Evadean F. Huff (Poage)

Rob was born October 12, 1957, to Ruth (Schweitzer) and Maurice Blackford in Hill City. He graduated from Hill City High School in 1976. He enjoyed working at the elevator in Albert and at Larned State Hospital.

Rob’s fondest memories were when he traveled with the band Night Machine. He also absolutely loved his Datsun 280Z and had so much fun driving it.

Rob enjoyed the outdoors. This included playing as a kid in the creek and building forts with his nephew David and niece Susan. Outdoor photography was also his passion. He and his niece Nancy spent many hours roaming his father’s farm looking for the perfect shots for her 4-H project. He enjoyed fishing and boating trips to Wyoming and Colorado. When he moved to Logan, he could often be found driving around the countryside or at the lake taking pictures of nature.

He loved cooking and using all kinds of spices and would spend hours going through the Chinese grocery stores and the Spice Merchant in Wichita.

Rob was predeceased by his parents Maurice &amp; Ruth Blackford and step-parent Maud Blackford.

He is survived by sisters, Charlene Hildebrand of Logan and Shelia Blackford of Hill City; nephew David Hildebrand of Logan, nieces Susan Dilbeck of Great Bend, Karen Hildebrand of Logan and Nancy Brown of Manhattan; two great nephews, six great nieces; nine great great nephews and four great great nieces.

Services will be held at Stinemetz Funeral Home in Hill City on Tuesday, December 27 at 2:00 P.M.

Robert 'Rob' Blackford

Alan Wayne Marietta, 70, passed away at home on December 22, 2022. He
 was born to C. Wayne and Odetta (Long) Marietta on May 10, 1952, in 
Oberlin, Kansas.

A 1970 graduate of Decatur Community 
Junior/Senior High School, Alan attended Kansas State University, 
majoring in accounting. Alan married his high school sweetheart Judith 
(Schreiber) in Oberlin on August 12, 1972.

Commissioned
 as a 2nd lieutenant in the United States Army in 1974, Alan served at 
Ft. Knox, Kentucky; Ft. Carson, Colorado; and Weisbaden Air Force Base, 
Germany. Alan earned Airborne wings and a Ranger tab in his time in the 
Army. During his service, Alan earned the National Defense Service Medal
 and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Serving on the 
front lines of the Cold War at The Fulda Gap, Germany, Alan forged 
friendships that have lasted decades with men who served alongside him 
and their wives who have since settled across the country and supported 
each other as they raised families and more recently welcomed 
grandchildren.

Alan and Judy returned from Germany 
after his discharge in 1979 to establish a homestead in Decatur County. 
They welcomed three daughters and a son to their home: Loni (Jensen), 
Leah (Carreño), and twins Bret and Lora.

Since retiring
 from various professional capacities, Alan enjoyed his 50-yard line 
"high enough I can see the whole field" football tickets at Bill Snyder 
Family Stadium; riding his Harley; time spent with his family, 
grandchildren, and friends; and local and statewide American Legion 
activities. Alan was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church of 
Oberlin, serving in many roles.

Alan was preceded in 
death by his father, C. Wayne Marietta, and daughter, Lora Elizabeth 
Marietta. Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Judith; 
daughters, Loni of El Dorado, KS and Leah (Travis) of Puyallup, WA; son,
 Bret (Angela) of Oberlin; granddaughters, Alaxis Jensen and Charlie 
Marietta and grandsons Liam Carreño and Austin Marietta; his mother, 
Odetta (Long) of Cañon City, CO; his brother John and his wife Pam of 
Cañon City, CO; his sister-in-law Marcia Emig and her husband Richard of
 Goodland, KS and many nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members
 and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am 
Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oberlin. 
Burial with military honors will follow at Oberlin Cemetery. Visitation 
will be from 1-7:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, at the funeral home with the
 family greeting friends from 5-7:00 pm.

made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 70, or the Lora

Alan Wayne Marietta

Randall R. "Randy" Sangster, age 73, of Oakley, passed away on Friday, 
December 23, 2022, at the Citizens Medical Center, Colby, Kansas. Randall
 Ray Sangster was born on June 10th, 1949, in Ashland, KS to Robert and 
Margaret Sangster. Raised in Protection, KS on a family dairy farm with 
his sister Marilyn (Charles) Huslig and two brothers Rodney (Sharon) and
 Jeffrey Sangster. Randy graduated from Protection High School in 1967 
as Valedictorian of his class. After graduation, he attended Wichita 
State University and Bethel College before moving to Loveland, Co and 
becoming an assistant manager at a Duckwalls. Later, Randy moved to 
Sharon Springs, KS to work on a family farm. While living in Sharon 
Springs, Randy had the opportunity to work under Landmark for the 
revaluation of property in the state of Kansas leading him to become the
 county appraiser for numerous counties and opening Sunflower Appraisal.
 Randy’s favorite part of being an appraiser was the agricultural side, 
he spent many hours driving on country roads. Randy thought that if a 
dirt road took him somewhere there was no need for a highway. Randy 
moved to Oakley in 1998 when he married his wife, Pat (Close) where he 
resided until his death. Randy had three daughters, Shari (Dave) 
Oren, Suzanne (Jason) Schielke and Staci (Vince) Weigel. In 1998, Randy 
gained three more children through marriage, Matthew (Danielle) 
Bertrand, Samantha (Shaelum) Barnett, and Stacy (Troy) Tauber. Randy
 spent his free time with his 12 grandchildren, horses and his beloved 
dogs - Fred, Sadie, and StarBella. He enjoyed spending time down at the 
farm and listening to his favorite song Let It Be Christmas, which he 
played all year long. Randy believed that Christmas was not a season but
 could be whenever someone needed something anytime of the year. Randy
 was proceeded in death by his parents, Robert and Margaret Sangster, 
father-in-law Stuart Close and his sister-in-law Sharon Sangster. He is 
survived by his wife Pat of the home, his 6 children, 12 grandchildren, 3
 siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Randy had the best 
personality, always “peachy” as he would say, if anyone would ask him 
how he was doing. Always polite and thoughtful of other’s feelings, he 
was slow tempered and a very smart man in every aspect of life. Randy 
will be greatly missed by all. Memorial donations can be made out

Ruth “Evalyn” Wilson was born May 13, 1938, in the family house in Sonora, TX to Thomas Jefferson Wall and Viola Elizabeth (Turner) Wall.&nbsp; She passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Long Term Care, WaKeeney, at the age of 84.&nbsp;

Evalyn grew up in Sonora, TX, and moved to WaKeeney to be close to her sister Pearl, where she met Vernon “Dick” Wilson.&nbsp; On January 16, 1960, Evalyn married Dick Wilson in WaKeeney at the home of Alvina and Howard Wilson, to this union, they were blessed with four children, and they made their home in WaKeeney. She was employed at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk for 25 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her love for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was apparent and always had a special place in her heart.&nbsp; She was often referred to as “A” by her Texas nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Among her favorite hobbies were going to auctions, reading, gardening, playing cards, and particularly bridge.&nbsp; She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Epsilon Sigma Sorority.&nbsp;

Gary Wayne Boy, age 68 years, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on 
Saturday morning, December 17, 2022, at Meridian Rehabilitation and 
Health Care Center in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; Gary was born on August 16, 1954,&nbsp; at Sterling, Kansas to Lawrence and Frances (Fisher) Boy.&nbsp; He farmed 
near Raymond, Kansas and later worked for Tim Fischer farming near St. 
John, Kansas.&nbsp; Gary loved both crop work and livestock with a passion.&nbsp; 
He also loved to play Bingo, and had a great sense of humor while being 
very protective of his family and friends.

Survivors include three sisters:&nbsp; Janet (&amp; John) Hutchinson of 
San Angelo, Texas, and Carolyn Valenzuela and Anna M. Boy, both of Great
 Bend, Kansas; thirteen nieces and nephews:&nbsp; Rodger, Chris, and Roy 
Woosley, Jamey Perkins, Susan Valenciana, Benjamin,&nbsp;Josh, Miquel, and 
Andrew Valenzuela, Ashley and Chris Childers, and Jordan and Marissa 
Boy; several great-nieces and great-nephews.&nbsp; Gary was preceded in death
 by his parents and a younger brother, Brian E. Boy on October 12, 2022.

Cremation has been chosen and there will be a Memorial Service and 
inurnment held at a later date.&nbsp; The family requests that Memorial 
Contributions be designated to the Gary W. Boy Funeral Expense Fund with

Gary Wayne Boy

Donald J. Wellbrock, 85, of Hays passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

He was born Dec. 18, 1937, at Victoria to Herman and Celestine “Sally” (Dreiling) Wellbrock. He married Norma Lee (Kuhn) on Nov. 8, 1958, in Victoria.

He was a welder and pipe fitter for over 40 years. He started in Plainville, as a welder for a few years then worked at Hays Machine Works. He worked and then retired from Kendall Inc. as a welder and pipe fitter throughout Kansas at schools, hospitals and large industrial construction buildings. He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #441 of Wichita.

Don grew up south of Victoria on the family farm and helped with the farming over the years and was a 1956 graduate of Victoria High School. He was a member of the Victoria 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, the Victoria 4th Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus, a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, and a former homebound communion minister.

Paul Peter Grabbe, age 75 of Hays passed away on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

He was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Hays to John C. and Josephine (Quint) Grabbe.

Paul retired from Enersys Battery Plant, grew up in Hays, and was a 1966 graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy class of 1966. He loved his girls and wanted to spend as much time with them as he could. Together they enjoyed many sporting events, which included all TMP and Fort Hays sports.

He never missed watching a San Francisco 49ers football or an Atlanta Braves baseball game. He loved to listen to local German music, especially Jimmy Dee and The Fabulous Destination, and music at his church, Celebration Community Church. He lived at Centennial Towers for the last six years and enjoyed that community of friends very much. He loved playing cards, watching football and having social events at Centennial Towers.

Paul is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Smith and husband, Andrew, (grandchildren Gracie and Anthony) of Hays; Kayleen Walters and husband, Mike (grandchildren McKaylla and Thomas) of Hays; Shannon Sanders of Hays; his sister, Rosemarie Grabbe Fischer, of Washington, Mo.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Marvin Richard Grabbe; and his sister, Patricia Marie Allen.

The memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601 with Pastor Brant Rice officiating. Inurnment will follow. Inurnment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays.

Ruth “Evalyn” Wilson was born May 13, 1938, in the family house in Sonora, Texas, to Thomas Jefferson Wall and Viola Elizabeth (Turner) Wall.&nbsp; She passed away on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, at the Trego County Lemke Memorial Long Term Care, WaKeeney, at the age of 84.&nbsp;

Evalyn grew up in Sonora and moved to WaKeeney to be close to her sister Pearl, where she met Vernon “Dick” Wilson. On Jan. 16, 1960, Evalyn married Dick Wilson in WaKeeney at the home of Alvina and Howard Wilson, to this union, they were blessed with four children, and they made their home in WaKeeney. She was employed at the Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk for 25 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was apparent and always had a special place in her heart. She was often referred to as “A” by her Texas nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Among her favorite hobbies were going to auctions, reading, gardening, playing cards, and particularly bridge. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Epsilon Sigma Sorority.&nbsp;

the cement finishers union when he was 18 years old.

He married Norma E. Copner on December 26, 1954, at Coeur d’Alene, 
Idaho.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Garfield.&nbsp; Mr. Lewis was a 
concrete finisher and had worked on many area dam projects.&nbsp;&nbsp; He had 
also worked for Lydig Construction Company in Pullman where he worked on
 many campus buildings.&nbsp; Robert and Norma also farmed 80 acres in the 
Garfield area.

He was a member of the Garfield Christian Church, Local #72 Cement 
Finishers Union in Spokane; the LaDow Grange, and the Garfield Gun Club.

Survivors include three sons, Clay Lewis of Potlatch, ID, Alan Lewis 
of Garfield, WA, and Jeffrey Lewis of Los Altos, CA; a foster daughter, 
Patricia Weber of Hays, Kansas; a brother, John Lewis of Spokane, 
WA; sisters Penny Gilchrist of Colfax, WA and Patricia Franklin of Iola,
 Kansas; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons. He was preceded in death
 by his wife Norma and a sister Linda Marlow.

Robert L. Lewis

Zachary Paul “Zach” Bealer, 33, passed away on December 21, 2022, in 
Geary Co., Kan. He was born on September 25, 1989, in Great Bend., Kan.,
 to Richard “Rick” and Ruth (Schiller) Bealer.

A Kansas City, Mo., resident, Zach had recently joined the law firm 
of Martinez Immigration Law, focusing his practice on family-based and 
humanitarian visas and representing clients in immigration court. He was
 a 2008 graduate from Great Bend High School, a 2012 graduate with 
Distinctions from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in 
Anthropology, and a 2021 graduate from Washburn University School of Law
 with Dean’s List Honors and as a recipient of the Irvine E. Ungerman 
Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice as a student intern in the 
Family Justice and Immigration Clinic. While in law school, Zach held 
various positions as a small group leader, a research assistant, a 
teaching assistant, was selected as a Student Fellow for the Equal 
Justice Works Rural Summer Legal Corps, and was a former Notes Editor 
for the Washburn Law Journal.

Between receiving his collegiate degrees, Zach served as a medical 
interpreter in Guatemala and as an AmeriCorps member in Lawrence, Kan. 
Three years of this time was spent in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, 
becoming fluent in Spanish and immersed in the culture, fueling his 
passion and goal to “interact with immigrants, listen to their stories, 
and fight for the rights of those who often face an uphill battle”.

Survivors include his mother, Ruth Bealer and significant other, John
 Makings, of Great Bend; his father, Rick Bealer and significant other, 
Donna Becker, of Great Bend; a sister, Nicole (Billy) Jacks of Colorado 
Springs, Colo.; two nieces, Anna and Rachel Jacks; an uncle and aunt, 
Paul and Lynn Schiller of Great Bend, their children Lisa Gwin, Jenni 
Bauer and their families, Jeremy, McKenzie and Cole Gwin, and Trent, 
Weston and Tyson Bauer; cousin, Loretta Kirmer; an aunt Sherry Holloway 
of North Carolina, her children, Adam Holloway, Whitney Meyers, Courtney

Anthropology, and a 2021 graduate from Washburn University School of Law
 with Dean’s List Honors and as a recipient of the Irvine E. Ungerman 
Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice as a student intern in the 
Family Justice and Immigration Clinic. While in law school, Zach held 
various positions as a small group leader, a research assistant, a 
teaching assistant, was selected as a Student Fellow for the Equal 
Justice Works Rural Summer Legal Corps, and was a former Notes Editor 
for the Washburn Law Journal.Between receiving his collegiate degrees, Zach served as a medical 
interpreter in Guatemala and as an AmeriCorps member in Lawrence, Kan. 
Three years of this time was spent in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, 
becoming fluent in Spanish and immersed in the culture, fueling his 
passion and goal to “interact with immigrants, listen to their stories, 
and fight for the rights of those who often face an uphill battle”.Survivors include his mother, Ruth Bealer and significant other, John
 Makings, of Great Bend; his father, Rick Bealer and significant other, 
Donna Becker, of Great Bend; a sister, Nicole (Billy) Jacks of Colorado 
Springs, Colo.; two nieces, Anna and Rachel Jacks; an uncle and aunt, 
Paul and Lynn Schiller of Great Bend, their children Lisa Gwin, Jenni 
Bauer and their families, Jeremy, McKenzie and Cole Gwin, and Trent, 
Weston and Tyson Bauer; cousin, Loretta Kirmer; an aunt Sherry Holloway 
of North Carolina, her children, Adam Holloway, Whitney Meyers, Courtney
 Timony, Brandon Seek.&nbsp; Significant other, Bao Vincent Ho of Wichita, 
Kan.; and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his twin 
brother, Ryan; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Joyce Schiller; and

Zachary Paul 'Zach' Bealer

Lynn Alice (Lambert) Murphy was laid to rest wrapped in a sunflower 
quilt made by her grandmother at the Thornburg Eminence Cemetery in 
Thornburg, Kansas.  She died on December 19, 2022, and was committed to 
the earth on what would have been her 87th birthday, December 20, 2022. 
 Lynn was the eldest of three daughters born to Treva (Ogle) Lambert and
 (Jesse) Clarence Lambert.

From the time she could 
walk, she preferred helping with farm work rather than housework.  She 
excelled in her studies at the country school one mile from her home and
 ‘in town’ at Smith Center High School.  She graduated at the top of her
 high school class.  On May 16, 1953, shortly after graduation she 
married classmate, Patt Murphy.

Patt and Lynn raised 
four children in Herington, Kansas.  She longed to work in the medical 
field and found success as a dental assistant.  Later, working long 
hours and using clever business and investment skills she poured her 
resources and talent into small business ownership.  She owned and 
managed Lynn’s Youth Fashion, clothing stores located in Herington, 
McPherson and Salina, Kansas, for over three decades. In retirement she 
worked as a business manager for her husband’s small business, American 
Indian Art Center in Abilene, Kansas.

Lynn had an eye 
for fashion.  She was a voracious reader.  She also enjoyed square and 
round dancing, playing bridge, gardening and travel.  She had a deep 
love for her family and was extremely proud of her children’s, 
grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s accomplishments-especially 
the young women in her family who had the opportunity to achieve what 
simply wasn’t possible for a young Kansas farm girl in the 1950s.

Lynn
 was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Michael Murphy and 
Dennis (King) Murphy and son-in-law David Lewerenz.  She is survived by 
her husband of Queen Creek, AZ, two daughters, Patrice Lewerenz of 
Denver, CO and Deborah (Steve) Ebke of Daykin, NE, fourteen 
grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, and sisters Ardyus 
Blickenstaff of Smith Center and Mary Balch of Hickman, NE.

Verle
 Lee Mendenhall was born August 12, 1934, on the family farm in rural 
Gove County, to Leslie Lee and Marie (Hockersmith) Mendenhall. He passed
 away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Logan County Senior Living, 
Oakley, at the age of 88.

Verle
 attended and graduated from Gove High School, Gove, KS. After 
graduation, he started working on the family farm and continued farming 
and ranching for the remainder of his life. On May 24, 1953, Verle 
married Ramona Mae Noel in Gove, KS, and to this union, they were 
blessed with four sons. In 1968 he moved to Colorado for a brief stint 
to continue his love for farming and ranching then returned to the 
family farm in 1973.

His
 love for hunting, fishing, and boating were among his favorite hobbies,
 he “taught” or pulled countless kids behind his boat introducing them 
to the sport of water skiing. Verle was a pro at building terraces, 
building many miles for himself and others. In 2003 Verle and Romona 
held the coveted honor of being King and Queen at Old Settlers Day in 
Gove.

 is survived by four sons, Allen Mendenhall, Gove; Steve (Reatha) 
Mendenhall, Cheyenne Wells, CO; David Mendenhall, Gove; Daniel (Roseann)

William E. 'Bill' Thompson

Melvin V. Martinek, 88, died Tuesday, December 20th at his home in 
Garden City, KS. He was born February 18th, 1934, in Silver Lake, 
Kansas, the son of Vince and Mary (Dvorak) Martinek. 
He grew up on a farm and held the highest regard for farmers and 
agriculture. After graduating from Silver Lake High School in 1952, Mel
 spent time in New Mexico working in an ore mine and awaiting his name 
to be called for the draft. He went through training at Fort Knox and 
served in the Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963. Mel received a 
Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State 
University in 1961. He accepted a job with Metropolitan Life Insurance 
Company as an Ag Investments Consultant that he kept until he retired in
 1999. Mel lived in St. Joe, Mo., Silver Lake, Manhattan, Colby and 
Garden City KS. Proud of his Czech heritage, Mel loved polka dancing 
and kolaches. He was known for his wise counsel, financial knowledge, 
green thumb and love for his KSU Wildcats. 
Mel’s faith was a cornerstone in his life. He was on the church board, 
attended Sunday school and participated in Bible studies. He valued 
volunteerism and served in countless ways in the church and community. 
He was member of the Shriners, Masonic Lodge, and the Garden City Zoo 
Board. 
On July 27th, 1969, he married the love of his life, Leah Hudson, in 
Colby KS. They were married 53 years and enjoyed a lifetime of love, 
dancing and world travel. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Melany &amp; husband Mark Rude of Garden City, KS
 and Melinda &amp; husband Barry Smith of Fort Collins CO, and his 
sister Marjorie McDaniel of Rossville KS. Mel had five grandchildren: 
Noah Rude &amp; Wife Valery, Caleb Rude, Caitlyn Rude, Jack Smith and 
Charlie Smith, and one great-grandson, Ezra Rude. Mel is preceded in 
death by his parents and brother, Marvin Martinek. 
A celebration of Mel’s life will be held at 3:00 on Friday, December 
23rd, at Turning Point Church of the Nazarene, Garden City, with Rev. 
Nathan Haeck officiating. There will be time to visit with family 
immediately following the service. The family suggests memorials to

Melvin V. Martinek

Michael Charles Mooney, 67, died December 17, 2022, at Clara Barton 
Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born July 29, 1955, in Ellinwood, 
Kansas, the son of Charles and Beatrice (Lubbers) Mooney.&nbsp; Mike 
graduated from Bushton High School in 1973.

On December 24, 2004, he married Rena Jean Glenn in Hoisington, Kansas. She survives.

A lifetime resident of Rice and Barton Counties, Mike mainly worked 
as a pumper in the oil field, a job he loved. He was also a mechanic and
 owner of Mike’s Place a bar in the rural Bushton area.&nbsp;

Mike’s hobbies included racing of all kinds, especially dirt tracks 
and mudding, often helping friends in demolition derbies just for the 
fun of it.&nbsp; He had a patient ability to make and restore clocks and 
pocketwatches with tiny gears and mechanisms with exact precision. Mike 
could usually be found enjoying time with friends at his favorite place,
 The Odin Store.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rena Mooney of the home; a 
daughter, Jessica Babcock and husband Brent of Lewis; three 
grandchildren, Presten, Austin, and Jayden; a sister, Patricia Hinojos 
of Cassidy; and nephews, Miguel and Jose Hinojos, both of Cassidy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beatrice Mooney.

Remembrance Service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel.&nbsp;

as a pumper in the oil field, a job he loved. He was also a mechanic and
 owner of Mike’s Place a bar in the rural Bushton area.&nbsp;Mike’s hobbies included racing of all kinds, especially dirt tracks 
and mudding, often helping friends in demolition derbies just for the 
fun of it.&nbsp; He had a patient ability to make and restore clocks and 
pocketwatches with tiny gears and mechanisms with exact precision. Mike 
could usually be found enjoying time with friends at his favorite place,
 The Odin Store.He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Rena Mooney of the home; a 
daughter, Jessica Babcock and husband Brent of Lewis; three 
grandchildren, Presten, Austin, and Jayden; a sister, Patricia Hinojos

Captain Cory R. Applebee, United States Navy, Retired, 50, of 
Jacksonville, Florida, and former Russell, Kansas resident, died on 
Sunday, December 18, 2022, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, 
Florida.

Cory was born on September 30, 1972, in Creve Coeur, Missouri, the 
son of Monty D. Applebee and Linda L. (Prochaska) Applebee.&nbsp; He grew up 
in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in 1991. 
After high school he attended and graduated from the University of 
Kansas, in Lawrence, Kansas. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an 
officer in the United States Navy and served his country faithfully for 
26 years. While in the Navy, he received his Master’s of Human Resources
 from Webster University. He retired as a Captain in the Navy in March 
2021.&nbsp; Cory was united in marriage to Stacey Yvonne Hunnicutt on June 
23, 2001, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Cory and Stacey were blessed with three 
children Amanda, Colin and Riley.

Cory is a life member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 in Russell, Kansas. He
 was an avid Mill Valley High School football and Dallas Cowboy fan. 
Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially 
loved spending time with his children and attending their many sporting 
events.

Surviving family include his wife Stacey of the home, his daughter 
Amanda L. Cassidy, husband Stevie and granddaughter Ryleigh Cassidy of 
Jacksonville, FL, son Colin R. Applebee and daughter Riley D. Applebee 
both of the home; father Monty D. Applebee and wife Diana of Russell, 
Kansas; mother Linda L. (Prochaska) Applebee of Russell, Kansas; brother
 Joel T. Applebee and wife Amanda, nephews Haden and Holden and niece 
Lola of Shawnee, KS.

A celebration of Cory’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, 
January 14, 2022, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell, 
Kansas.&nbsp; Interment will follow at the Russell City Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation
 will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on Friday, January 13, 2022, at the 
mortuary with family greeting guests from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. Friday 
evening.&nbsp;

 In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the Applebee 
Children’s College Fund and sent in care of the mortuary to 610 N. Maple

Clyde M. Stone, 89, died December 18, 2022, at St. Anthony Hospital in
 Lakewood, Colorado.&nbsp; He was born on March 16, 1933, at Geuda Springs, 
the son of Louis W. and Dorismae (Graham) Stone.

Clyde grew up in Tribune and was a graduate of Greeley County High 
School. He married Mereta Morgan at Tribune. Clyde served in the US 
Navy. They moved to Dodge City in 1966 and have resided here since. 
Clyde was a route driver for Rainbow Bread for 30 years before retiring.
 He was active in the Dodge City Police Auxiliary.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Mereta Stone of Dodge City; a son, 
Lance Stone of Dodge City; a daughter, Mona Warren of Ellinwood; five 
grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by
 a daughter, Vicki Mercado and grandson, Justin Mercado.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 28,

Maureen Jones, 89, died Monday, December 19, 2022, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin.

She was born September 18, 1933, in Moigh, Ballymahon County, 
Longford, Ireland, the daughter of Thomas and Julia Flood McCormack.&nbsp; 
She emigrated to the United States in 1951 and was engaged in religious 
vocations, earning her degrees from Marymount College and Fort Hays 
State University.&nbsp; An educator for 42 years, she taught in parochial and
 public schools in the Salina and Dodge City Diocese and USD 443, 
retiring in 1996.

She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, and the Retired Teachers Association.

She married Fred T. Jones Jr. in Dodge City, Kansas, in 1972, and he 
preceded her in death in 1987. Survivors include one son, Fred Jones, 
and wife, Suzie, of Lakin, Kansas.&nbsp; Grandchildren, Cora Jones and Conor 
Jones, a sister-in-law, Nila Hartman of Ft. Collins, Colorado as well as
 numerous nieces and nephews at home and abroad. She valued education 
and had many lifelong friendships with her fellow educators that she 
treasured.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, John, 
Jimmy, and Noel, and four sisters, Bridget, Lily, Patricia, and 
Bernadette.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 
Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.&nbsp; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am 
Wednesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City with Fr.
 John Stang presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Greencrest Memorial 
Gardens, Dodge City. Friends may call from noon to 7:00 pm Tuesday at
