with the guests and listening to their travel stories. &nbsp;Dave retired from the motel business in 2018 when the motel was sold.

For as long as anyone can remember, Dave loved hunting and fishing. &nbsp;On his days off of work, he could often be found in a goose pit, walking a field looking for pheasants, or sitting in a boat with a fishing pole in his hand. &nbsp;Dave was the best bird scout around. &nbsp;He spent many hours and miles driving around the countryside looking for birds, to share a scouting report. &nbsp;He enjoyed parking near the hunting spots and using his “Nebraska Fish Finders” to keep an eye on the hunters. &nbsp; A favorite summer pastime was towing the grandkids behind the boat. &nbsp;He took great pleasure in hearing their laughs and screams as they tried their best to hold onto the tube as it was whipping across the wake. &nbsp;

Another joy of Dave’s was watching his grandchildren in all of their varied activities. &nbsp;He could always be found at a music concert, ball games of various sports, school or community play, or watching a parade for that single float. &nbsp;If any one of them were involved, he was there as a proud fan and grandpa!

Dave was a good-hearted man who worked hard, enjoyed life, and cherished his family and friends. &nbsp;He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his memory will love on in our hearts and minds. &nbsp;

Dave is preceded in death by his wife Debra Ann Dreiling, parents Michael and Pauline Dreiling, and brothers Jerry and James Dreiling.

Survivors include his daughters Tracie Ford and husband Kelly of Phillipsburg, Kansas, and Amy Dreiling and significant other Adam Huenergarde of Plainville, Kansas, sisters Sandi Medina, Mary Kay (Larry) Eversman, brother Michael Dreiling, &nbsp;five grandchildren: Mickalee McCartney, Abagail McCartney, Jordan Ford, Joel Ford, and Jeremy Ford, and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.

David Dennis Dreiling

Larry Russell Chestnut was born on May 2, 1947, in Phillipsburg, KS to Roy Chestnut and Norma (Hoover) Chestnut, the second of seven children. He passed away August 24, 2023, at his home in Glade, KS at the age of 76.&nbsp;

Larry grew up on a farm outside of Glade, KS and attended school in Glade and Kirwin KS. Larry loved farming and it would always be a part of his life, whether doing his own or helping others be they family or friends.&nbsp;

On May 27, 1972, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lans in Stamford, NE. They were blessed with four children: Brad, Julie, Ty, and Matthew. They made their home on a farm outside of Glade and raised their family.&nbsp;

Larry wore several working hats in his lifetime: that of a mechanic at Ulrich’s Chevrolet and Tamko in Phillipsburg; a grader operator for Phillips County; a farmer at his farm outside of Glade; a bartender at the Branding Iron in Speed; and a business owner of the Triple C Café in Glade.&nbsp;

He was a lover of country music who not only enjoyed listening to it, but also loved playing it on his guitars and fiddle, especially with his Grandpa Tommy. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, first with his kids and then with his grandkids. He loved his family and spent his time recounting stories or just talking about what was going on with the kids or grandkids at that moment.&nbsp;

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Norma Chestnut, brother, Alan Chestnut, and sister, Connie Reese.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Shirley, of the home in Glade; their children, Brad Chestnut and wife Diana of Glade, KS; Julie Hodnett and husband Jim of Elk City, OK; Ty Chestnut and Julia Ghiardi of Glade, KS; Matthew Chestnut and wife Jennifer of Glade, KS; nine grandchildren, Lane, Shelby, Jake, J’Lynn, Lucas, Lexi, Laramee, Claire, and Clayton; brother, Dennis Chestnut; sisters, Joyce Campbell, Joan Russo, and Terri Greer, all of Speed, KS.&nbsp;

Allen Scott Cheney, 53, of Rexford, KS died Tuesday, September 26, 2023. He was born July 21, 1970, to John and Phyllis (Dahl) Cheney, in Colby, KS. 

Allen graduated from Golden Plains High School, in Rexford, KS, in 1988. He attended Goodland Vo-Tech and completed the carpentry program. He also received an associate degree from Colby Community College. 

Allen spent several years working as a carpenter and roofing houses. He then started working for Frontier Ag and became the manager at the Rexford elevator. Allen enjoyed his work, maybe a little too much, and made several friends throughout the years. He also served as the Rexford Fire Chief.

 Allen was loyal, funny, honest, and would tell it like it is. He enjoyed tractors, guns, farming, dogs and spending time with his mom. He also liked spoiling his goddaughter, Amanda Cheney. He tolerated hugs from his relatives and his younger cousins called him “Uncle Alf.” Allen was a good man who was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Allen Scott Cheney

Sheryl Jean Neeland, 66, passed away September 29, 2023, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend campus. She was born August 12, 1957, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Dale and Ella (Koch) Hartig. 

On July 28, 1990, Sheryl was united in marriage to Craig Neeland in Ellinwood, Kansas.&nbsp;

Sheryl grew up in rural Ellinwood, Kansas, graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1975. She received her associate’s in nursing from Barton Community College and continued her education at Fort Hays State University with a bachelor’s in education degree in 1983. From there, Sheryl received her master’s in counseling degree in 1993.&nbsp;

Sheryl loved to spend time with her children, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law, as well as her grandchildren. She touched the lives of many children in Great Bend. She was a kindergarten teacher and school nurse at Riley Elementary, a guidance counselor at Jefferson Elementary and Park Elementary and then at the Great Bend Middle School. She worked for the Great Bend USD 428 District for a total of 38 years. She was instrumental in developing Reality U at the middle school. 

Sheryl was active in many local volunteer organizations including United Way of Central Kansas and Memories Matter Camp. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Craig Neeland of the home; two children, Sarah Trujillo and husband Tyler of Hugoton and Adam Neeland and wife Alex of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Madden and Ella Trujillo, with a grandbaby Trujillo to arrive in December; one brother, JR Hartig (Bernie) of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Carol Byrd (Eugene) of Birmingham, Alabama; and many nephews and nieces.

 </figure>August 12, 1957 - September 29, 2023Sheryl Jean Neeland, 66, passed away September 29, 2023, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend campus. She was born August 12, 1957, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Dale and Ella (Koch) Hartig. On July 28, 1990, Sheryl was united in marriage to Craig Neeland in Ellinwood, Kansas.&nbsp;Sheryl grew up in rural Ellinwood, Kansas, graduating from Ellinwood High School in 1975. She received her associate’s in nursing from Barton Community College and continued her education at Fort Hays State University with a bachelor’s in education degree in 1983. From there, Sheryl received her master’s in counseling degree in 1993.&nbsp;Sheryl loved to spend time with her children, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law, as well as her grandchildren. She touched the lives of many children in Great Bend. She was a kindergarten teacher and school nurse at Riley Elementary, a guidance counselor at Jefferson Elementary and Park Elementary and then at the Great Bend Middle School. She worked for the Great Bend USD 428 District for a total of 38 years. She was instrumental in developing Reality U at the middle school. Sheryl was active in many local volunteer organizations including United Way of Central Kansas and Memories Matter Camp. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella.&nbsp;Survivors include her husband, Craig Neeland of the home; two children, Sarah Trujillo and husband Tyler of Hugoton and Adam Neeland and wife Alex of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Madden and Ella Trujillo, with a grandbaby Trujillo to arrive in December; one brother, JR Hartig (Bernie) of Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Carol Byrd (Eugene) of Birmingham, Alabama; and many nephews and nieces. Lifelong Phillips County resident, Gregory A. Babcock passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS at the age of 67.

He was born March 23, 1956 in Phillipsburg, KS, the son of Donald and Gloria (Bushnell) Babcock.

Greg was united in marriage to Kim Newlin on July 22, 1978 in Phillipsburg, KS. &nbsp;She survives.

Other survivors include his children: son Grant Babcock and wife Megan of Littleton, CO, and daughters Megan Irvine and husband Brian of Littleton, CO and Melissa DeWitt and husband Randy of Manhattan, KS; seven grandchildren; his father Don Babcock of Phillipsburg; and a sister, Donita Pemberton and husband Jim of Russell, KS.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother Gloria and a brother, Gordon.

Cremation was planned. &nbsp;A memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the Huck Boyd Community Center, Phillipsburg, with Pastors Tony Keesee and Lew VanDerWege officiating. &nbsp;The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Olliff-Boeve Momorial Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Greg Babcock Memorial Scholarship. &nbsp;This scholarship is to be awarded to a PHS graduate entering a trade school.

Myron Gene Rein, age 60, died at his home September 23, 2023. &nbsp;He was born April 3, 1963 in Ness City, the son of Cletus and JoAnn (Dreasher) Rein.

After graduating from Bazine High School in 1981. Myron worked most of his life in the oil field around Ness County. &nbsp;He loved sports, especially KU basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football. &nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by three brothers, Dale of Wichita, Joel (Deneise) of Hutchinson, Alan of Bazine and three sisters, Cindy Rein of Wichita, Patty Legleiter (Neil) of Hays, Julie Roane of WaKeeney and sister-in-law Vonia Rein of Cimarron; also many nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Daryl, Brad and sister Paula.

Valery N. “Val” Schumacher, age 66, of Victoria, Kansas passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Victoria, Kansas. He was born May 13, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was adopted by Norman J. and Yvonne M. (Feltis) Schumacher when he was eight months old.

 </figure>May 13, 1957 - August 25, 2023Valery N. “Val” Schumacher, age 66, of Victoria, Kansas passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023 at Victoria, Kansas. He was born May 13, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, and was adopted by Norman J. and Yvonne M. (Feltis) Schumacher when he was eight months old. Val lived in Elkhart, Kansas and Gretna, Louisiana before the family moved to Victoria in 1973. He was a 1975 graduate of Victoria High School, and a member of Basilica of St. Fidelis. He worked as a certified nursing assistant at St. John's Nursing home in Victoria and St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays prior to returning to Louisiana where he worked in the hospitality field. He moved to Arizona in 1985 where he owned and operated a flower shop and also worked in home healthcare. He returned to Victoria in 2006 where he lived with and helped care for his parents before their passing. Most recently Val was a Senior Companion for over eight years. He loved this job because it allowed him to do the things he loved best, caring for and entertaining others. Val enjoyed playing cards, working on large print word search puzzles, and visiting friends and family. Val’s survivors include his sister, Vicki Schmidtberger, Santa Clarita, California; his nieces and nephews, Norman Schmidtberger and wife, Heather Kaplan; Kathryn Schmidtberger and fiancé, Keith Roberts; and Beth Fischer, all of California; Glenn Schmidtberger, Jr., of Taiwan; his aunts, Jeanette Younger, Victoria, KS; and Rosetta Feltis, Denver, CO; his cousins, and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Yvonne. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis. Victoria, Kansas with Father James Moster O.F.M. Cap. Inurnment will be at St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.
