Pat Criss, of Colby, Thomas County, Kansas, passed from this life at her
 home on September 23, 2022, at the age of 85. Pat was born at Goodland,
 Kansas, to Alfred H. “Cotton” Stover and Fontella Mae (Perry) Stover on
 November 8, 1936, as Helen Patricia Stover. A few years later, Pat was 
joined by her sister, Kayla Sue Hawk Plume (d.2000). 
Pat grew up on the Stover family farm north of Winona, Kansas, and 
attended Winona High School in Winona. After graduation, she attended 
Kansas State University where she studied accounting, graduating cum 
laude with her Bachelors’ Degree in 1956. While at K-State she met and 
fell for her husband, B. Eugene Criss, whom she married in 1956. To this
 marriage, Pat and Gene welcomed a daughter, Nancy Lynne, and a son, 
Terry Dwayne. 
Pat and Gene worked together in Gene’s accounting practice in Colby and 
continued to do so after Gene sold the practice to Kennedy &amp; Coe, 
CPAs. Together they enjoyed weekends with friends at Lake Swanson, near 
Trenton, Nebraska, golf, bowling, travelling and Kansas State sports. 
They had a vacation home in Pagosa Springs, Colorado for many years. 
They were married for 54 years, until Gene’s death in 2010. 
Pat enjoyed golf and travelled around northwest Kansas playing in local 
tournaments with her friends. She played piano for many years. But 
undoubtedly, her most passionate interest was bridge. She was an intense
 player and competed for several years in tournaments throughout a 
multi-state region, eventually attaining status as a Gold Life Master in
 the American Contract Bridge Association. Pat was also active in 
community affairs and was an avid supporter of the Pickin’ on the Plains
 Bluegrass Festival, Prairie Museum of Art and History, and Colby 
Community College among others. Always a Wildcat, Pat generously 
contributed to scholarship funds at Kansas State University. She was a 
member of Pi Gamma Sorority and Colby Women’s League. 
Pat survived bouts with cancer in 1981 and 1998 before finally 
succumbing. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Selinger (Doug) of 
Colorado Springs, Colorado, and their children Gregory, of Denver, and 
Christina, of Fort Collins, Colorado and her son, Terry (Patty) of Kemp,
 Texas and his children Marie, of St. Charles, Missouri and Blaine, of 
The Colony, Texas. 
Services will be held at the Colby United Methodist Church on October 7,
 2022, at 10:00 am, followed by a lunch at The Gathering Place.

Pat Criss

Neil Andrew Marshall was born on December 21, 1930, to Lawrence Henry
 Marshall &amp; Gladys (Penn) Marshall at the Benton Memorial Hospital 
in Oberlin, KS.  He passed away at Decatur Health Systems Hospital in 
Oberlin, KS in the early morning of September 28, 2022, at the age of 91
 years old.

Neil attended Liberty Township Country School, 
completing the 10th Grade. He grew up on the farm of Andrew Penn in 
Liberty Township through the '30s up to 1945. He and his brothers moved 
to Lincoln, NE where they worked at a bowling alley setting pins. He 
then went to Wyoming where he worked as a Lumber Jack till, he was 
drafted by the United States Army on September 9, 1952, sent to Korea, 
and was assigned to C Company 10th Field Artillery Battalion, 8th Army. 
 He served until September 9, 1954, as a forward observer and at a POW 
recovery camp.  He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze 
Stars, United Nations Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the 
National Defense Service Medal. He returned to Oberlin and began work 
with Leo and Opal Harman raising Greyhounds and farming.

On 
November 26, 1957, he married Barbara Kay Olmsted of Oberlin in Denver, 
CO. They made their home in Kanona, KS for a time, then moved to North 
Platte, NE where he was house painter.  They returned to Oberlin in 1962
 where they made their home. He worked as a custodian at Decatur 
Community High School for many years before finally retiring. They had 3
 sons, Tracy, Troy and Lamoine (stillborn).  They were happily married 
for nearly 31 years, till Barbara passed away just 21 days before their 
anniversary in 1988.

He loved to garden and put models together.  
Building ship models was a favorite hobby and he enjoyed giving them to 
family and friends.  One ship he made was a replica of the ship that his
 family came to America on.  He then turned his interest to oil painting
 and was quite talented.  He shared his paintings with family, friends, 
and places around town.  He loved his family and looked forward to 
seeing them whenever he could.  He had a great love of the Lord and read
 and studied his Bible daily.

He attended St. John’s Lutheran 
Church till he began attending the Oberlin Covenant Church in the '90s 
where he was very actively involved until mobility became challenging.

He
 was a gentleman and capable of accomplishing anything he set his mind 
to.  He continued to live in their house on the hill after the passing 
of his wife until he opted for less to care for and moved to the Goltl 
apartments for a few years prior to a move to Wheatridge in 2021, then 
to the Good Samaritan Home in 2022.  The family is so grateful to all of
 those who cared for him during those years.

He was preceded in 
death by his parents, Lawrence &amp; Gladys; his wife, Barbara; and 
infant son, Lamoine, as well as his three brothers, James (Jim) 
Marshall, Ronald Marshall, and Jerry Marshall

Survivors include 
his two sons and their wives: Tracy and Leigh Marshall of Waco, TX; Troy
 and Debra Marshall of Norcatur, KS. Five Grandchildren and their 
spouses: Matthew Marshall, Waco, TX; Austin and Joy Marshall of Lincoln,
 NE; Andrea and Adam Spanier of Kearney, NE; Anthony Marshall, Wichita 
KS; Amanda and Lucas Coryell of Oberlin, KS.  Seven Great Grandchildren:
 Evelyn and Tucker Spanier of Kearney, NE; Wyatt, Coulter, Adelia and 
Lydia Coryell of Oberlin, KS.  He is survived by numerous nieces, 
nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and 
nephews, and numerous friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, 
October 1, 2022 at Oberlin Covenant Church at 2:00 PM.  Visitation will 
be from 12:00 – 7:00 PM with family receiving guest from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
  Burial will be in Oberlin Cemetery next to his wife Barbara.

Neil Andrew Marshall 

Charles Roscoe “Charlie” Townsend, 92, died Sunday, September 25, 
2022, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born March 25, 1930, in Grinnell, Kansas,&nbsp; to John “Matt” and Apalona “Lona” (Fischer) Townsend.

He married Lorene Boden in Downs, Kansas, and together they created
 a beautiful life and family. The love of their lives were their three 
children, six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Charles worked for the City of Beloit before retiring in 1995.

A lifelong learner, Charles was interested in everything from 
history and geography, to science and philosophy, his inquisitive mind 
knew no bounds. An avid reader, he always had a book in his hand. It 
could be a classic novel, a western, a collection of poetry, or any 
source that could add to his wealth of knowledge.

Charles loved the outdoors and saw beauty all around. Gardening 
was a passion, and tending to his vegetables and flowers brought him 
great joy. Other hobbies included woodworking, solving crossword 
puzzles, and watching Jeopardy every day.

Charles loved people and could carry on a conversation with 
anyone. His wonderful sense of humor and witty personality brought a 
smile to all.

Survivors include his wife Lorene of Beloit; son, Steve (Susan) 
Townsend of Cheney, Kansas; daughters, Jane Cale of St. Charles, 
Missouri and Judy (Dennis) Sander of Liberal, Kansas; his six 
grandchildren, Jason (Mariah) Townsend, Matt Townsend, Jared Cale, Jami 
(Aaron) Defenbaugh, Melissa (Sandon) Hilditch, and Madelyn Sander; nine 
great-grandchildren; and his sister, Marie (Dale) Suter of Oakley, 
Kansas.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob (Ruth) and Bill (Veda) Townsend, and son-in-law James Cale.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Friday, September 30, at the 
Roberts Family Funeral Home. A rosary service will be at 7 PM Thursday, 
&amp; visitation will be from 1 PM until the rosary service begins at 
the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the St. 
Jude's Children's Hospital.

Regan Laine Lewis

Carol A. Stewart was called home on September 22, 
2022, in Salina, KS. She was born on December 24, 1950, in Beloit, Kansas, to Clare and June Nelson. The family later settled in Denver, Colorado. 
Carol remained in Denver until 2015 when she moved to Salina.

During her work life, she had several jobs that she always excelled 
at. These included a Deputy Sheriff, Secretary, and ultimately worked 
for the State of Colorado for 40 years.

Carol loved the ocean and anything to do with it. Her home décor 
included shells, paintings, books and much more that showed her love for
 the sea. She loved music and dancing. Her favorite band was Pink Floyd 
and it was often heard playing in her car or home. She had a wonderful 
sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was also famous among her family 
for sending cards. No matter the occasion, everyone could expect a card 
from her that let them know she was thinking of them. She was a very 
giving and caring woman that touched the life of anyone she met. She had
 many lifelong friends that were more like family.

She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her 
happiest moments were spending time with her family. Carol’s favorite 
holiday was Christmas because that is when family all gathered and it 
made her heart happy. She got the most joy at Christmas eve when her 
birthday was celebrated with family.

Carol will be dearly missed by anyone she ever met. She had several close friends at her last residence that she spoke of often.

She was preceded in passing by her parents. She is survived by one 
sister, Nona Van Winkle (Wilbur) Colorado, two brothers, Clint Nelson 
(Pat), Colorado and Ray Nelson (Susan) Wisconsin, one son Scott Sitton 
(Layne) Kansas, one daughter, Shareen Knowles (Lima) Colorado, five 
granddaughters, Kayla Sitton, Kansas, Taylor Sitton, Kansas, Haylie 
Werner (Austin), Kansas, Brianna Lima, Colorado, Kamryn Sitton, Kansas, 
two grandsons Sterling Lima, Colorado, Bronx Sitton, Kansas and 5 great 
grandchildren, Tatum, Isabella, Nora, Aujzia, Wren.

There will be a celebration of life at her request at a date to be 
determined. We will miss her greatly here, but we know that she has 
rejoined other loved ones that have been called home before her.

Carol A. (Nelson) Stewart

Carol Diane Harding, age 75, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away 
peacefully on September 27, 2022, at Ascension Via Christ St. Francis 
Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas surrounded by her loving family.&nbsp; 
Carol was born on December 9, 1946, to Floyd and Dema (Delaney) Griffin 
of Fredonia and Sedgwick, Kansas.&nbsp; 

She graduated from Fredonia High 
School at Fredonia in 1962, and was united in marriage to John Richard 
Harding on April 30, 1965, at Independence, Kansas.&nbsp; The couple lived in 
Wichita, Fredonia, San Francisco, California, Pensacola, Florida, Long 
Beach California, Houston, Texas, back to Wichita, and Salina before 
moving to Great Bend in 1974.&nbsp; Carol was primarily a homemaker, but was 
employed at Superior Essex in Hoisington for 3 years, for the Great Bend
 Public Library in the Talking Books Program for 9 years, and for 
Nutrisystem for 3 years.&nbsp; She loved to cook and collecting recipe 
cookbooks, loved shopping, and was an avid reader of suspense novels.

Carol is survived by her husband John Richard Harding of Great Bend; 
two daughters:&nbsp; Carla King of Moberly, Missouri and Cara (&amp; Carl) 
Harding of Mary Ester, Florida; five grandchildren:&nbsp; Maegan (&amp; 
Kimon), Bryna, Kyler, Lydia (&amp; Jake), and Lily and one 
great-grandson, Milo; two sisters:&nbsp; Mary (&amp; Don) Reser of Topeka and

Carol was born on December 9, 1946, to Floyd and Dema (Delaney) Griffin 
of Fredonia and Sedgwick, Kansas.&nbsp; She graduated from Fredonia High 
School at Fredonia in 1962, and was united in marriage to John Richard 
Harding on April 30, 1965, at Independence, Kansas.&nbsp; The couple lived in 
Wichita, Fredonia, San Francisco, California, Pensacola, Florida, Long 
Beach California, Houston, Texas, back to Wichita, and Salina before 
moving to Great Bend in 1974.&nbsp; Carol was primarily a homemaker, but was 
employed at Superior Essex in Hoisington for 3 years, for the Great Bend
 Public Library in the Talking Books Program for 9 years, and for 
Nutrisystem for 3 years.&nbsp; She loved to cook and collecting recipe 
cookbooks, loved shopping, and was an avid reader of suspense novels.Carol is survived by her husband John Richard Harding of Great Bend; 
two daughters:&nbsp; Carla King of Moberly, Missouri and Cara (&amp; Carl) 
Harding of Mary Ester, Florida; five grandchildren:&nbsp; Maegan (&amp; 
Kimon), Bryna, Kyler, Lydia (&amp; Jake), and Lily and one 
great-grandson, Milo; two sisters:&nbsp; Mary (&amp; Don) Reser of Topeka and
 Barbara Griffin of Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by

Grace Anderson, 71, passed away on Monday, 
September 19, 2022, at her home in Biloxi, Mississippi.&nbsp; She was born in
 Washington D.C. and lived in Kansas from 1982 until she moved to 
Biloxi, Mississippi in 2016.&nbsp; 

She is survived by her husband of 50 years
 Robert A. Anderson Sr.; daughter Jennifer Anderson and grandsons 
Braydon Dyer, Ashton Dyer and granddaughter Kennedy Grace Dyer of 
Manhattan, Kansas; son Donald Anderson (Megan) and granddaughters Gracie
 and Olivia of Ellinwood, Kansas, and son Robert Anderson Jr. (Abby) of
 Hays, Kansas.

She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America and a member 
of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a retired 
employee of the Ellinwood Kansas Grade School and devoted a lot of her 
life to helping feed the homeless and assisting others in need in Kansas
 and Mississippi.

Services will be October 15, 2022, at the Waveland United Methodist 
Church, 314 Vacation Lane, Waveland, Mississippi at 11:00 O’clock am, 
followed by a Celebration of Life Luncheon at 12:00 O’clock pm at the 
Church.

Howard Myron Hayward Jr., 74, passed away September 26, 2022, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend.

He was born October 26, 1947, in San Diego, California, the son of Howard Myron and Laura Jean Rogers Hayward Sr.

Moving from El Cajon, California, he was a longtime area resident. He
 was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Lattar Day Saints, Great 
Bend Ward. He liked to build model cars, do mechanic work on cars and 
spend time with his kids and grandkids. He loved being a grandpa and 
great grandpa.

On March 22, 1967, he married Dora Jeanne Prince at La Mesa, California; she survives.

Other survivors include: four daughters, Rebecca Hayward, St. George,
 Utah, Tamara (Josh) Williams, Menefee, California, Michelle (Randy) 
Bethel, Pawnee Rock, Linda Reyes, Great Bend; son, Howard “Ronnie” 
Hayward III, Ocala, Florida; four sisters, Linda Hill, Clinton, 
Missouri, Deborah (Barry) Lovelace, Arkansas, Donna (Dan) Hatch, 
Hurricane, Utah, Ada Farnesworth, Central Utah; Step Sister, Maureen 
Armstrong, Flint, Michigan; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great 
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents Howard Myron Hayward Sr and 
Laura Jean Miller, step dad, Edward Miller; step mother, Irene Hayward; 
daughter, Kimberly Hayward; and a brother, Michael Hayward.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

Marianne Eloise Porter, age 77, passed 
away on September 15, 2022, at the Wichita County Health Center in 
Leoti, Kansas. She was born on June 5, 1945, to Burdett and Gladys Marie
 (Griffith) Patton. She was a resident of the community since 1966 
having moved here from Scott City, Kansas. She was a Telephone operator,
 CNA for 10 years, and a small business owner.

On July 4, 1965, Marianne married her husband, Roger Porter at a 
ceremony at her Grandmother's house in Scott City, Kansas. He survives.

Marianne loved the outdoors. She loved to fish and play in the 
garden. She was a multigenerational mother, sharing her wisdom with 
generations of her family.

Marianne is survived by her husband, her sons Robert Porter &amp; 
Malinda Kent of Holyoke, Colorado, Todd &amp; Mary Beth Porter of Leoti,
 Kansas, Brent &amp; Janee Porter of Leoti, Kansas, Jaiden Porter of 
Leoti, Kansas, and her daughter McKenzie Porter of Leoti, Kansas, six 
grandchildren: April Burrel, Nathan &amp; Amber Porter, Bryer &amp; 
Stacy Porter, Tristen Porter, Jentri Porter, Beau Porter, five

Lenore Goetz, 96, Hays, died Monday, September 26, 2022, at Downs Care and Rehab.

She was born November 28, 1925, in 
Robinson, Illinois, the daughter of Roy and Ica Mae (Roe) Watts.&nbsp; She 
was a graduate of Russell High School and earned a business degree from 
Brown Mackie College.&nbsp; For more than 50 years, Lenore enjoyed and was 
devoted to her career as office manager and bookkeeper for Bill Aubel.&nbsp; 
On November 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Elmer C. Goetz at St. 
Joseph Church in Hays, and they celebrated nearly 62 years of marriage 
before he preceded her in death on July 23, 2010.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Her memberships 
included Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a 50-year member of 
the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, Hays VFW Auxiliary, and Beta 
Sigma Phi.&nbsp; Lenore enjoyed doing crossword and word search puzzles, 
possessed a strong faith, and loved her family and friends.

Survivors include her daughter: Cathy 
Goetz of Hays, two sisters: Louise Szeles of Indianapolis, IN and 
Berniece Buchanan of Lawrenceville, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Elmer, a son: John Goetz, one brother: Eugene Watts, 
and two sisters: Mary Ethel Thompson and Dorothy Lance.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at

Logan resident Hazel M. Pflieger passed away on Monday, Sept. 26, 
2022, at the Brookdale Senior Living Facility in Hays, KS at the age of 
87.

She was born May 23, 1935, in Logan, Kansas, the daughter of Earl and 
Alpha (Wallgren) McCue.&nbsp; She was an Elementary School Teacher.

Hazel was united in marriage to Maynard Pflieger on July 29, 1977, in Logan.&nbsp; He passed away on November 24, 2008.

Survivors include her daughter Faye Miller of Hays, KS; grandson Colton Miller of Hays; and sister Betty Cadoret of Stockton.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, in the
 Logan Christian Church, Logan, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman 
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

Mrs. Pflieger will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and

Evelyn G. Mankhey was born January 4, 1938, the youngest child of 
Henry and Daisy Post Tuxhorn in Smith Center, KS.  Evelyn passed away 
Saturday, September 24, 2022, in Smith Center, KS.  She attended rural 
schools in Smith County until her family moved to Smith Center where she
 finished through high school. 

 During her high school days, she 
developed a love of roller skating.  She attended a professional skating
 school in Greeley, Colorado and she worked at the skating rink in Smith
 Center for Mr. &amp; Mrs. Kenny Castle.

After graduating from 
high school, she became a legal secretary for Relihan Law Office in 
Smith Center.  It was during this time that she met and married Jerome 
Mankhey.  They were blessed with 3 children, Rod, Pam and Kim.  She and 
the children traveled with Jerome to many states where he was stationed 
in the military.

In 1970 they bought a home and moved to Smith 
Center where they lived until Jerome’s death in 2000.  During this time 
she worked at Casey’s and then at the Style Shop until it closed.  At 
that time Evelyn retired from public work.  Evelyn was a Sunday School 
teacher for many years and loved the little children.

Evelyn 
renewed friendship with a high school sweetheart, Art Woodcock and they 
have enjoyed the rest of their lives together playing golf and doing 
yard work.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents;  husband 
Jerome;   brothers Delmer Lee, Leo and Waldean “Pooch” Tuxhorn;   
sisters Roma Fristoe and Rachel Favinger;   sisters in law Lila &amp; 
Leveda Tuxhorn;  brother in law Leonard Favinger.

Surviving are

James “Corky” Lyle Stout Jr., 62, passed away September 25, 2022, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

He was born March 23, 1960, in Valentine, Nebraska, the son of James Lyle Stout Sr. and Rosella Marie Paxton Sydow.

Moving from Nebraska, he was a Larned resident since 1986. He was a 
plumber for M&amp;F Plumbing, Larned, and later worked for David Woods 
Hay Company. He was a member of Fort Larned Lions Club, coached rec 
sports, and enjoyed model railroad trains, building things, fixing 
things and was a true handyman.

On November 9, 2012, he married Sonja Froetschner in Larned.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include; three sons, Charles “Chucky” Stout, Eldon 
Stout and Jonathon Turner, all of Larned; three daughters, Jamie (Bill) 
Huff, Bucklin, Tasha Stout and Katherine (Ry) Roth, both of Larned; a 
sister, Donna Decostes, Chadron, Nebraska; sixteen grandchildren and 
numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who he all 
loved like his own.

He was preceded in death by; a son, Patrick Gilpin, two sisters, 
Anita Spencer and Susan Whitten and a daughter-in-law, Elisa Thomas.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30th,&nbsp; at the Larned Cemetery with Bishop Mark Cowell presiding. The family

Elma R. “Beanie” Fiser, the daughter of B. E. (Bud) Dresslar and Vera
 (Nesmith) Dresslar, was born August 16, 1934, in Mankato, Kansas, and 
passed away on September 22, 2022, at Bryan Medical Center West, Lincoln,
 NE at the age of 88 years, 1 month, and 6 days.

Beanie attended 
the local public schools, graduating from Belleville High School. On 
September 16, 1954, she was united in marriage to Robert D. Fiser and to
 this union were born Deborah and Frank.

Beanie worked for Scott 
Specialties’ for many years and later, along with her husband, operated 
Holiday Floral in Belleville, KS from 1984 until 1988. They moved to 
Cuba, KS in 2008 and Beanie later moved to Belleville, KS in May of 
2018.

Beanie was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, 
Belleville, KS and was a quilter at both the Cuba and Belleville 
Presbyterian Churches.&nbsp; For the past five years, she has been making 
quilts for Connor’s Cuddles. Beanie also enjoyed her coffee group at the
 Feathered Nest and spending time with her grandchildren and great 
grandchildren. She also was an avid sports fan and loved watching her 
Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, and Royals play.

She was preceded in
 death by her parents B.E. (Bud) and Vera Dresslar;&nbsp; her husband Robert 
D. Fiser in 2009; sister Barbara (Bobbie) Taylor; brother Ed Dresslar.

Betty Jean Perez, 96, passed away September 25, 2022, at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born October 31, 1925, in Northview, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas Vernon and Eva Louvernia Stogsdill Young.

A Larned resident since 1938, she was a homemaker and bookkeeper at 
Perez Body Shop. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 
Larned, and enjoyed going to painting bees’ group, crafts, gardening, 
cooking for her grandchildren, raising chickens and other animals, 
especially her dog, Cruz.

On April 16, 1945, she married Raymond G. Perez in Wichita; he survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Phillip (Susan) Perez, Larned, 
Jeffrey Perez, Larned; two daughters, Ramona (Rusty) Howard, Larned, 
Lori Perez (Scott Schartz), Larned; brother, Dean Young, Glendale, 
Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Lola Perez and Ann Perez, both of Larned; 
seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Glenn Young, Wayne Smith; and a grandson, Matthew Howard.

Betty Jean Perez

Christiane Wade Luehrs, 81, passed away
 quietly in her sleep at her home on July 14, 2022. She was born 
September 30, 1940, to Reynolds W. Wade, M.D., and Theodora Pomeranz 
Wade in Toledo, Ohio, and grew up near the shores of the Great Lakes. 
She graduated from Valparaiso University, earned a Master's Degree in 
History from Washington University in St. Louis, and received a Master's
 Degree in English from Fort Hays State University. At Washington 
University she met Robert Luehrs, a fellow student. It was his good 
fortune to marry her in 1965. The couple moved to Hays in 1968 so that 
Robert could pursue a career as a Professor of History at FHSU.

Chris had the attributes of a 
Renaissance woman. She was a perceptive lady of wit, culture, talent, 
grace, and creativity. She was also devoted to her family and friends. 
At various times she worked as an assistant for professors and 
physicians, was office manager for the Campus Ecumenical Center, and ran
 her own catering business. Primarily, Chris was an educator, as a high 
school history teacher in St. Louis and, for 15 years, as an Instructor 
of English at FHSU, retiring in 2006. She published a number of articles
 on mystery authors who use historical settings for their novels.

She liked shopping for Victorian 
oddities, reading British detective stories, collecting teddy bears, 
preparing various ethnic foods, and being hostess at elaborate parties 
and dinners. She enjoyed mythology and folklore, especially the tales 
attached to Halloween. With her husband, she designed a Halloween 
festival at FHSU in the 1970s and 1980s and subsequent Halloween 
displays in the university's library until last year, quitting not 
because of a lack of ideas but because of a lack of energy. Chris held 
offices in Eastern Star and volunteered at the Hays Arts Council. She 
served as a lay reader and head of the Altar Guild for St. Michael's 
Episcopal Church. She played the piano and organ for pleasure. As befit a
 Renaissance woman, she helped organize the university's annual 
Renaissance Christmas celebration, the Madrigal Dinner, for fifteen 
years, playing the roles of Lady of the Manor for five years and the 
Queen of England twice.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; 
her daughter, Rebecca Johnson of Nowata, Oklahoma; her son-in-law, 
Patrick Johnson; her granddaughter, Roslin Johnson; her brother, E. 
Nicholas Wade of Aurora, Illinois; and her cousin, Martha Ellison of 
Alexandria, Virginia.

Funeral services celebrating Chris' 
life will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 15, 2022, at St. Michael's

Patricia Criss (Stover)

Patricia Anne Pierce, daughter of Henry F and Edith L (Campbell) Pierce was born on April 2, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo.&nbsp; Her death occurred Sept. 19, 2022, at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, Gardner at the age of 76.

Patricia lived her early life in Hays.&nbsp; On Nov. 18, 1964, she was united in marriage to Henry Mason Sellers at Hays. This union was blessed with three children: Margaret, Christine and Katherine.

Patricia occupied her life with the many activities of a homemaker, housewife, mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She made the family home in several communities in Kansas while traveling with her family until 1987 when Henry and Patricia moved to Manhattan, Kan., until 2002 when Patricia moved to Russell, until 2019 when she was moved to Gardner to live out her life.

She enjoyed playing the piano for her children and grandchildren and having holidays with her family.&nbsp; She also enjoyed researching family genealogy and creating a variety of food dishes.&nbsp; She played the piano for musical productions in Singapore and Manhattan, Kan.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, Henry and (Edith) Lorraine Pierce and two great-granddaughters, Meredith and Macy.

Survivors are Henry Sellers of Russell, daughters: Margaret Sellers of Kansas City, Mo., Christine Sellers of Russell, and Katherine Sellers of Russell.&nbsp; Also surviving are her granddaughters: Angela (Miller) Meyer and her husband, Patrick of Adrian, Mo., Jamie Crawford of St. John, Kansas, Randi Steinle of Yukon, Okla., and Chandler (Reich) Sellens and her husband, Jake of Russell.&nbsp; Her great-grandchildren:&nbsp; Edwin, Porter, Veda, Reese and Adler. Her brother, Henry Pierce &nbsp;and his wife MaryLynn of Ohio, her sister MaryBeth Sayre, her husband Larry of Texas, and a number of other relatives.

At 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17,&nbsp; family and friends will gather at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601, for a celebration of Patricia's life.&nbsp; Patricia will be buried at Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays.

Virginia Rose (Medford) Sanders, formerly of Quinter, Kansas, passed 
peacefully into heaven on Friday, September 23, 2022.&nbsp; Lovingly called 
“Ginny” by many of her family and friends, she had been living at Gove County
 Long Term Care in Quinter, Kansas, for the past 7 years.

Virginia was born on January 31st, 1933, and raised on the
 Medford farm, between Levant, Winona and Brewster. Of the five 
children, Virginia was the second child and first daughter of Sam and 
Pearl Medford. She graduated from Colorado Women’s College in Denver, 
Colorado and then started a career in business.&nbsp; Virginia married Donald
 Richard Sanders of Wichita, Kansas, and they had two children.&nbsp; 
Virginia and Don were divorced in 1972.&nbsp; Virginia worked in several 
different jobs over the years, including owning and operating Farmers 
Market Grocery Store in Grinnell, KS.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Sam and Pearl Medford, 
her brother Samuel Wayne Medford and her sisters Beverly Ann (Medford) 
Vallimont and Barbara Jean (Medford) Potter.

Virginia is survived by her sisters Sandy (Medford) McCune (Bedford, 
PA), Alana Keck (Colby, KS) and Pamela Medford (unknown).&nbsp; Virginia’s 
children, Rick Sanders (Columbia, MO) and Linda Sue (Sanders) Teeter 
(Grainfield, KS), have provided Virginia with eight grandchildren and 
twenty-three great grandchildren.

No services will be held as Virginia asked that a Celebration of Life
 be conducted by family and friends.&nbsp; Rick Sanders and Linda Teeter will
 be scheduling this in the Spring of 2023. Details will be provided 
later.

Virginia Rose (Medford) Sanders

Jennie Sue Smith, 98 passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2022, while 
under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky.  She was born in Selden, 
KS December 6, 1923, to the late Harley Schrock and Nannie Sue Vaughn 
Schrock. 

 Jennie was a member of the Hoxie Christian Church, where she 
was the organist for many years.  She was a member of the Order of the 
Eastern Star where she had received her 75-year pin in December of 2017 
and the Hoxie Rotary Club.  Jennie started her career working as 
bookkeeper for implement dealers in Hoxie and retired from KN energy on 
March 14, 1986, after 21 years of service.  She enjoyed working in her 
flower garden, playing the organ and piano, knitting, playing cards, 
word searches and time with her family.  Jennie lived 93 years in 
Northwest Kansas before moving to Owensboro, KY to be near a daughter 
and son in law. She enjoyed the activities, new friends and staff at 
Heritage Place assisted living facility.  She was a favorite of the 
staff  there. She also enjoyed car rides and all the beautiful trees of 
Kentucky; she never refused a stop for ice cream on these rides.  Visits
 from friends and family from back home were always welcome.

Shelby,NC, Monica Sinclair, of Houston TX and Janessa Player (James) of 
Albuquerque, NM. Great-Grandchildren, Easton and Isley Nance, Derby, KS,
 Emilia Player, Albuquerque, NM, Elliott Pearson, Shelby, NC and 
Sheridan Sinclair, Houston, TX. Nieces and Nephews.Visitation
 will be held, Friday, October 14th, 2022, 4:00 PM – 7:00PM at

Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday. October 15, 2022 10:30 AM
