Rodrigo San Juan died Friday January 12, 2024 at his daughter’s home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born March 13, 1936 in Caltimacan Tasquillo, Hidalgo, Mexico the son of Francisco San Juan San Juan and Cristina Hinojosa. He married Petra Ortiz Zamudio in 1958 in Mexico. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2007.

Mr San Juan came to the United States initially as a Bracero farmworker in the 1950’s and later brought his family over to settle in Garden City. He enjoyed reading the bible and listening to Pedro Infante, Jorge Negrete and Vicente Fernandez. He was very friendly and enjoyed visiting with family and friends, sharing fond memories of times gone by.

Survivors include his Children- Lucia San Juan Franco, Fernando San Juan Ortiz, Armando San Juan Ortiz, Victoriano San Juan Ortiz, Lorenza San Juan Cruz and Pedro Martinez, Gonzalez; 20 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren. In addition to his wife he is preceded in death by his Parents; 3 sons &amp; Sister- Matilde San Juan Hinojosa.

Visitation will be held 12:00-8:00 pm Wednesday January 17, 2024 with a evening Vigil Service starting at 6:00 at Templo Emmanuel Asamblea de Dios, 1401 Buffalo Jones Ave, Garden City, Kansas. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday January 18, 2024 also at Templo Emmanuel Asamblea de Dios with Pastor Fidel Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Rodrigo San Juan

Logan resident, Kenny Mac Wilkison, passed away at the Phillips County Hospital, on December 16, 2023, at the age of 84.

Kenny was born in Dighton, Kansas, on January 1, 1939, to his parents Thomas and Inez (Torson) Wilkison.

Kenny and Donna (Reese) Wilkison were united in marriage on June 8, 1958, in Logan, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Inez Wilkison.

Survivors include his wife Donna Wilkison of Logan, Kansas, sons Mike Wilkison and wife Shelly of Beloit, Kansas, Mitch Wilkison of Logan, Kansas, and daughter Marsha Wilkison of McCook, Nebraska, as well as 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Troy Buss, will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at the Logan Christian Church in Logan, Kansas. The service will be live streamed on the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.facebook.com/people/Olliff-Boeve-Memorial-Chapel/100055272974764/">Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page</a>. Following the service, inurnment will take place at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Logan.&nbsp;

Kenny Mac Wilkison

Loretta Jean (Grauerholz) Beckmann went to meet her Lord on January 11, 2024, at SunPorch of Smith County in Smith Center, Kansas. She was born on August 23, 1929, on a farm near Cedar, Kansas. She was the second child of Walter and Frieda (Hermanns) Grauerholz. She was baptized on September 15, 1929, by Pastor Alfred Fleishman and confirmed on April 18, 1943, by Pastor Fred Efenbeck at St. John Lutheran Church, Athol, Kansas.

She attended Silver Ridge Grade School and graduated from Athol High School in 1947. She attended Bethany College one year and taught country school one year.

She was married to Fred Beckmann on April 30, 1950, by Pastor George Dirks also at St. John Lutheran, where she was a lifelong member. To this union were born two children: Duane and Cheryl.

In addition to being a farm wife and homemaker, she was employed at Smith Center Memorial Hospital from 1975-1995. Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren.

Music was very important to her, and she was involved with music at her church in multiple ways. She directed the men’s choir for many years, sang in the ladies’ trio, planned special music, and played the organ for worship. She was also active in the St. John’s Lutheran Woman and served on many committees. She was on the history committee for the church’s centennial in 1994 and planned all the music for that celebration.

Fred and Loretta made many trips to Colorado to see their children and grandchildren. Many special memories were made on trips with their daughter and her family. Another highlight was a cruise to Alaska as a 50th anniversary gift from Duane, who accompanied them. Many years later she traveled to Washington D.C. and many historic sites in the area with her daughter Cheryl and granddaughter Jessica, and another memorable trip was to San Diego with Duane and his daughter Tashina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Waldean Grauerholz, and eight brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous friends.

She is survived by her son, Duane Beckmann, and daughter, Cheryl (Kevin) Schenk; grandchildren: Shea Beckmann and finace Mariia Shteiher, Tashina (Nicholas) King, Jessica (Ryan) Welker; great-grandchildren: Isokan and Akoni King; sister Corrina (Ray) Haresnape, brother Delbert (Shirley) Grauerholz, sister-in-law Blondina Kuhlmann, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dean, age 65, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on September 6, 1958, in Las Animas, Colorado, the daughter of Charley Raymond &amp; Leona Larrew Hunt.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1982 moving from Goodland, Kansas, she was a retired office manager for Bill Curtis Trucking in Scott City, Kansas.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On September 6, 1985, she married Clifford L. Dean in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on October 7, 2013, in Scott City, Kansas.

Lea Mae Dean

Gary Dean Mantz was born July 6, 1942 at the old Baker Hospital in LaCrosse, KS to Ed and Violet (Brack) Mantz. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Bazine. He graduated in 1961 from Bazine High School. He married Dianna Misegadis March 4, 1962 at the Methodist Church in Rush Center, KS. To this union two children were born, Brenda in 1963 and Greg in 1966. Gary and Dianna raised their children, farmed and had a small dairy herd on his Grandpa Mantz’ homestead just north of Bazine. He also hauled oversized fiberglass tanks for KBK Industries, Rush Center for 19 years, 1989-2008. After retiring from KBK, Gary and Dianna had a small herd of beef cattle, which in later years required assistance from their son and grandson. Gary passed away Monday January 8, 2024 in Ness City KS at the age of 81. Gary was a lifelong member of the Bazine Seventh Day Adventist Church.&nbsp;

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, &nbsp;D.H. “Dick” Misegadis and Irma (Fox) Misegadis, his sister, Kay (Mantz) Fiala, 2 brothers-in-law, George Fiala and Fred Lewis, 2 sisters-in-law, Robin (Wright) Misegadis and Mary (Dale) Misegadis.

Gary Dean Mantz

Marvin Kenneth Thomas, age 92, of Hays, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2023, in Hays.

He was born Aug. 18, 1931, in Steinauer, Neb., to Andrew and Anna (Schmit) Thomas. On June 13, 1949, he married Donna Vance. She preceded him in death in April of 1994. 

He married Arleta “Joan” Guard on Oct. 5, 1995. She preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 2019.

Marvin had owned businesses of Oldham Sales, an automotive retail store, and Northwest Distributors, an automotive wholesale supplier in Hays. Marvin was an avid sports fan and participant. He enjoyed baseball, bowling, traveling softball tournaments, including all-star tournaments that he enjoyed playing in.

He was a long-time member of the Fort Hays Golf Course as well as Smoky Hill Country Club where he was the Senior Club Champion numerous times.

Marvin is survived by a son, Duane Thomas of Hays; daughters, Connie Schmidt of Lincoln, Neb., and Michelle Thomas-Hay and husband Chris of Lincoln, Neb.; a brother, Jim Thomas of Lincoln, Neb.; grandchildren, Craig Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt, Drew Thomas, Dena Thomas-Aouassou, Taylor Thomas, Madison Exstrom and Katie Hay as well as 10 great-grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Valeria Dezort, Gaylord Thomas and LaVern Thomas.

He married Arleta “Joan” Guard on Oct. 5, 1995. She preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 2019.Marvin had owned businesses of Oldham Sales, an automotive retail store, and Northwest Distributors, an automotive wholesale supplier in Hays. Marvin was an avid sports fan and participant. Velma Mae Cousins, better known as Mae, died Tuesday, Jan. 09, 2024, at the Logan County Senior Living.

Mae was born on Nov. 29, 1924, at her home in Oakley, to Simon Dawson and Myrtle Dawson (Deshong) of Oakley; the sixth of seven kids.

She was a lifelong resident of Oakley for 99 years.

She was born during the “Great Depression” and grew up as the “Dust Bowl” ravaged the Kansas Prairie; and during the Presidency of Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States.

On June 22, 1944, Mae married Harold William Cousins of Menlo. Mae then had to watch and wait as Harold was sent to Europe to fight in the Second World War as a paratrooper. When Harold returned from war, and was discharged from the Army, they settled down in Oakley, where they raised five children.

Mae was a fixture around Oakley. She could normally be seen checking you out at Traders, and later IGA. Mae could also be found waiting tables and cooking at her brother Darrold’s restaurant, The Little Café in Oakley.

Later in life she worked at Costal Mart before they closed. The handmade crafts that Mae and Harold made could be bought at her nephew David Nelson’s restaurant, The Colonial Steak House.

Once again in the late 1960’s, Mae had to watch as her oldest son was sent off to Vietnam. The second time she had to wait and worry for a loved one to return from war.

Mae’s grandchildren would come and spend the summers with her. All were expected to help around the house. Mostly working in Mae’s huge garden, setting and clearing the dinner table. The one thing everyone could expect at Mae’s house was a huge meal. Mae loved to cook.

Mae was preceded in death by her parents Simon and Mrytle Dawson of Oakley; her husband Harlod Cousins,of Oakley; four brothers, Archie Dawson age 2 ½ of Oakley, Gilbert Dawson of Oakley, Darrold Dawson of Oakley and Si Dawson of Oakley; two sisters, Cora Vavricka (Dawson) of Oakley, and Louise Nelson (Dawson) of Oakley; two sons, Simon Cousins of Oakley and Randy Cousins of Branson, Mo.; two grandchildren, Michelle Cole of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Marvin Cousins of Oakley and many nieces and nephews.

Judith Ann “Judy” Werth, 81, La Crosse, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse.

Judy was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Hot Springs, Ark., the daughter of Meinard “Doc” and Mildred (Pate) Meier. She was a resident of Rush County for 54 years, moving from Ellis County. A 1960 graduate of Hanston High School, Hanston, Judy continued her education, graduating from St. Anthony’s Nursing School, Hays, as an RN. She worked at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, for 48 years before her retirement.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, and the Red Hat Society.

Judy loved her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She enjoyed traveling, reading, conquering puzzle books, gardening,and painting.

On Sept. 14, 1963, she married Harold M. Werth at Hanston. He preceded her in death Jan. 8, 2002.

Survivors include: one son, Harland Werth (Lori), La Crosse; two daughters, Kim Stejskal (Brian), Bison, and Sonya Sackett (Mike), Kechi; six grandchildren, Logan Beard (Amanda), Haslet, Texas, Mariah Werth, La Crosse, Nicole Stejskal, Addison, Texas, Zach Stejskal (Taylor), Timken, Ian Sackett, Wichita, and Jared Sackett, Washington, D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Jo Beard and Georgia Beard; two brothers, Meinard “Bud” Meier, Anson, Texas, and Jim Meier (Gayla), Crowley, Texas; and three sisters, Elaine Keesey (Jack), Molino, Fla., Lanay Meier, Salina, and Bernie Hardesty, Kansas City, Mo.

Judith Ann 'Judy' Werth,

James L. Wolcott, 94, of Greeley, passed away on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at The Greeley Village.

He was born Dec. 29, 1929, in Wethersfield, N.Y., one of 13 children born to Basil Raymond Sr. and Eleanor Winifred (Gross) Wolcott. He farmed with his family milking cows and growing potatoes,and corn until joining the U.S. Air Force and serving four years during the Korean War. 

While in the service, he dedicated his life to Christ at a Billy Graham Service. He continued reading the Bible and sharing the news about God until his passing.

After serving his country, James received a bachelor’s degree from Rockmont College in Longmont, Colo.

While working on his bachelor’s degree, he met Carol Schreiber, who would become his wife on June 3, 1956. 

They married at the Hamlet Union Church in Hamlet, Neb. When they finished college, they moved to Carol’s family dairy farm in Palisade, Neb. On the farm with Carol, they were able to raise their three children. 

In 1998, he retired from farming and moved to Imperial Nebraska and began working at Crop Production Services. Then in 2015, he moved to Greeley, Colo., to be with his daughter. James was always willing to lend a hand to sort cattle, help a friend fix irrigation sprinklers, or to hoe weeds and enjoyed taking care of the chickens. 

He loved spending time with his grandchildren and always had a wink and a kiss for them. James was a member of the Hamlet Union Church, where he served on the board and taught Sunday school classes. He also attended Imperial Bible Church and the Windsor Cornerstone Baptist Church.

He was a 4-H leader, an ABS representative, and traveled on several mission trips to construct homes. 

Survivors include two sons, Kim Wolcott (Lisa) of Mercedes, Texas, and Brent Wolcott of Holdrege, Neb., a daughter, Eleanor (Eli) Podtburg and husband, Ken of Greeley, Colo., two brothers, Doug, and Keith, two sisters, Mary, and Nancy, and eight grandchildren: David Wolcott, Joy Wolcott, Kayla Perks, Tyler Wolcott, Joel Wolcott, Cody Wolcott, Megan Podtburg, and Mindi Podtburg, and five great grandchildren. Also, there are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his wife Carol, a grandson, Jason, his brothers, Basil Jr., John, Vincent, Dennis, Bob, Daryl, and Paul and sisters, Ellen, and Winifred.

James Lemar Wolcott

Jolene Marie Deges, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and aunt, peacefully departed this world surrounded by loved ones at her home on Dec. 31, 2023, at the age of 61. Born on Dec. 25, 1962, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital to Glen and Twila (Eberle) Bliss, Jolene's journey was marked by love, dedication and unwavering commitment.

Jolene's story unfolds with her graduation from Trego Community High School in 1981, where she met the love of her life, Ed Deges, at a dance in Collyer. Their love blossomed, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together, sealing their union in marriage on Sept. 26, 1981, in WaKeeney. Their shared joys included raising two wonderful children, Justin and Nicole.

A dedicated farmwife, Jolene played an integral role in Ed's farming pursuits in Cimmaron, and later in WaKeeney. Her versatility shone through as she embraced roles first at the Western Kansas World and later at the Farm Bureau, serving as a secretary. Jolene's entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish her own insurance company, Deges Insurance, after mastering the intricacies of the insurance business.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jolene found joy as a cook for Trego Community Schools in her later years. Her work ethic and passion for life were evident in all she did.

Away from work, Jolene reveled in moments spent at the lake, camping, boating and fishing, with family, children and grandchildren. Family was at the core of her existence, and Jolene took immense joy in attending the activities of her kids and grandkids.

Jolene is survived by her loving husband, Ed; son Justin (Nikki) Deges, Grinnell; daughter, Nicole Jacob, Colby; grandchildren, Treven Humphries, Kaitlynn, and Coltin Deges; Nevaeh and Trenten Price; Dalton and Cheyenne Jacob; mother Twila Bliss; brothers, Clarence (Conni) Bliss, WaKeeney, Glen, (Chris) Bliss, Ogallah, and Dan (Michealle) Bliss, Ogallah; and grandmother, Katie Eberle.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glen, grandfather, Alfred, and other beloved aunts, uncles, nephew and extended family members.

Born on Dec. 25, 1962, at Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital to Glen and Twila (Eberle) Bliss, Jolene's journey was marked by love, dedication and unwavering commitment.Jolene's story unfolds with her graduation from Trego Community High School in 1981, where she met the love of her life, Ed Deges, at a dance in Collyer. Their love blossomed, and they embarked on a lifelong journey together, sealing their union in marriage on Sept. 26, 1981, in WaKeeney. Their shared joys included raising two wonderful children, Justin and Nicole.A dedicated farmwife, Jolene played an integral role in Ed's farming pursuits in Cimmaron, and later in WaKeeney. Her versatility shone through as she embraced roles first at the Western Kansas World and later at the Farm Bureau, serving as a secretary. Jolene's entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish her own insurance company, Deges Insurance, after mastering the intricacies of the insurance business.Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jolene found joy as a cook for Trego Community Schools in her later years. Her work ethic and passion for life were evident in all she did.Away from work, Jolene reveled in moments spent at the lake, camping, boating and fishing, with family, children and grandchildren. Family was at the core of her existence, and Jolene took immense joy in attending the activities of her kids and grandkids.Jolene is survived by her loving husband, Ed; son Justin (Nikki) Deges, Grinnell; daughter, Nicole Jacob, Colby; grandchildren, Treven Humphries, Kaitlynn, and Coltin Deges; Nevaeh and Trenten Price; Dalton and Cheyenne Jacob; mother Twila Bliss; brothers, Clarence (Conni) Bliss, WaKeeney, Glen, (Chris) Bliss, Ogallah, and Dan (Michealle) Bliss, Ogallah; and grandmother, Katie Eberle.She was preceded in death by her father, Glen, grandfather, Alfred, and other beloved aunts, uncles, nephew and extended family members.A memorial mass for Jolene's life will at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney. Viola Rose Scott, age 91, from Hays passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. 

She was born Aug. 5, 1932, to George and Thelma (Thomas) Clark in Morland,.. Viola was a graduate of Hill City High School, and shortly after graduating, she married Ernest Scott in WaKeeney on July 8, 1950. He preceded her in death on Jan. 23, 1992.

She worked at the Fountain Dry Cleaners in Hill City, bookkeeper for Ernie's Auto Repair in Hill City, Gabel’s Bakery, Super 8, Travenol, and the Senior Companion Program all in Hays.

She enjoyed playing pinochle and other card games, bingo, embroidery, watching football and having coffee with the ladies.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Johnson of Hays, Rhonda (Ray) Cook of Dodge City, Gloria (Arnie) Bates of Grand Island, Neb.; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Scott, her parents George and Thelma Clark and her sister Norma Dreiling.

Private family graveside services were at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Hill City, with arrangements in care of Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601.

Viola Rose Scott

Gary Dean Mantz was born July 6, 1942 at the old Baker Hospital in LaCrosse, KS to Ed and Violet (Brack) Mantz. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Bazine. He graduated in 1961 from Bazine High School. He married Dianna Misegadis March 4, 1962 at the Methodist Church in Rush Center, KS. To this union two children were born, Brenda in 1963 and Greg in 1966. Gary and Dianna raised their children, farmed and had a small dairy herd on his Grandpa Mantz’ homestead just north of Bazine. He also hauled oversized fiberglass tanks for KBK Industries, Rush Center for 19 years, 1989-2008. After retiring from KBK, Gary and Dianna had a small herd of beef cattle, which in later years required assistance from their son and grandson. Gary passed away Monday January 8, 2024 in Ness City KS at the age of 81. It is with both great sadness and humble acceptance of God’s will, we announce the passing of our beloved Sherri J Weippert, 67. Sherri passed away peacefully at her home in Ness City, KS surrounded by love and the sweet sounds of Andy Griffith on January 9, 2024.

She was born to Albert Shewmaker and Donna Blunk (Leterle) in Corydon, Indiana on September 13, 1956. They are deceased.

Sherri was a native of southern Indiana and spent the last 40+ years in Southwest Kansas. While she enjoyed building her life and family in Southwest Kansas, Indiana was always where her heart truly remained.

Upon her move to Southwest Kansas, the eternally beautiful Sherri met a staggeringly handsome man named Gerald Brock, with whom she had three beautiful daughters. They were married in 1981 and later divorced. Gerald precedes her in death.

A lifetime resident of the Garden City area, Sherri chose to move to Ness City in her latter years to be near two of her sisters. She very much enjoyed having her “sister time”.Sherri spent most of her life working for the State of Kansas. She began her work at SRS and then moved over to the Kansas Department of Transportation, before going back and retiring from SRS in 2011.

To Sherri, her family was her world, especially her grandchildren. Every moment spent with her family was a moment she treasured. Nothing brought her greater joy than the smiles of her grandchildren. With them, every day was an adventure.

In her spare time, Sherri was known to partake in a card game or two. She joined a lady’s card group and referred to them as her “Card Gals”. Other than her card group, Sherri was, on occasion, known to politely whip a family member in a nice friendly game of cards.

Sherri also enjoyed crafting. When COVID hit she decided to turn her dining room into a makeshift mask factory, making masks for the community. She enjoyed making children’s masks, especially when she could customize them to bring a smile to the children’s faces. Sherri also enjoyed cooking and serving. Sherri could make a fruit plate design that would put Martha Stewart to shame. It was nothing for her to be asked the night before to create 2 dozen 49ers cupcakes for grandson’s birthday at school and have them delivered by 7 amu sharp. No matter the task, she would always deliver.

Sherri’s favorite day of the week was Thursday. Every Thursday, like clockwork, she would make her “Thursday calls”, always setting time aside to reach out to friends and loved ones, just to check in and see what was going on in their lives.

After losing her daughter to cancer in 2018, Sherri realized the immense impact that a simple home cooked meal could provide to a family who needed it. She would often volunteer for meal trains or just offer a helping hand to people suffering from cancer. She was also known to adopt a family during the holidays, providing them with gifts or other needs. She also served the ABW and cherished her time spent with her Sisters in ChristSurvivors include two daughters, Jamie Brock, Garden City Kansas, and Michelle Daniels (Matthew), Lakin Kansas; Three sisters, Karen Lowe, Corydon, Indiana, Deb McInnis and Anita Burditt (Keith), Ness City, Kansas;Nine Grandchildren, Erica, Gabriel and Micheal Otero; Mariah, Dominick, and Allyson Daniels; Kyler, Kase and Jerin Jameson; Three step grandchildren, Maddie Robinson (Chandler), Belle Jameson, and Shane Olson Wichita, KS; Four great grandchildren, Baxter McCarty, Mason and Mateò Otero, and Mia Porter; Two step great grandchildren, Westin Robinson and Delila Rae; A special mother figure, Lois Hinkle; Her distinguished, Frank Sinatra loving Shih Tzu, Tripp. And many beloved and cherished friends.

Sherri J. Weippert

Christopher Gerhard “Chris” Dinkel, 57, Hays, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at HaysMed surrounded by his wife and two daughters.

He was born April 8, 1966 in Hays, Kansas the son of Melvin J. and Clarita (Pelzel) Dinkel. &nbsp;Chris grew up loving sports and working alongside his dad at LK Dairy. &nbsp;He attended Thomas More Prep Marian High School and Fort Hays State University where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in education. Chris was united in marriage to Kimberly Bagby on July 21, 1990 in Hays. This union was blessed with two beautiful daughters, Katelyn Brianne and Joslyn Kae. With the help of his dad, Chris built the family home where they raised their girls and celebrated 33 years of marriage.

Chris taught and coached football at LaCrosse High School before transitioning to Hays High School where he taught for 25 years. After retirement, he accepted a position with Otis-Bison High School where he was working to develop their Industrial Technology Program. His purpose as an educator was to help his students recognize their full potential and to support their endeavors inside and outside of the classroom. The impact he had on his students often extended far beyond their high school years.

Outside of teaching, Chris owned his own business, Dinkel Design &amp; Building, where he designed countless commercial buildings and residential homes in the Hays community and surrounding areas. Chris also spent many years farming and ranching alongside his grandfather near Catharine, Kansas.&nbsp; In his limited downtime, Chris enjoyed boating, fishing, football, spending time with family and friends, and occasionally trying his luck on the slot machines.

Despite Chris's many accolades and accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. He worked tirelessly and devoted all of himself to his wife and daughters. He recently discovered, however, that perhaps his greatest joy of all was to be a second-to-none Papa. Chris had an unwavering faith and strong moral compass that he always strived to pass on, living by the motto, "because it's the right thing to do."Chris is survived by his wife, Kim of Hays, two daughters, Katie (Brandon) Clay of Topeka, and Joslyn Dinkel of Salina, a granddaughter Elliott Clay, his brother, William “Bill” Dinkel of Hays, and numerous extended family members.&nbsp;

Christopher Gerhard "Chris" Dinkel

Elzana Marie Rowe, of Dorrance, KS, passed away on January 6, 2024, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS, at the age of 74. She was born on March 12, 1949, to Edward and Wilma (Garrettt) Thielen in Russell, KS. She married Jerry Lee Rowe on September 16, 1969, in St. Michaels, Arizona at the Navajo Reservation.

Elzana grew up in Dorrance and graduated from Dorrance High School in 1967. After high school she went to Cosmetology School in Salina. Elzana and Jerry lived in Arizona, Chicago and later moved to Seattle where they owned Eye’s Rite Optical until 2005 when they moved back to Dorrance.

Elzana was a very patient, laid back person and had a good sense of humor. She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She loved butterflies and animals and was a garage sale queen; but mostly she loved her family and spending time with Jerry. They were a team and were always together.

Elzana is survived by her sons, Craig Rowe and Edward Rowe of Dorrance, and Aaron Rowe of Terre Haute, IN; sister, and Jeanine (Steve) Eschbaugh of Wilson; sister-in-law, Barbara McGee; and three grandchildren, Kylie Rowe, Gage Bean, and Cash Rowe.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Wilma Thielen; husband, Jerry; siblings, Brian &amp; Phillip Thielen and Marcine Howey.

Elzana had a deep love and devotion for her husband, children, family, and friends. Her great love and faith in God were not only a constant source of strength for herself, but also for all who knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, at 10:30 AM with visitation at 9AM until service time at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dorrance.

She loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She loved butterflies and animals and was a garage sale queen; but mostly she loved her family and spending time with Jerry. They were a team and were always together.Elzana is survived by her sons, Craig Rowe and Edward Rowe of Dorrance, and Aaron Rowe of Terre Haute, IN; sister, and Jeanine (Steve) Eschbaugh of Wilson; sister-in-law, Barbara McGee; and three grandchildren, Kylie Rowe, Gage Bean, and Cash Rowe.She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Wilma Thielen; husband, Jerry; siblings, Brian &amp; Phillip Thielen and Marcine Howey.Elzana had a deep love and devotion for her husband, children, family, and friends. She was born
August 5, 1955, in Wichita, the daughter of George R. “Dick” and Virginia Marie
(Graham) Lochmann.&nbsp; In 1973, she
graduated from Hays High School.&nbsp; She
worked as a line supervisor at several manufacturing companies.&nbsp; Julie was a member of Westview Church.&nbsp; She will always be remembered for her
beautiful smile and contagious laughter.&nbsp;


After
retiring, she loved music and going to concerts, cheering for the KC Chiefs and
KU Basketball, watching Yellowstone, trips to the lake, and driving in the
country.&nbsp; Throughout her life, she
passionately loved her pet dogs and cats and all animals in general.&nbsp; She was a great cook and specialized in fried
chicken.&nbsp; She loved to laugh and was also
tender-hearted.&nbsp; Most of all, Julie loved
her family and cherished celebrating holidays with them. 

Survivors
include her two daughters, Faith Lochmann and Christin Baxter, both of Hays,
four sisters, Lana Ross of Dodge City, Janis Anderson of Larned, Jorgie
Dreiling of Antonino, and Bonnie Rudzik of Cimarron, a granddaughter, Hannah
Baxter and fiancé Jordan Dietze, a great granddaughter, Indigo Dietze, and a
special lifelong friend, Raymond Jensen.

She was
preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Dickie Lochmann and John
Steinmitz.

Funeral
services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Westview
Church.&nbsp; Inurnment will be at a later
date in Mount Allen Cemetery.&nbsp; Memorials

Allan Joseph LeRock, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on January 6, 2024, at his home, at the age of 73. He was born on March 7, 1950, to Garth William and Clara Agnes (Hrabe) LeRock in Stockton, Kansas.

Allan grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1968. In 1968 he met Sheryl at the Rooks County Fair. Together they attended Fort Hays State University and were married June 6, 1971, in Alton, Kansas. He worked part-time at C.O. Mammels and later worked for Gary’s Western Auto for many years.

He enjoyed collecting, camping, fishing, and watching KU, K-State and Chiefs football. He had many special furry kitty friends.

Allan is survived by his wife, Sheryl LeRock, of Plainville; sister-in-law, Verlene LeRock, of Plainville and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary LeRock.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Plainville Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 1:00 P.M at the funeral home in Plainville.

Janice Lee Blender, age 76, of WaKeeney, Kansas, peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Long Term Care.

Born to Francis and Bernitta (Hargitt) Wheatcroft on January 10, 1947, in Quinter, KS, Janice embarked on a life filled with compassion and dedication. A proud graduate of Dighton High School in 1965, she continued her education, eventually becoming a certified nurse aide. For 32 years, she dedicated herself to the well-being of others at Trego County-Lemke Long Term Care.

On January 27, 1973, Janice married John Thomas Blender. &nbsp;Though John passed away on April 29, 1977, their bond remained a cherished part of Janice's heart.

Janice's commitment extended beyond her professional life. A member of Eagles Aerie #3774 for 40 years, she served as president and conductor, leaving an indelible mark on the organization. She found joy in simple pleasures—savoring a good cup of coffee, losing herself in a captivating book, and enjoying the thrill of bingo.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved son, Chester Blender of WaKeeney, KS; sister, Lucille Benton of WaKeeney, KS; brother, Joe Lynn Wheatcroft of Illinois; sister-in-law’s, Beverly Lundstrom and Kay McCabe; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Bernitta Wheatcroft; her husband, John Thomas Blender; and brothers, Dennis Royce and Phil Marion Wheatcroft.

A funeral service to celebrate Janice’s life will be held on Thursday, January 11, at 10:00 a.m. CST at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, Kansas. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. CST. &nbsp; Following the service, she will be laid to rest at the WaKeeney City Cemetery.

&nbsp;Joseph “Joe” Charles Youngblood Jr., passed away on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, at his home. He was born on March 27, 1958, and was just a few days old when he was brought home to Atwood, by his parents J.C. and Mary Jo (Cox) Youngblood. It was an event much anticipated by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

His growing up years were pretty typical. There were many years of Boy Scouts, showing of his outstanding athletic skills and discovering his love of the outdoors. Most especially, his love of cars and motorcycles. From the mechanics of how everything worked, to racing across the pastures, daring bumps, jumps off cliffs and the thrill of the ride, motorcycles were a love he never lost.

The fascination of how things worked mechanically, Joe learned from his dad. Joe and his dad worked together for many years farming with one issue - Joe’s long curly brown/blond hair was a problem for J.C. This continued to be one until a solution was found. The solution was Joe’s first mullet! Short in front, long in back.

After working alongside his father for several years, Joe made the simple announcement to his family. “I’ve found my Susie!” Susie (Files) and Joe were married on April 25, 1986, and settled onto their farm south of Atwood. In addition to this union, Joe took on the role of helping Susie raise her daughter Angye. They began a lifetime of planting a garden and generously sharing the resultant produce with many. There always seemed to be a few critters being pampered as well.

Summer leisure time for the family included spending time at their trailer near Trenton Lake. Many hours and days were spent fishing, boating, and just enjoying their time with other lake families.

Back on the home-front, there were things to do, including the care of Susie’s dependent sister Linda. As Susie’s mobility issues worsened, Joe became the main caregiver for everyone, and needed to spend most of his time at home. For him, it was a selfless act of love. Following Susie’s passing, Joe continued to live on the farm, gardening and working around the place as usual. He was looking forward to spending more time with the grandkids, and passing along the legacies, skills, and history of the family he loved.

Just as the future was looking so promising, Joe’s own health got in the way. It is up to us to look forward!

He is survived by Angye, husband Jay Covert, of Topeka; four grandchildren, Jackson and Mason of Topeka, Isabella of Missouri, and Karissa Covert of Nebraska; sister, Jane and husband Mike Griffith; niece Kara Wicke, her two sons Tres and Tavon; nephew Garth Griffith, wife Aubrey their daughter Navy all of Atwood and nephew Clayton Griffith, wife Katie their two daughters, Paige and Paityn of Alaska and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by the “love of his life” Susie; his parents J.C. and Mary Jo; and his in-laws Gene and Jerry Files.

Memorial service will be held at the Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 2:00 pm with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. There will be an Open House to visit with family at the Griffith Home (522 State) from 4 to 6. All are welcome!&nbsp;&nbsp;
