Kristopher “Kris” Thyfault, age 45, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at HaysMed. Kris was born September 4, 1977, in Russell, Kansas, to Terrance Thyfault and Linda (Wolf) Thyfault. Kris graduated from Russell High School in 1996 where he participated in Football, Track and Band. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, playing cards with family, and attending his niece and nephews sporting events. Kris was a longtime employee with Universal Termite and Pest Control in Hays. Kris was well known with his customers and hard to miss because of his size. Contrary to his size Kris was known as a kind, soft spoken man who enjoyed visiting with his customers and making lasting relationships with them. Kris is survived by his father, Terry Thyfault of Topeka; his mother, Linda Thyfault of Hays; his sister, Katrina Schmidt and husband Eric and their children, Kyla and Kobe all of Hays; a grandmother, Edna Wolf Billinger (Pete) of Hays as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Kris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Anita Thyfault and Marcellus Wolf as well as an uncle, Rick Wolf. Kristopher 'Kris' Thyfault

Dale Eugene Hiser, 75, a resident of Cleveland, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, 
November 22, 2022, in a Chattanooga hospital. 

Dale was born in Hays, 
Kansas, and he was the son of the late Bessie Smith Hiser and Grady 
Hiser. His sisters, Bonnie Bain, Freda Lambert and his brothers, Marvin 
Hiser and Roy Hiser also preceded him in death. 

For 51 years, he served 
in Management for several large Manufacturing Companies including Cessna
 Aircraft, Copeland-Emerson, Lexington Furniture, Maytag/Whirlpool and 
Lazy Boy. Dale enjoyed the outdoors including fishing, hunting, golf and
 boating. He was a member of the ELKs Lodge, NRA and Pheasants Forever. 
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church here in Cleveland. 
 Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Wilma Pywell Hiser, Cleveland, 
son, Shawn Hiser, Cleveland, daughter, Dayla Hiser Rainwater (Clark) 
Cullman, Alabama, grandchildren, Kelsey Rainwater, Tucker Rainwater, 
sister, Gail Botinelly (Joe), Wichita, Kansas, numerous sisters in law, 
brothers in law, nieces and nephews. The Remembrance of Life 
Service will be conducted on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 4 P. M. E.S.T.

Dale Eugene Hiser

Patricia L. Sands, 85, of Hutchinson, passed away peacefully November
 22, 2022, at Hospice House of Reno County after a brief battle with 
pancreatic cancer. She was born September 24, 1937, in Burdett, the 
daughter of Everett and Opal (Epley) Ruby.

A longtime resident of Hutchinson, Pattie graduated from Hutchinson 
High School in 1955. She was employed at various Hutchinson stores, 
including Peel’s Beauty Supply. Pattie was a longtime member of Hope 
Church (previously Believers Tabernacle and First Assembly of God) in 
Hutchinson and loved her church family.

Pattie married Douglas Sands on June 25, 1960. He died May 19, 2014.

She is survived by: her children, LaDena Sands Dosdall (Gerald) of 
Wichita, Michael Sands (Sharon) of Lorain, OH; grandchildren, Bethany 
Newell (Cliff), Lindsey Long (Grant), Elizabeth Henry (Matt), Wesley 
Dosdall (Caitlin); great-grandchildren, Gianna, Zevulun, Luke, Logan, 
Clayton; sister, Kay Bergen-Potts; niece, Barbara Bergen Whitmore; and 
nephew, Marc Bergen (Teri).

Pattie was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Steve, Joe, and Greg Ruby.

Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 
30, 2022, at Hope Church, 1701 N. Main, Hutchinson, with Pastors Bobby 
Massey and Kendall Sheats officiating. Burial will follow in Eastside

Mike (Cecil) Peters, 73, passed from this world on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Mike
 was born Oct. 11, 1949, in La Crosse, KS to Robert and Munica 
(Reynolds) Peters. In 1967, he graduated from McCracken High School. 
On October 19, 1968, he was united in marriage to Diana Lynn Schaffer in 
Liebenthal, KS. They celebrated 53 years of marriage last month. Mike
 began his career at Carey Salt in Hutchinson, KS where he worked for 
three years. He spent the next 35 years working for United Parcel 
Service (UPS) in Hays, KS. You would never see Mike without a 
smile on his face; he didn’t know a stranger. He had a contagious laugh 
that brought joy to everyone he would meet. Mike was a fun-loving, 
hardworking, and selfless man, with a heart bigger than any other. His 
love for life, perseverance, and strength will live on in all who knew 
him. Mike enjoyed playing golf, going to the casinos, and watching his 
grandkids’ sporting events. Most of all, he loved his family. Survivors
 include his wife Diana of Olathe, KS., three daughters: Mellissa 
Shepherd, Michelle Mussat, and Marla Andregg, all of Overland Park, KS: 
his brother, Dennis Peters of Plano, TX; three grandsons: Stephen Mussat

Bettie Elaine (Stupka) Hamill, age 84, of Colby, died at her home from pneumonia and lung complications on November 21, 2022. 
Bettie was born in Thomas County, KS on December 2, 1938, to parents 
Anna Margaret (Janousek) and Lou “L.J.” Stupka. Her family lived on a 
farm and a house north of town that Lou built himself. 
She graduated from Levant High School in 1957. Throughout her life, she 
worked as office help in the old Colby hospital and dental offices. She 
became a realtor and then cleaned for the courthouse for many years. 
She enjoyed restoring furniture, redecorating her homes, bird watching, 
garage sales, and riding horses (bareback); when she was a little girl. 
But most of all, she loved to laugh, tell jokes, and pull pranks. 
Keeping everyone on their toes with the commentary that she narrated of 
events. 
Bettie married Jimmie Mentlick, and to this union were born her two 
girls, Lesa Ann and Stacey Danielle. In her later years, around 1997, 
she became the last companion to Joe Ruddell for 19 years. 
When she fell ill due to the effects of her cancer, she moved in with Lesa. Stacy moved home from Wichita to assist in her care. 
Bettie was preceded in death by her companion Joe Ruddell; her siblings,
 Fronie, Sonny, Ed, Chuck, Vivian, Mildred, Bernice, and Hedy; parents 
Anna and Lou Stupka. Bettie is survived by her brother Bud Stupka and 
her daughters, Lesa Ann and Stacey Danielle. 
A Memorial Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 
2022, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Memorials may be made to the Bettie

Bettie Elaine (Stupka) Hamill

Keith D. Waddington, 93, passed away November 22, 2022, at his home in Larned.

He was born June 24, 1929, in Cairo, Nebraska, the son of Jay and Hazel Manners Waddington.

Moving from Moore, Oklahoma, he was a Larned resident for ten years. 
He served in the United States Navy and later worked as a civilian for 
the Air Force Department of Defense. In his early years he was a 
volunteer firefighter while living in New York and after obtaining his 
pilot’s license, enjoyed flying. He was active in his children’s school 
organizations while they were growing up and an avid golfer.

In 1953, he married Helen Berg in South Dakota; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include: son, Doug Waddington, Larned and daughter Diane (Don) Holdeman, Woodward, Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; brother, Clarence
 “Butch” Waddington; four sisters, Ruby Warner, Claire Levine, Bonnie 
Rust, and Arlene Graf; and a grandson, Keith Allen Hoover.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service with military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary 
Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Jarred Smith presiding. Visitation will be 
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary, 
Larned, with family present from 2-5 p.m. Inurnment will be at a later 
date at Lutheran Church Cemetery in Newman Grove, Nebraska.

 </figure>Keith D. Waddington, 93, passed away November 22, 2022, at his home in Larned.He was born June 24, 1929, in Cairo, Nebraska, the son of Jay and Hazel Manners Waddington.Moving from Moore, Oklahoma, he was a Larned resident for ten years. 
He served in the United States Navy and later worked as a civilian for 
the Air Force Department of Defense. In his early years he was a 
volunteer firefighter while living in New York and after obtaining his 
pilot’s license, enjoyed flying. He was active in his children’s school 
organizations while they were growing up and an avid golfer.In 1953, he married Helen Berg in South Dakota; she preceded him in death.Survivors include: son, Doug Waddington, Larned and daughter Diane (Don) Holdeman, Woodward, Oklahoma.He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; brother, Clarence
 “Butch” Waddington; four sisters, Ruby Warner, Claire Levine, Bonnie

Mariquita S. Fry passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter 
Pauline, surrounded by James, James L. and Jonathan Tapia at her home in
 Romeroville, NM on November 18, 2022.

Mariquita lived most of her life in Kansas, where she enjoyed working
 in her garden. She enjoyed fishing, embroidery, crochet, hunting, and 
tea parties with her church family.

She worked for Department of Health as a translator, in Kinsley, KS, 
and CNA for Parkview Manor in Macksville, KS. She enjoyed traveling. 
Most memorable was her trip to Disneyland, view of the ocean and 
collecting seashells, and enjoying a St. Louis Cardinals game.

She was born in Ojito Frios, NM to the late Adelaido Salas and Marta 
Tenorio on February 25, 1932. She is preceded in death by sons Felipe 
and Joe B. Baca, grandson Michael Baca and great-grandson Brendan 
Graber.

She is survived by her daughter Pauline Tapia (James) of Romeroville,
 NM, Nash Baca (Margie) of Dodge City, KS, daughter Lucy Baca (Faustino)
 of Hernandez, NM, Mary McClurg (Charlie) of Hays, KS, daughter Lisa Jo 
of Boston, MA, son Johnny Baca of Austin, TX, son Greg Baca (Brittany) 
of Salina, KS. 19 grandchildren, granddaughter she raised Tonie Graber 
(Mark) of Pratt, KS, 24 great-grandchildren, 9 
great-great-grandchildren. Step-sons Randy and Jerry Fry of Kansas, 
numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

The Family would like to thank the Amber care and their caring staff.
 They also want to thank her friends and the staff at Meadows long term 
facility.

Rosary will be recited on Tuesday November 29, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, NM.

parents Elmer and Eva Piper. Fran entered into marriage to Jim Stansbury

To this marriage, 3 children were born James A. Stansbury, Terry Stansbury and Kristie (Stansbury) Clancy.

Fran
 worked as the Bookkeeper for Jim’s S&amp;H Body &amp; Frame and later 
for Jim’s Tire &amp; Alignment. In 1980 Fran went to work in 
Housekeeping at Smith County Memorial Hospital where she worked for 22 
years before retiring.

Fran’s hobbies included Camping at Glen Elder, following, and playing with Grandkids and great grandkids.

Frances Mary 'Fran' Stansbury

Marion Anthony Otter passed from this earth at the age of 87 on November 20, 2022, at home in New Almelo, KS.

Marion was born on the farm in Norton County on March 28, 1935, to Frank G. Otter and Margaret K. [Bates] Otter.

He
 was joined in Holy Matrimony with Marilyn F. [Hickert] on November 28, 
1957.  To this marriage were born Frank, Greg, Steve, Doug and Emily 
[Otter] Kessler.

Marion might have told you that he was a graduate
 of the school of hard knocks or that tuition is high, no matter where 
you go to school.  He was a farmer/rancher, an inventor and had a 
natural understanding of engineering and economics.  In 1958, he founded 
Otter Manufacturing in a small out-building on the farm, later upgrading
 to a building made from the top of a barn and later into the twin 
buildings that is now Otter’s Inc in rural Norton County. From the 
beginning he built tool implement carriers and dozer blades for farm 
tractors, performed equipment repairs for neighbors and assisted in many
 area projects.  Over the years he and sons Frank, Greg and Doug 
continued to farm, ranch and build dozer blades.  Marion and Marilyn 
delivered blades to over 20 states over the years before incorporating 
the business and semi-retiring in 1997.  He continued to work with the 
guys at the farm doing whatever needed to be done.

Over the years,
 Marion was a member of several organizations including St Joseph’s 
Parish Council, Knights of Columbus, National Farmer Organization (NFO),
 Western Kansas Manufacturing Association (WKMA), USD 213 Lenora School 
Board, Goodland Vocational Technical school board, Rural Telephone 
Service board, Norton County Soil Conservation Service and St. Joseph 
Cemetery sexton. During the 70’s he also coached and umpired games for 
Lenora K-18 league baseball.

He was active in his parish of St. 
Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo and the community where he helped 
with numerous projects including mixing &amp; hauling mortar for the 
school gymnasium school addition. Renovating the St. Joseph church in 
the 60’s and addition of accessibility ramp and entrance to the church. 
Some of his welding projects included the belltower for the Jennings 
Methodist Church, the Allison livestock collection point, metal trusses 
for re-roofing the St. Joseph &amp; Lenora Grade School, the Lenora 
Larrick Park concession stand and restroom modernization.

Marion 
is survived by his wife Marilyn; siblings: Alvin Otter, Sr., Donna 
Otter, and JoAnn Long; children: Frank [Levonne], Greg [Tammy], Steve 
and Emily [Gary]; nine grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

 Monday, November 28, with a Rosary of our Lord following at 7:00 pm at 
the New Almelo Gymnasium.

Marion Anthony Otter

Paul Edward Phillips, 79, Hays, died 
Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at his home surrounded by family, after a 
long battle with pancreatic and liver illness.&nbsp;

He was born on January 25, 1943, in 
Peoria, Illinois, to Dale and Frances (Icenogle) Phillips.&nbsp; In 1961, he 
graduated from Woodruff High School in Peoria and then earned his BS and
 MS degrees at Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois in 1965 and
 1967.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Purkey at Christ 
Lutheran Church in Normal, Illinois, on May 29, 1965.&nbsp; Paul earned his 
PhD at the University of Kansas in 1978, and he taught Cultural 
Geography at Fort Hays State University for 50 years, retiring in 2017.

While at FHSU, he taught a multitude of
 geography courses, led numerous geography field trips for students and 
teachers, was chairperson of the Department of Geosciences, initiated 
the teaching of geography for students across the globe courses at FHSU 
via distance learning, was instrumental in developing the Kansas 
Geography Alliance to educate K-12 teachers in effective methods to 
include geography in the state’s social studies curriculum, as well as 
serving on many university committees throughout his tenure.

Paul was also active in his church and 
in the community of Hays.&nbsp; At Messiah Lutheran Church, he served 
multiple times as congregational president and on the Board of Parish 
Life, more recently helping in the kitchen for the Wednesday Midweek 
evening education program and Vacation Bible School.&nbsp; His community 
activities included holding many offices in the Hays Lions Club, on the 
Board of Directors for the Farmer’s Credit Union, and many years of the 
Hays City Planning Commission, continuing to serve as chairperson until 
the time of his latest illness.&nbsp; His longtime interest in radio found an
 outlet as he served on the High Plains Public Radio (HPPR) board for 
many years.

Survivors include Pat, his wife of 
fifty-seven years of the home, his daughter Keri Lynn Applequist and 
husband Patrick, a granddaughter Jennifer Anne Applequist and a grandson
 Phillip James Applequist, all of Larned, Kansas, a sister Carol 
Anderson and husband Charles of Tucson, Arizona, as well as nieces and 
nephews in Illinois and Arizona.

Paul loved traveling and enjoyed 
sharing stories and pictures from his many trips across the US and 
around the world.&nbsp; He strongly feels that first hand knowledge about the
 world is more important today than ever, so when he realized his time 
on earth was nearing its end, he and Pat established the Paul and Pat 
Phillips Abroad Award at FHSU to support students pursuing a BS degree 
and wishing to spend a semester abroad.&nbsp; This would help with student 
expenses not otherwise covered by the Study Abroad Exchange Program.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays, with 
Pastor Kenton Rohrberg and Pastor John Morley officiating.&nbsp; Burial will 
follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery with a lunch served in the fellowship hall 
of the church after the graveside service.&nbsp; The family will receive 
friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel 
Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street, Hays and from 9:00 am until service time
 on Tuesday at the church.

Karla Jean Garcia, 65, passed away November 21, 2022, at Medicalodges
 of Great Bend. She was born December 15, 1956, in Dodge City, to Jack 
&amp; Barbara Jean (Stairett) Dunn. She married Jerry Garcia on 
September 26, 2015, in Great Bend.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Coming from Ellinwood in 2011, Karla was a current Great Bend 
resident. She worked in child services at the local SRS offices. Karla 
enjoyed cooking, camping and cross stitching, as well as watching 
Gunsmoke, Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right.

Survivors include, her husband, Jerry of the home; a step daughter, 
Megan Garcia; a brother, Mike Dunn of Grand Junction, Colo.; two 
sisters, Pam Dunn (Ron Sarno) of Council Grove and Debbie (Wayne) 
Blunden of Abilene; and a granddaughter, Adalyn Grace. She was preceded 
in death by her parents.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial

Helen L. Delay, age 83, passed away on 
Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on November 9, 1939, in Kinsley, Kansas, the 
daughter of Theodore &amp; Elsie Spears Bernatski.&nbsp; A resident of Scott 
City, Kansas since 2016 moving from Lewis, Kansas, she was a homemaker.

On October 13, 1956, she married Dale Delay in Clayton, New Mexico.&nbsp; He passed away on November 29, 2015, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her One Son - Joe &amp; Jody Delay of Schaumburg, 
Illinois, Two Daughters - Leatrice &amp; Mike DiLoreto of Longmont, 
Colorado, Dawn &amp; Devin Hutchins of Scott City, Kansas, One Sister - 
Audrey Huffman of Sioux City, Iowa, Eight Grandchildren, and Five Great 
Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband - Dale Delay, Two 
Sisters - Dorothy Danler and Ruth Domme, and One Brother - Robert 
Bernatski.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

An area resident for 28 years, Del worked as a salesman in many home 
improvement areas. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in 
Ellinwood, Kan., and loved studying the Bible and sharing his faith with
 family and friends. Del also enjoyed music, specifically the guitar, 
fishing, and above all else, spending time with his family and 
babysitting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lover of 
animals, specifically his beagle, Toby.&nbsp;

Survivors include a daughter, Dorthea Collins and spouse, Terry, of 
Ellinwood, Kan.; a son, Raymond Coburn of Glendale, Ariz.; six 
grandchildren, Mandy and spouse, Travis, Bridgette, Jenna, Tara, 
Brandon, and Gavriel; six great-grandchildren, Breanna, Travis, 
Braelynn, Landon, Alice and Charlotte; and a honorary daughter, Betsy of
 Ariz. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Delain

Jon Lynn&nbsp;Reifschneider, 61, passed away November 20, 2022, at his home. &nbsp;He was born January 4, 1961, in Garden City, KS, to Gerald Lynn&nbsp;Reifschneider&nbsp;and Phyllis Joan (Renfro)&nbsp;Reifschneider.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jon spent a brief time in Saint Louis, MO, before moving to Great Bend, KS.

Jon attended Harrison Junior High School and was a 1979 graduate of Great Bend Senior High School. &nbsp;While in high school, he played the&nbsp;french&nbsp;horn,&nbsp;trumpet&nbsp;and drums in the band. &nbsp;Jon participated in Debate and won third place at State with his debate partner, Libby Moore, and second place at Regionals. &nbsp;He was a member of the National Speech and Forensics League. &nbsp;Jon was the reporter for the Future Farmers of America (FFA) from 1978 to 1979 and a member of the State Student Congress. &nbsp;He attended Barton County Community College, graduating in 1981 with an&nbsp;Associates&nbsp;Degree in Pre-Law. &nbsp;In 1983, Jon obtained a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Administration.

From 1983 to 1986, he was employed as a deputy for the Barton County Sheriff’s Reserve. &nbsp;Jon worked as an&nbsp;equipment operator and corrosion repairman for Straub Oil Field, Great Bend, from 1984 to 1986. &nbsp;He then went to work as a sales representative for AW Chesterton, Wichita, KS, from 1986 to 1991. &nbsp;In 1991, Jon was employed by JCI Industries as a Sales Engineer, Sales Manager, Vice-President of&nbsp;Sales&nbsp;and Sales Territory Manager,&nbsp;until 2020. &nbsp;He was the top Sales Engineer for a majority of his career.

Jon served on the Unified School District #310 Board of Education from 2001 to 2004. &nbsp;He served as the Board President from 2005 to 2009. &nbsp;Jon, along with his dear friend, James Williams, founded and served as co-chairpersons for the Arlington Recreation Commission in 2000. &nbsp;He, along with many other parent volunteers, coached just about every sport from T-ball to basketball.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jon was a member of&nbsp;Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, South Hutchinson.

He&nbsp;enjoyed fishing, hunting, slow pitch softball, snow skiing, water skiing, and boating. &nbsp;Jon&nbsp;raised quail and developed the family farm into a wildlife refuge. &nbsp;In 2000, he&nbsp;received&nbsp;the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Wildlife Award. &nbsp;Jon’s favorite hobby was watching his kids participate in academic and athletic events through the collegiate level. &nbsp;Later in life, he enjoyed listening to music with his grandchildren in the man cave and teaching them about raising goats and cattle and going for rides in the&nbsp;polaris.

On January 10, 1987, Jon married Marilyn McIntosh, in Wichita, KS. &nbsp;In 1996, they purchased their farm and move to Arlington, KS. &nbsp;Together they had three children, Paul, Elizabeth, and Michael.

He is survived by: &nbsp;his wife, Marilyn&nbsp;Reifschneider&nbsp;of Arlington; children, Paul (Robin)&nbsp;Reifschneider&nbsp;of Newton, KS, Elizabeth (Sean&nbsp;Boston)&nbsp;Reifschneider&nbsp;of Hays, KS, and Michael (Madalyn&nbsp;Oliver)&nbsp;Reifschneiderof Round Rock, TX; grandchildren, Avery Harper, Parker Lynn, Eli Gerald, Lucas Paul, and Landry Jon; and siblings, Tom (Tasha)&nbsp;Reifschneider&nbsp;and Lori Ann&nbsp;Reifschneider.

Jon was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his parents,&nbsp;Gerald&nbsp;and Phyllis&nbsp;Reifschneider; infant brother, Paul David&nbsp;Reifschneider; and parents-in-law, Charles Oscar and Leona McIntosh.

Jon Lynn Reifschneider

Donna Lea Chambers was born in Allison, Kansas, on January 29, 1931, to
 Archie Theodore and Ruby (Rolland) McKenna.&nbsp; She attended school in 
Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School with the class 
of 1948.

In 1948, Donna married Robert Chambers in Oberlin, Kansas.&nbsp; The 
couple would have eight children together.&nbsp; They would later divorce.&nbsp; 
In her lifetime, Donna made homes in McCook, Nebraska, Oberlin, Kansas, 
and in Hays, Kansas. In Hays, she worked at the High Plains Medical 
Health Center for over 25 years as a secretary and clerk.&nbsp; Donna worked 
hard all her life to support her family.&nbsp;

Donna enjoyed sewing and quilting.&nbsp; She made quilts for many of 
her children and grandchildren.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking and loved to 
travel.&nbsp; She took countless trips with the family and saw most of the 
Continental United States.&nbsp; She also took many cruises and countless bus
 tours, one traveling through Canada and Alaska.&nbsp; Above all, Donna was a
 proud mother and grandmother.&nbsp; She enjoyed her grandchildren’s many 
activities and especially cherished the family trips to Chadron to watch
 Eagle Football games in the fall.

Donna passed away Sunday morning, November 20, 2022, at Community Hospital in McCook.&nbsp; She was 91 years of age.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward 
McKenna; sister, Pat Hartzog; and an infant child.&nbsp; Donna was the last 
survivor in her immediate family of her generation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her children: son, Robert (Julie) Chambers of 
Conifer, Colorado; Daughter, Barbara Higgins of Treasure Island, 
Florida; son, Don (Mary Jo) Chambers of Hays, Kansas; son, Jerry (Frani)
 Chambers of McCook; daughter, Janet (Dick) Haag of Indianola, Nebraska;
 daughter, Anita Chambers of McCook and son, Doug (Rhonda) Chambers of 
Culpeper, Virginia; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two 
great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Gloria McKenna of Colby,
 Kansas.

Visitation will be held from 4-6PM on Sunday afternoon, November 27, 2022, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook.&nbsp;

Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Monday morning, November 
28, 2022, at the First Congregational Church in McCook with Pastor Steve

 Wilson and Bessie Ellen (Sharp) West. 
Tracey attended the Amy grade school, Grades 1-8. He graduated from the 
Community High School of Lane County (1957) and the University of 
Kansas, with a BA in International Relations, Army ROTC (1961). 
Commissioned as a 2nd Lt., US Army (1961) and honorably discharged as a 
1st Lt. (1963), he served as an Area Intelligence Officer, stationed in 
Korea. Following his discharge from the Army, Tracey became a civilian 
contractor with the Defense Intelligence Agency and returned to Korea 
until his retirement in 1994. 
In his retirement years, he lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Long 
Beach, California until October 2021, when he moved to the Good 
Samaritan Society - Loveland Village, Loveland, Colorado, to be near his
 younger brother, Gary West. Tracy battled valiantly against the ravages
 of Parkinson’s disease through the last year of his life, finally 
succumbing to the effects of a massive stroke suffered November 1, 2022.
 
He passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus while under hospice care at 
the Good Sam’s Care Center. He will be interred at the Dighton Memorial 
Cemetery, Dighton, Kansas, in the family plot. At his request, there

born January 3, 1939, in Scott City, Kansas, the second of three sons, to

Carey J. “Kink” Pyle, age 69, passed away on 
Sunday, November 20, 2022, at his home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was 
born on August 27, 1953, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Edgar &amp; 
Lois Nickel Pyle. A resident of Scott City, Kansas, since 2021 moving 
from Hermiston, Oregon, he was a truck driver.

On November 15, 1994, he married Sandra L. Watt in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; She passed away on July 19, 2020, in Hermiston, Oregon.

Survivors include his One Son - Ben Valley of Noel, Missouri, One 
Granddaughter - Kristen Voss of Kansas City, Missouri, One Sister - 
Terri Ford of Belton, Texas, One Brother - John Pyle of Scott City, 
Kansas, and Numerous Nieces &amp; Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife - Sandy, and One Brother - Ralph Pyle.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, 
November 25, 2022, at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas

Bettie Elaine Hamill (Stupka)

Donald L. “Don” Sander, 75, of Richland, Iowa, passed away 
peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the
 Jefferson County Health Care Center. As were his wishes, his body has 
been cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donald Lee 
Sander was born on April 17, 1947, in Victoria, Kansas, to Celestine and 
Pauline (Stang) Sander.  He graduated from Victoria High School and then
 went on to further his education with a Bachelor’s degree from 
Marymount College of Business and a Graduate Degree from Friends 
University in Wichita, Kansas.  He was a rambunctious teenager that drew
 people in with his humor and heart. Don was married to the love of his 
life and high school sweetheart, Carol Vonfeldt for over 56 years.  Don 
was a man of many talents and filled his lifetime with experiences, 
travel, family, and adventure.  He loved working part-time as a DJ for 
country radio and being a racecar announcer in Salina, Kansas.  He 
served proudly in the United States Air Force from 1966 until 1970 and 
was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United 
States.  When the family moved to Iowa, Donald worked as the plant 
manager for Harper Brush in Fairfield, retiring in 2022.  Donald cared 
deeply for his family.  He was a loving grandfather who was adored by 
his grandchildren and great grandchildren. If you asked any of his 
grandchildren or great grandchildren, they would say he was the funniest
 man there ever was and no one could ever make a better pancake.  His 
laugh was contagious, and he had a joke for every occasion.  He could 
always be found watching college football or basketball (go Jayhawks!), 
reading, or spending time with family. His hand always had a cup of 
coffee and he would never pass up a donut. He would open his home to 
anyone who needed a home cooked meal, you never left hungry, and  spent 
his life helping others. Don’s stories, advice, and wisdom will last a 
lifetime and beyond.  He will be deeply missed by his family and his 
many friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings.

two children, Clayton Sander of Richland, IA and Renee (Jason) Eberhart 
of Topeka, KS; three grandchildren, Ashley (Lane) Johnson of Keosauqua, 
IA, Thomas (Trisha) Armstrong of Kansas City, KS, and Corey 
Kindlesparger of Salina, KS, ten great grandchildren, as well as 
extended family and friends. He is also survived by his sister Doris 
Hertel of Wichita, KS.

Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Pfeifer, 89, Hays, died Monday, November 21, 2022, at Via Christi Village.

She was born May 23, 1933, in Hays, the 
middle child of fifteen children of Leo E. and Martha (Etzel) Karlin.&nbsp; 
On August 31, 1959 she was united in marriage to Don J. Pfeifer in 
Victoria, and they celebrated over 37 years of marriage before he 
preceded her in death on January 11, 1997.&nbsp; She and her husband owned 
and operated Pfeifer’s Jewelry and Gifts in Victoria.&nbsp; Her memberships 
included St. Joseph Catholic Church of Hays, The Basilica of St. Fidelis
 of Victoria, the Secular Order of Franciscans, and CSA.&nbsp; Betty Ann and 
her family cooked at St. Joseph Military Academy, and she volunteered at
 St. John’s Rest Home and Cedarview Assisted Living.&nbsp; She loved to cook,
 enjoyed flowers, traveling, and having fun with her extended bowling 
family.&nbsp; Betty Ann was Don’s biggest cheerleader and was beloved by her 
nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Survivors include two brothers:&nbsp; Tom 
Karlin and wife Laura of Eatonville, WA, John Karlin of Hillsboro, OR, 
five sisters-in-law: Arlene Karlin of Great Bend, Nadine Karlin of 
Beloit, Sharon Karlin of Salina, Rose Guercio of Victoria, and Donna 
Simoneau of Hays, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Don, eight brothers: Felix, Leroy, infant Norman, 
infant Gerard, Herb, Peter, Larry, and Fred Karlin, and four sisters: 
Sister Leonissa Karlin, Katie Dreiling, Sister Mary Martha Karlin, and 
Martha Jean Biegler.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, 
with Fr. Curtis Carlson, O.F.M. Cap.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Fidelis 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Tuesday at Hays
 Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 1:00 pm until service time on 
Tuesday at the church.&nbsp; A vigil service will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday at

Elizabeth 'Betty' Ann Pfeifer

Elsie Beiser, age 98, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Friday, November 18, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. She was born August 25, 1924, north of Ellis, Kansas, in rural Ellis County to Henry and Jennie (Zachman) Keller.&nbsp;

Elsie was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church north of Ellis. Her confirmation was the last class taught in German. She attended the Cottonwood Grove one room country school and graduated from Ellis High School in 1943.

Elsie married Roy “Buck” Huffman August 22, 1948, and they had two children, Phyllis and Phil. After Roy passed away Elsie married and was preceded in death by two husbands, David Ehrlich, and Dale Beiser.

Elsie’s remarkable life had her living through WWII, dust storms, the depression, and the Ellis flood of 1957.&nbsp; She and her husband Roy owned Ellis Liquor Store for many years. She worked with the Census, was involved with the Russell VFW, and loved to campaign for Bob Dole. She was also part of the Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion.

Elsie was known by many, never knew a stranger and was one to never judge. She loved her family and took great joy in the holidays, birthdays, and activities with all of them. She had many hobbies such as cooking, canning, dancing, sports, a good debate over politics, traveling to the Ozarks and enjoying the outdoors and simply being the life of the party. &nbsp;

Elsie was a part of several families lives and loved them all. On Memorial Day she often joked she had to pack a lunch to get to every grave and make sure they were properly decorated. Elsie’s strong faith and caring heart allowed her to truly be a lifelong caretaker of many family members and friends.&nbsp;

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Werger and husband Gregg of Casper, Wyoming; her son, Phil Huffman of Dodge City, Kansas; grandchildren, Sarah Brogden of Ellis, Kassie Cobley of Denver and Megan (Cole) Gerlach of Scott City. Elsie had a special place in her heart for Mike and Sharon Weigel and their three daughters, Sheldon Bennett, Justine Evans and Graci Weigel as well as numerous great grandchildren and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Roy Huffman, David Ehrlich and Dale Beiser; brothers, Wendell, Gerhard, Henry, and Reinhard Keller; and sisters, Hilda Young and Johanna Myers.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Visitation will be Tuesday 9 AM - 11 AM at the church.
