Roseann Bieker, age 79, of Schoenchen, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. She was born March 5, 1943, in Schoenchen to Isadore and Loretta (Werth) Dinges. On May 28, 1966, she married Kenneth Bieker in Schoenchen. He preceded her in death June 26, 2017. Roseann had worked for her parents at Dinges Drapery, LaCrosse Furniture for twenty years and retired from the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. She was a graduate of Schoenchen High School. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the St. Anthony Altar Society. Roseann enjoyed doing yard work, cleaning, watching game shows and sports especially the Chiefs, Royals and Jayhawks. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and genuinely enjoyed her time taking care of the grandchildren. Roseann is survived by a son, Kevin Bieker and wife Lois of Schoenchen; two daughters, Laurie Werth and husband Steve of Schoenchen and Kenda Moore and husband Rex of Kearney, Nebraska; two brothers, Milton Dinges and wife Gladys of Hays, and Tom Dinges and wife Susan of Schoenchen; a sister, Pam Basgall and LaVerne J. Dreiling of Schoenchen; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Adam) Kinderknecht of Hays, Heather Werth of Schoenchen, Adrianna (Austin) Haselhorst of Hays, Sheldon (Allyson) Werth of Hays, Audrey Bieker of Schoenchen, and Kolin Basgall, Jarrett Moore and Camden Moore all of Kearney, &nbsp;as well as eight great grandchildren, Aliyah and Aidyn Kinderknecht, Jaylin and Jaxtyn Irvin, Lennox and Wren Werth and Willow Haselhorst. She was preceded in death by three infant sisters.&nbsp; Funeral services will be 10 AM Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen. Elizabeth “Ann” Day, 78, passed away April 7, 2022, at Hospice House.
 She was born July 23, 1943, in Scott City, to Raymond A. and Juanita P.
 (Piros) Frank.

Ann graduated from Hutchinson High School and Peel’s Beauty College. 
She was a city kid who quickly adapted to farm life and no one outworked
 her. From sun up to sun down, Ann happily made sure everyone’s needs 
were taken care of, often neglecting her own. She loved quilting and 
gardening and was the glue that held the family together. Spring was 
Ann’s favorite time of the year because it meant she could go play in 
the dirt. Everything Ann created with her strong hands turned into a 
masterpiece. It gave her great joy to teach her great-grandchildren some
 of her rare talents. Ann was a life-time member of DDR, a unique 
organization devoted to the preservation of America’s great Western 
heritage.

On August 23, 1968, she married Russell E. “Russ” Day, in McPherson. 
They shared nearly 49 years of marriage before his death on August 9, 
2017.

Ann is survived by: her daughters, Robin Fitzgerald (Tony McClelland)
 of McPherson, Brenda McLaughlin (Donny) of Kansas City, MO; 
grandchildren, Jimmy Rue, Ryan Oxley (Nicole), Amanda Oxley, Leah 
Milner, Trevor Milner; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Peter Day; and sister, Nickie Saunders.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2022, at Elliott 
Chapel. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. 
Following the service, the family invites everyone to join them for a 
meal at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Arlington United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Mortuary.

Elizabeth 'Ann' Day

Gene Miller, 94, of Hutchinson, passed away on April 7, 2022. He 
helped family write this obituary years before he passed. Gene was born 
in Sedgwick, KS, on January 5, 1928, to Muriel Miller and George D. 
Miller. He grew up on a farm and enjoyed visiting his farmland 
throughout his life.

Gene left school to join the United States Navy at age 17 and served as Fireman, 1st
 Class, on the USS Daniel 335, in the South Pacific and for six months 
on the island of Guam. He was a lifetime member of the Destroyer Escort 
Sailors Association, the American Legion, and past commander of Halstead
 American Legion and Harvey County commander. He was a lifetime member 
of V.F.W&nbsp; # 1361, Hutchinson, and a member of 40/8 #324, Hutchinson. 
Governor Mike Hayden granted Gene ‘Honorary Colonel of the Kansas 
Calvary’.

Gene married Evelyn N. Hughes at the United Methodist church in 
Halstead on May 15, 1948. She was a devoted wife and mother and they 
shared 66 years together before her death in 2014.

Following his naval service, Gene worked bridge construction near 
Salina, KS.&nbsp; He received a United States Air Force scroll of 
appreciation in 1954 for an outstanding act of heroism the previous year
 while he was at work.&nbsp; Gene helped rescue airmen from a burning 
fuselage after a United States Air Force B-52 aircraft crashed in a corn
 field near Smoky Hill Air Force Base.

Gene worked ten years in bridge construction and 32 years with Rainbo
 Baking Company, formerly Betts Baking Company. He began as a salesman 
and retired as company president in 1988. Gene was a gentle giant, in 
contrast to the call sign he used on his CB radio, ‘Mean Gene’.&nbsp;

Gene was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson. He was a 32nd
 Degree Master Mason belonging to Hutchinson Reno Lodge 124, a lifetime 
member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Wichita, a past member of 
the Midian Shrine, Wichita, and past president of the Reno County 
Shrine. &nbsp;Gene drove his 1985 white Mustang convertible in parades as a 
Road Runner with the Shriners.&nbsp; The car was purchased by a collector in 
New Zealand (Donald) and Gene maintained a friendship with Donald 
throughout his life.

Gene donated many hours volunteering at the NJCAA men’s basketball 
tournaments, Kansas State Fair, Hutchinson Friends of the Library 
bookstore, and driving veterans to the VA hospital in Wichita. He was a 
hard worker, loyal husband and friend, dedicated father and loving 
grandfather.&nbsp; Gene was proud to be a WWII veteran. Most of all, he was a
 good man.

Gene was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Evelyn; brothers, 
George and Robert; sister, Marjorie Pierce; and best friend and 
companion, Joan Brenneman.

He is survived by: &nbsp;his son, Max Miller (Beth), Hutchinson; 
daughters, Nancy Johnson, Hutchinson, Loretta Blickenstaff (Joel), 
Arizona, and Brenda Miller, Arizona; grandchildren, Kara Johnson, Levi 
Short (Shannon), Joey Short (Kelli), and Radimir Blickenstaff; 
great-grandchildren, BéLynn, Sage, Ethan S., Colby, and Ethan C.; and 
great-grand dogs, Buddy and Walter.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at Elliott
 Mortuary, Hutchinson, with The Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.&nbsp; 
Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor

He was born April 4, 1949, in Hays, the 
son of William and Mary (Lang) Riedel.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Park High 
School.&nbsp; On May 31, 1975, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Billinger 
in Victoria, and they were married nearly 47 years.&nbsp; He worked as a 
custodian and in maintenance at Quinter Hospital, for USD 489 at Lincoln
 Elementary School, and St. John’s Nursing Home.&nbsp; He was a member of St.
 Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his 
family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Jeanne of 
Hays, a son: Aaron Riedel of Camdenton, MO, a daughter: Angie Sack and 
husband Jeff of Hays, two brothers: Leon Riedel and wife Marilyn of 
Salina and Myron Riedel and wife Rhonda of Wilsey, five sisters: Lois 
Albers and husband Charles, Marilyn Augustine and husband Arnie, and 
Elaine Sander and husband Kenny, all of Hays, Jeane Harp and husband Don
 of Council Grove, and Twila Riedel of Hays, two grandchildren: Jacob

 Allan J. Leiker, age 83, of Hays, Kansas died Thursday, April 7, 2022,
 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Services are pending at 
Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

He was born October 28, 1938, in Hays, Kansas to Isadore and Rose 
(Dorzweiler) Leiker.&nbsp; He married Dolores (Jacobs) on August 13, 1960, in
 Hays.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 18, 1990.&nbsp; He then married
 Nancy (Giebler) Weber on January 7, 1994, in Hays.

He worked for Henry Schwaller &amp; Sons as their heating and air 
technician for over 50 years and retired in 2017.&nbsp; Lee Allan grew up in 
Hays and was a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy.&nbsp; He then 
attended the Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning Vo Technical School in
 Tyler, Texas.&nbsp; He was the Lead Singer in the “Original Flippers” music 
group from 1958 through 1961. He was a member of The Basilica of St. 
Fidelis, Victoria.&nbsp; He enjoyed music, western movies, his children, and 
his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Weber-Leiker, of the home; his 
children, Debra Dreiling and husband, James, Gorham, KS; Alan Leiker and
 wife, Jackie, Hays, KS; DeAnn&nbsp; Meyers and husband, Kelvin, Hays, KS; 
Dana Beery and husband, Neal, Cimarron, KS; his nine grandchildren, 
Jessica Klusener (Caleb); Cory Dreiling(Sydney); Alexyss Leiker DDS; 
Darian Leiker; Chelsie Meyers and Coy Johnson; Kylie Unrein (Austin); 
Quentin Rupp; Lane Beery; and McKynlee Beery; seven great grandchildren;

 Allan J. Leiker, age 83, of Hays, Kansas died Thursday, April 7, 2022,
 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Services are pending at 
Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.He was born October 28, 1938, in Hays, Kansas to Isadore and Rose 
(Dorzweiler) Leiker.&nbsp; He married Dolores (Jacobs) on August 13, 1960, in
 Hays.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 18, 1990.&nbsp; He then married
 Nancy (Giebler) Weber on January 7, 1994, in Hays.He worked for Henry Schwaller &amp; Sons as their heating and air 
technician for over 50 years and retired in 2017.&nbsp; Lee Allan grew up in 
Hays and was a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy.&nbsp; He then 
attended the Heating-Ventilation-Air Conditioning Vo Technical School in
 Tyler, Texas.&nbsp; He was the Lead Singer in the “Original Flippers” music 
group from 1958 through 1961. He was a member of The Basilica of St. 
Fidelis, Victoria.&nbsp; He enjoyed music, western movies, his children, and 
his grandchildren.Survivors include his wife, Nancy Weber-Leiker, of the home; his 
children, Debra Dreiling and husband, James, Gorham, KS; Alan Leiker and
 wife, Jackie, Hays, KS; DeAnn&nbsp; Meyers and husband, Kelvin, Hays, KS; 
Dana Beery and husband, Neal, Cimarron, KS; his nine grandchildren, 
Jessica Klusener (Caleb); Cory Dreiling(Sydney); Alexyss Leiker DDS; 
Darian Leiker; Chelsie Meyers and Coy Johnson; Kylie Unrein (Austin); 
Quentin Rupp; Lane Beery; and McKynlee Beery; seven great grandchildren;

Diane Aileen Schlageck, Munjor, Kansas, our beloved sister and friend passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi in Wichita Kansas of a cerebral aneurysm. She was 58 years old.&nbsp; Diane was born November 1, 1963, in Norton, Kansas, the youngest of Donald and Dorothy Stuvick. She attended school in Norton, played in band and developed a life time love of music, especially rock and roll. She also excelled at art and after graduating Norton Community High School she continued on to Fort Hays State University. Diane graduated with a bachelor's degree. She loved the Hays area and continued to live there after graduation. Diane started working in the bar business in college and continued to serve customers and make friends.&nbsp; She worked Dick's in Catharine and later opened Brauny's in Munjor. She built Brauny's into a successful business and the local meeting spot making many good friends along the way. Later Diane worked at Dillions in the deli and the VWF in Hays. Diane worked hard, loved to serve people and always loved and cared for animals. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.&nbsp; Diane is survived by her older brothers, David Stuvick and his wife Rhonda, Garden City, Kansas and Doug Stuvick and his wife Gina, Highlands Ranch, Colorado and her partner Jeff Crawford, Gorham Kansas.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents Donald and Dorothy Stuvick.&nbsp; A celebration of her life will be held at noon Saturday, April 16th, at the VWF&nbsp;2106 Vine St, Hays, KS 67601. Jerald Allen Cubbage, 82, passed away April 4, 2022, at his home, Wichita, Kansas.

He was born December 18, 1939, in Macksville, the son of Ralph and Beulah Park Cubbage.

Jerald was a retired truck driver, jack of all trades and 
well-respected rancher in Texas for many years.&nbsp; For a short time after 
retirement, Jerald and Rhonda resided in Pettus, Texas, where he was the 
director at the community center and an avid domino player.&nbsp; He never 
knew a stranger or ever refused to help anyone with a project.&nbsp; After 
moving back to Kansas in 2011 he was an avid gardener and miniature 
train enthusiast.

He was previously married with three children and after many years he met Rhonda Lee St. Onge; she survives.

Other survivors include; two sons; Billy Cubbage and Michael Cubbage;
 a daughter Tammy Berends, a sister, Virginia Fox Hays and four 
step-children, Tami Weaver, Sam Bratton, Betina Joslin and Joe Bratton; 
twelve grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.

Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at Larned Cemetery, Larned.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Lincoln Baptist Church, 7801 E Lincoln St., Wichita, Kansas.

A memorial Mass and celebration for Helen Hanks will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ness City at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2022.&nbsp; A light brunch will be available following the mass at the Sacred Heart School cafeteria.&nbsp; 

A friends and family gathering for remembrance and burial will be held at the Buda Cemetery in Ness County at noon.&nbsp;

Helen Hanks of Dighton, Kansas, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2022, at the Cedar Village long-term care facility in Ness City, Kansas in the presence of her daughter and daughter-in-law.  The cause of death was cancer-related complications. 

She was born Helen Blanche Prose in the country in Ness County, Kansas on July 1, 1935, daughter of Frank Clarence Prose and Nola V. (Meek) Prose.  Due to the Depression and Dust Bowl, the young family moved to Westwego, Louisiana, where Frank found work in off-shore drilling for the Texas Oil Company.  A sister, Ava Adele, was born in Louisiana in 1938.  The family returned to Kansas in 1950 when Frank’s father, Bert Prose, asked Frank to take over the family farm located south of Beeler, Kansas.

Helen graduated from Ness City High School in 1953 and then attended and graduated from Brown-Mackie Business School.  Upon graduation, she accepted a secretarial position with Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas.  While in Wichita, Helen met and then married Robert F. Metzker of Coldwater, Kansas.  Shortly thereafter the couple relocated to Boulder, Colorado so that Bob could attend the University of Colorado.  Bob was later employed by the National Bureau of Standards in Boulder.  Two children, Rebecca Claire (1957) and Robert Charles (1963) were born during the couple’s stay in Boulder.

With the children out of grade school, Helen worked for the Boulder Valley School District as a secretary and attended classes through the University of Colorado’s College for Women, concentrating on literature, English, and writing.  Later she wrote articles for the Boulder Daily Camera and various other publications.  In 1976, Helen received a certificate in Small Business Management from the Colorado Economic Development Association and Small Business Administration.  After Bob’s retirement from the National Bureau of Standards in 1981, the couple returned to Lane County, Kansas.

Helen cared for her mother, Nola, through the mid-1990s.  In 1996, Helen married E. Joe Hanks, a farmer and rancher in Lane County.  Helen and Joe designed, built, and lived in their dream home just east of Dighton, Kansas where they enjoyed gardening, tending the orchard they had planted, and providing pumpkins for Dighton’s annual “Punkin Patch Day” all while Joe continued his farming and ranching operations.  They enjoyed traveling and even drove to Alaska for their honeymoon.  Joe passed away in August 2021.

Helen is survived by her sister, Ava Adele Hack (Bob), of Springfield Oregon, daughter Rebecca Metzker-Hansen (Brian) of Boulder, Colorado; daughter-in-law Donna Metzker of Ness City, Kansas; granddaughter Erica Prose Hansen (Alex) of Victor, Idaho; grandson Frank Hansen (Erin) of Littleton, Colorado; grandson Gunnar Hansen of Victor, Idaho; grandson Derek Hembree of Long Beach, California; granddaughter Jennifer Howard (Nathan) of Ellis, Kansas; grandson Ryan Hembree (Andrea) of Blanchard, Oklahoma; and four great grandchildren. Preceding Helen in death are her husband E. Joe Hanks, her son Robert C. Metzker, and her first husband Robert F. Metzker.

Leisa Renee Bates, 65, passed away Monday, April 4, 2022, at Park View 
Hospital, in Pueblo, Colorado. She was the daughter of Merle Eldon and 
Leila Rosslyne (Taylor) Pate, and she was born December 7, 1956, in 
Colorado Springs, Colorado. 
Leisa graduated high school from Palmer high in Colorado Springs and 
later graduated from Fort Hays State University with her Bachelor of 
Science. Leisa taught at Washington Elementary School in Liberal, 
Kansas, and then moved to Laporte, Texas and taught at Laporte 
Elementary School for over ten years. Leisa’s last career was educating 
those who got out of prison, helping them obtain their GED. The last 
year of her life was spent fighting cancer. With her sons alongside her,
 she courageously took on all treatments so that she could remain in the
 lives of all her beloved family and friends. 
She is survived by her two sons, Clinton Bates, and Craig Bates, both of
 Pueblo West, CO.; two brothers, John Pate, Katy, TX., and James “Jim” 
Pate and wife Joni, Jasper, TX.; and many other relatives and friends. 
She was preceded by her parents and infant sister, Merle Lee Pate. 
A memorial has been established for the Trinity Baptist Church of 
Hugoton. In the care of Robson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 236, Hugoton, KS 
67951. 
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2022, from 2 PM to 8 PM, at Robson Funeral Home, Hugoton.

Leisa Renee Bates

Linda Darlene Edwards was born October 5, 1950, to Leland J. and Ruth A. (Davies) Edwards.  She passed away on January 2, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS, at the age of 71.

Linda was the fifth of seven children.  She was afflicted with Polio from age two.  This did not stop her from the things she wanted to do.

She was united in marriage to Glen “Ike” Edwards on August 8, 1971, in Downs, KS.  The couple was told that she was unable to have children due to Polio; however, they were blessed with three: Timothy Ryan, Mathew Dean, and Sammie Coleen.  She taught all three how to swim and often said the water was the only place she could keep up with her kids.

She helped Ike coach little league baseball, was in charge of a daycare center, and babysat several kids.

Linda is survived by husband Ike of Phillipsburg; 2 sons Timothy of Phillipsburg and Mathew and wife Wendy of Pleasantville, IA; daughter Sammie Pinkal and husband Kyle of Wilcox, NE; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Kay Henry and husband Jessie of Harrisburg, OH, Bonnie Edwards and husband John of Cawker City, KS, Rita Martin of Downs, KS; 2 sister’s-in-law Margie Stout and husband Keith Gray of Beloit, KS and Glenice Emmett and husband John of Colorado Springs, CO; 3 brother’s-in-law Loren Edwards and wife Ann of Phillipsburg, Dan Edwards also of Phillipsburg, and Samuel Edwards of Prescott, AZ; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16th, 2022 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Scott Eller officiating.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 15th, 2022, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel for visitation.

The couple was told that she was unable to have children due to Polio; however, they were blessed with three: Timothy Ryan, Mathew Dean, and Sammie Coleen. Carol Nurse Vester, 84, died April 2, 2022, after a long battle with 
IPF.&nbsp; She was born January 16, 1938, in rural Barber County, KS, to 
Walter Scott and Ethel (Hunt) Nurse.

Carol attended schools in Barber County and graduated from Oklahoma 
State University (OSU).&nbsp; She was a member of and strong supporter of the
 Alpha Chi Omega sorority at OSU and maintained a close relationship 
with her ‘sisters’.&nbsp; Carol was a school teacher in Stafford and Tribune,
 KS.&nbsp; While living in Reno County, she taught at the Fairfield schools 
and Nickerson Reno Valley school system, before retiring in 2005.&nbsp; Carol
 taught girls’ physical education, health, coached tennis, and retired 
as a librarian and media specialist.&nbsp; She was cherished and loved by 
many of her students and associates during her career in education.

On August 25, 1963, Carol married Richard H. Vester.&nbsp; They would have
 celebrated 59 years of marriage this August.&nbsp; Their son, R. Scott 
Vester, was born January 26, 1969, in Tribune, KS.

Carol and Richard were active members of the Winnebago RV clubs and 
enjoyed the camaraderie of the many lifelong friends made with a 
wonderful variety of people.&nbsp; She especially enjoyed the Winnebago 
caravan to Alaska.

Carol is survived by: &nbsp;her husband of the home; son, Scott of Los 
Angeles, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and of course, her beloved 
students.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; sister, Betty DeMint; and brothers, Marvin M. Nurse and Jack D. Nurse.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Elliott

Lifelong Goodland, KS resident Ronnie Ray Amack, 63, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at his home in Goodland.

Ronnie was born on January 29, 1959, in Goodland, to Bernard and Deana (Waits) Amack.

Ronnie had three children; Anthony, Adam and Amy Amack. He also had 4 grandkids Anna, Jacob, Ronny and Terry.

Ronnie was an over-the-road truck driver for most of his life transporting 
anything and everything he could.&nbsp; He enjoyed spending time with friends
 and family when he was home and always helped people out when he 
could.&nbsp;

Preceding him in death were his parents, and his two sons Anthony and Adam Amack.

He is survived by his daughter Amy Amack of Goodland, Kansas, and his 4 grandchildren.

Ronnie Ray Amack

Beulah “Aloha” (Ashley) Odle passed away on April 5, 2022, at the Rooks 
County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 94. She was 
born on November 11, 1927, to Ralph and Martha (Hicks) Ashley in Logan, 
KS. She married Ernest Lee Odle on July 13, 1946. They were blessed 
with 2 children: Kevin and Marta.
 Aloha grew up in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1945.
 She married Lee while he was in the U.S. Army, and she accompanied him 
to Fort Ord California. Aloha taught school in a small school near Fort
 Ord. After Lee’s discharge they moved to Colorado and later moved to 
Hill City, KS where Aloha enjoyed being a housewife and mother. They 
later moved to Stockton, KS where they owned and operated the Phillips 
66 station and sporting goods store and the Comfort Motel. Aloha also 
juggled the work of motel and station ownership with working part time 
as a dispatcher for Lane Wells Oil Service. In retirement Aloha and her
 husband enjoyed producing a massive garden on their property East of 
Stockton as well as baby sitting her youngest grandson.
 A hard worker all her life, Aloha lived simply and frugally. Her 
strength and perseverance were evident as she lived independently in her
 home until the latter part of 2021. Her greatest loves were her 
grandchildren and great-granddaughter. She was a proud grandparent and 
had great passion for their sports activities. She will be greatly 
missed by all who knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories
 will never be forgotten. For to each one of us who had the privilege 
of knowing and loving her, she leaves a legacy of true kindness, deep 
caring, and devoted love.
 Aloha is survived by her daughter, Marta Johnston of Stockton, KS; 
brother, Ronald Ashley of Oklahoma City, OK; sister-in-law, Pat Ashley 
of Oklahoma City, OK; two grandchildren, Corey and Tyler Johnston; and 
one great-granddaughter, Ericka Johnston.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Martha Ashley; 
husband, Lee Odle; son, Kevin Odle; son-in-law, Kent Johnston; and

Carol Ann (Walters) Rupp,&nbsp;age 78, of Winfield, Kansas&nbsp;peacefully&nbsp;passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022,&nbsp;after&nbsp;experiencing&nbsp;a stroke.

Carol was born on January 12, 1944, in Hays, Kansas&nbsp;to Celestina&nbsp;(Hertel)&nbsp;Walters&nbsp;and Fidelis A. Walters.&nbsp;She graduated&nbsp;with&nbsp;the first graduating class at&nbsp;Marian High School&nbsp;in 1962,&nbsp;then attended Fort Hays State University, earning a Bachelor of Science&nbsp;in&nbsp;Speech Therapy&nbsp;in 1966.

She married Roger Rupp on May&nbsp;22,&nbsp;1965,&nbsp;in Hays and later that year moved to Kansas City so that Roger could attend the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Dentistry.&nbsp;While in Kansas City,&nbsp;Carol was a&nbsp;speech therapist&nbsp;for the Kansas City, Kansas Public School System.&nbsp;Roger was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Naval Reserve and the family moved to Camp Pendleton, California for a two-year assignment. In June of 1971 the family moved to Winfield.&nbsp;&nbsp;In&nbsp;Winfield,&nbsp;Carol&nbsp;was&nbsp;a&nbsp;Realtor&nbsp;for Buterbaugh&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Handlin&nbsp;Real Estate&nbsp;for many years.&nbsp;After retiring, she enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Carol was an avid tennis player winning many tournaments at Roger’s dental conventions.&nbsp;She enjoyed watching&nbsp;“Monk”&nbsp;reruns on television and was a number one fan of Neil Diamond, attending&nbsp;many of his concerts.&nbsp;Friends and family will always think of her when they hear&nbsp;a&nbsp;Neil Diamond song,&nbsp;especially&nbsp;“Sweet Carol-ine”.&nbsp;&nbsp;She showed amazing&nbsp;generosity&nbsp;to her family and friends&nbsp;and&nbsp;was locally famous for her homemade caramel corn&nbsp;and poppy seed bread.

She is survived by her four daughters, Amy Soto and husband Robert, Winfield,&nbsp;KS,&nbsp;Lisa Bailey, Smithville, MO, Suzanne Rupp, Winfield, KS, and Sarah Underhill and husband Chad, Goddard, KS;&nbsp;her sister Iris&nbsp;Lang, Victoria, KS; her brother Richard&nbsp;Walters,&nbsp;Grand Prairie, TX,&nbsp;nine&nbsp;grandchildren&nbsp;(Dan Whitaker, Jessica Soto, Anthony Soto, Lucas and Avery Underhill,&nbsp;William and Lillian Bailey,&nbsp;Michael&nbsp;and Henry&nbsp;Granoski), and one great-granddaughter&nbsp;Dravyn Carson.&nbsp;In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Rupp and&nbsp;two sisters,&nbsp;Erma&nbsp;Verhage&nbsp;and Lucida&nbsp;Sullivan.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents Gregory Rupp and Caroline Leiker, brother Maurice Korbe, daughter Tamara Rupp, and grandchildren David and Darla LeClaire.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years Dorothy Rupp; Rodney’s son Brian Rupp (Tina); grandchildren, Sarah Rupp Ferguson (Erik), Rachel, and Matthew Rupp; great grandchildren Brandon and Emery Ferguson. Rodney’s daughter Melissa LeClaire. grandchildren Amanda and Brandi LeClaire. great grandchildren Donavan LeClaire, Damien, Dominik, and Karizma Pacheo, Jasmine LeClaire, and Elias Urbina; two stepchildren Scott and Jenny Healey, children of Dottie; sisters, Marlene Rupp-Sooby, Marion Beckerle and brothers, Frank Rupp and Leon Rupp.

 Rodney loved his family. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping. “The Cabin” where he had been building his paradise for his golden years. Skiing was his passion and family traditions with his Grandkids. Rodney’s family described him as very generous, loving, kind, considerate, and thoughtful. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard J. Bogner, 84, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at The Ranch House 
in Garden City, Kansas. He was born December 9, 1937, in Scott City, 
Kansas the son of Jacob &amp; Agnes (Droste) Bogner. 
 Richard moved with his family to Wright, Kansas where he attended 
elementary and grade school. He then attended and graduated from high 
school at St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City. Richard then earned a 
football scholarship to play at Hutchinson Junior College. After 
graduating from Hutchinson, Richard served in the Army National Guard. 
On June 10, 1961, he married Karen Reimer in Ingalls, Kansas. They 
lived in Dodge City until 1971, when they moved to Garden City. They 
have lived in Garden City since. After moving to Garden City Richard 
worked as owner and operator of Buffalo Industries and Supreme 
Management, and since 1981 has been owner and operator of Bogner Oil 
Field Services. 
 Richard was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City 
and the Knights of Columbus #2795. He enjoyed sports, playing golf, 
playing cards, dancing, and he especially loved to take care of his 
family. 
 Survivors include his wife Karen Bogner of the home; three children
 Charlene Bigley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Jake &amp; wife Sally 
Bogner of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Paul &amp; wife Stephanie Bogner of 
Garden City, Kansas; a brother David &amp; wife Janice Bogner of Wright,
 Kansas; three sisters Pauline Kristek of Salina, Kansas, Phyllis Hauver
 of Naponee, Nebraska, and Agnes &amp; husband Tom Walsh of Topeka, 
Kansas; five grandchildren Jennifer &amp; husband Brandon Kornele, Tara 
Jones, Kristen Morgan, Kimberly &amp; husband Ryan Harp, &amp; Jeffery 
Bogner; a Step-grandson Jason Bigley; eight great-grandchildren; and one
 step great-grandchild. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; 2

Bonnie J. Fox, 91, died on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at Lane County 
Hospital in Dighton. She was born on July 15, 1930 at Great Bend the 
daughter of Henry Corneleus &amp; Edith Mae (Seibert) Schroth. She 
married Robert H. Fox on July 18, 1948 at Hugoton. He died on July 20, 
2019. 
Bonnie attended schools in Macksville and St. John before moving to 
Hugoton and graduating from Hugoton High School. She and her husband 
moved to Dighton in 1951. She and her husband operated Fox Jewelry 
Store and then she started working at the Dighton Post Office and she 
retired as the Postmaster. After retiring she helped her husband in the
 Crop Insurance business. She was a member of the United Methodist 
Church and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading and playing bingo. 
She is survived by her 3 Daughters- Karen &amp; Don Wilson of Overland 
Park, Penny &amp; Harold Hallmark of Garden City and Shari Speer of 
Topeka, 14 Grandchildren and 18 Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in
 death by her Parents, Husband, Step-Father- Millard C. Beaver, 
Daughter- Sheila Fox, Son-In-Law- Russel Speer and 2

Jason C. May, 54, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022, at his home of 
natural causes. He was born on April 6, 1967, in El Dorado to Chester 
Leon May and Vicky Ann (Tjaden) Waldschmidt. Jason married Debora Sue 
(McManigal) May on July 17, 1993, in Hays, Kansas. They were married for 
28 years. Jason graduated from Colby High School in 1985. He 
earned his Associate Degree from Colby Community College, Bachelors 
degree from Fort Hays State University and his Masters Degree from 
Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He worked as a middle school 
science and math teacher, wrestling, football and golf coach and 
principal at Haskins Elementary and Southwest Elementary for Pratt USD 
382 since 1995. He earned awards as Elementary School Principal of the 
Year and Middle School Coach of the Year. He was a member of First 
United Methodist Church, previous Kiwanis Member and past President of 
Kansas Association of Elementary School Principals. He enjoyed music, 
especially U2, movies, nonfiction, lifelong loyal Minnesota Vikings fan,
 being a Greenback and announcing the football games and other 
activities, being a dad and spending time with his family. He 
is survived by his wife, Deb; children, Hayden (Arella) May of Pratt, 
Grant May of Lawrence and Grace May of Pratt; granddaughter, Wren May; 
sister, Crystal (Lea) Firestone of Wichita; brother, Brett May of 
Wichita; stepmother, Myrna May of Wichita; sisters in-law, Jolene 
McManigal of Louisburg and Sherri May of Clearwater; and many nieces, 
nephews and other relatives. Jason is preceded in death by his
 father, Chester May; mother, Vicky (Tom) Waldschmidt; brother, Todd

Metta “Nadine” (Jones) Bair passed away on April 5, 2022, at the Rooks 
County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas at the age of 90. Nadine was 
born on September 26, 1931, to James and Ione (Yohe) Jones in 
Plainville. She was united in marriage to George Bair on December 28, 
1950, at the First Christian Church in Plainville. The couple was 
blessed with four daughters: Linda, Connie, Diane, and Gerri.
 Nadine grew up in Plainville where she attended Plainville High 
School and graduated with the class of 1949 as Salutatorian of her 
class. She worked several jobs throughout her life but started with AL 
Burkholder doing income taxes. When her husband, George passed away she 
maintained her tax job out of the home but went to work for KN Energy 
which later became Midwest Energy. Nadine retired but stayed involved 
with her work as the First Christian Church treasurer and volunteering 
at the Rooks County Hospital Gift Shop and held the treasurer position 
for the RCH Auxiliary. She loved planting and working her garden, 
canning and making homemade salsas and jelly. Nadine’s free time was 
spent crocheting last name doilies, baby blankets, afghans and 
tablecloths.
 Nadine is survived by her daughters, Linda (Bob) Rogers of 
Burlington, CO, Connie (Allen) Rempe of Plainville, Gerri (Danny) 
Meitler of Plainville; siblings, Eileen Lane of McHenry, IL, Kenneth 
Jones of Brush, CO; son-in-law, Lynn Nutsch of Enid, OK; eight 
grandchildren, Michael, Jody, Angie, Aaron, Ryan, Danielle, Tiffany, 
Kristen; and eleven great-grandchildren with one on the way, Gavin, 
Grady, Garrett, Jack, Jaxon, John Paul, Eldon, Ela, Kate, Lydia, &amp;

Abby was born on August 7, 1994, in Oberlin, Kansas, to David and 
Victoria (Ritter) Bainter, and passed away on March 31, 2022. The family
 lived in Clayton, Kansas, during Abby’s early years and moved to Norton,
 Kansas when she started 3rd grade, where she graduated with the Norton 
High School Class of 2012. Abby worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant 
(CNA) while in high school and after graduating. She was exceptionally 
good at that job because she had such a caring heart. She especially 
enjoyed working with the elderly. Abby attended and graduated from the 
Hays Hair Academy in 2021. 
 Abby was a free spirit who had a very giving heart. She was always 
seeing the best in others and was a real champion for the underdog. Abby
 was a defender of those who could not defend themselves. She was the 
type of person who could talk to anyone and have made a friend. She 
loved nature and going on hikes with her dog, Vegas, who was her best 
friend. Abby also enjoyed art and creating paintings. In high school, 
Abby was an athlete and enjoyed cross country and softball. Abby could 
be stubborn, but she was a very compassionate individual. She loved her 
family, her nieces and nephews, and her dog Vegas, and they all hold a 
special place in her heart. 
 Abby is survived by her parents, David and Vicki Bainter of Norton, 
Kansas; brothers, Zachary Bainter (Jessica) of Dresden, Kansas, Troy

and Aryn; eight nieces and nephews; maternal grandparents Randy and 
Donna St. Aubyn; paternal grandfather Naeem Khan, paternal bonus 
grandfather Benjamin Knight and wife Joni Miller; an uncle Travis St.

Stanley Wilber, 88, of Leavenworth, died Sunday, March 27, 2022. He was 
born May 2, 1933, in Weston, Mo., to Philanthropy and Lena (Large) 
Wilber. 
On Aug. 9, 1952, Stanley married Helen Thomas in Leavenworth, Kan. She 
preceded him in death March 25, 2005. Stanley later married Wilma Cook 
in June 2006, she preceded him in death in January 2020. He was also 
preceded in death by his parents. 
Stanley is survived by four daughters, Sandra Becker and Susan Collins 
both of Leavenworth, Sheryl Parker of DeSoto, Kan., and Sindy (Rick) 
Page of Leavenworth; four step-children, Rick Howard of Raymore, Mo., 
Randy (Sherry) Howard of Nesbit, Miss., Russell Howard of Kansas City, 
Mo., and Kim (Rob) Perez of Hays, Kan.; a brother, Clarence of 
Leavenworth; a sister, Bonnie Ruebhausen of Leavenworth; eight 
grandchildren, Chris Wood Sr., Andrew Thompson, Nathan Walters, 
Matthew Thompson, Tamara Bryant, Alyssa Walters, Meghan Tilson and 
Kendra Walters; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild 
on the way. 
He enjoyed fishing, photography and playing guitar. Stanley will be greatly missed by his family. 
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2022, at the 
R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens
