Coradell Hickman was born to Grover Cleveland and Cora Thacker in Gove, Kansas on July 22,1930. Coradell was one of seven children (Grover, Price, Annabele, Arlene, Mary and James. 

Coradell moved to Luray when she was 12 and graduated from Luray High School in 1948. 

During this time she met her future husband and love of her life, Clinton Hickman, also from Luray. For over 50 years they were inseparable raising two children; Randall Hickman of Vista, California and Rodney Hickman of Riverside, California. Coradell’s mother-in-law (Edith Hickman) lived with Coradell and Clinton for over 30 years where Coradell, in later years, provided care and loving support.

For over 20 years she owned and operated the Bluebird Beauty Salon in Vista, California in which she thoroughly enjoyed meeting and visiting her clients. Coradell and Clinton briefly moved back to Luray in the early 1970s where Rodney graduated from Luray High School.

In the late 1970s Coradell and Clinton moved back to Vista, California where she began work as an office manager for Las Villas De Carlsbad (Retirement Center) which she enjoyed for over 20 years.

Clinton and Coradell were true partners in life and in each others endeavors. While Coradell was working at what she liked Clinton worked for San Diego County as a construction foreman for over 20 years and then went on to success as a real estate investor and the owner of a street sweeping company which had contracts with five major cities in San Diego County.

There is an adage that goes “You can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl.” No statement was more true for Coradell. She loved Kansas and all the friends and family that lived and stayed there. For the past several years, Coradell had weekly telephone visits with family and friends which she greatly enjoyed.

Coradell is survived by her son Randall, spouse Ginger and grandson Rory Mark; as well as Rodney Hickman, spouse Patricia and grandson Dakota. She is also survived by her brother James Thacker and his wife Sylvia of Granite Bay, California. As well, she is survived by many nephews and nieces from both the Thacker and Hickman Families.

To sum up the life of Coradell Hickman she was a loving, classy, hardworking, and caring woman who lived a full life and now joins Clinton (her beloved partner in life).

Coradell was taken by the lord on the evening of November 5, 2023 at a skilled nursing facility in Encinitas, California to which she was taken after her stroke five weeks earlier.

Coradell fought and gave it all she could to beat the stroke; however, she was finally beaten by COVID.

Coradell Hickman

Kimball “Kim” Lynn Brainard, age 72 of Plainville, KS, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS. He was born February 28, 1951 in Colby, KS to Dorothy (Sloan) and Jesse Brainard, of Selden, KS.

Kim attended Selden Grade School and Hoxie High School, graduating in 1969. He attended the Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School in Goodland, KS, graduating in 1971. 

He enlisted in the Air Force, serving in the 436 Transport Squadron at Dover Air Force Base as a Special Vehicle Repairman for the C5 airplane from 1972-1974 after attending Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX in 1971. 

He married Kathy Spresser in 1972, later divorcing. He married Eleanor Wherry in 1997.

Kim worked in the agricultural field, farming with family. He joined the Co-op system and became a petroleum manager, serving at various locations in Kansas, Iowa, and Colorado before retiring in 2016. He enjoyed woodworking and spent time in his shop creating wood items. He enjoyed socializing with friends and family.

Kim is survived by his wife Eleanor Wherry of Plainville; his daughter, Beth (Brainard) Harmon and her husband, Trevor Harmon, and his grandchildren Chloe Harmon and Toby Harmon of Bennington, KS; his stepdaughter, Rebecca Rowlison and her husband, Sam Martin, of Fort Collins, CO; his sister Sharon Karns of Colorado Springs, CO; his brother Tim Brainard and wife Cindy of Phoenix, AZ; and his twin sister, Camille Applegate, of Denver, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Dorothy (Sloan) Brainard, and his brother, Robert Brainard.

Memorial services to celebrate Kim’s life and honor his memory will be held at the Selden United Methodist Church in Selden, KS 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 10, 2023. Inurnment with military honors will follow in the Selden Cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Kimball 'Kim' L. Brainard

Sylvia Ann Campbell Reinking was born on June 8, 1940, on a farm in rural Portis, Kansas. She passed away November 7, 2023, at her home. She was the fifth of seven children born to John Scott and Iva Marie Hendrickson Campbell. 

Sylvia was educated in a one-room rural school in Osborne County and graduated from Osborne High School in 1958.

Sylvia was baptized as an infant and was a member of the Mayflower EUB Church. 

In 1961 she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in Downs, Kansas. She has been a member of the American Lutheran Church in Smith Center, Kansas since 1962. Sylvia had a very strong faith in God and her service to God was important to her. She served as a Sunday School and Bible school teacher when her children were young. Sylvia was very active in the women’s organization serving at the local and conference levels and served on the church council.

On December 6, 1959, she was united in marriage to Edward A. Reinking. To this union, two sons were born, Vernon Edward and Bradley Scott.

Ed and Sylvia moved to Smith Center in April of 1962 where they resided until her death. At the time of their marriage Ed and Sylvia lived on a farm north of Cawker City and moved to Smith Center a few years later.

Sylvia’s family was very precious and important to her. One of her favorite activities was to entertain her granddaughters Erin and Lacie and friends over for tea parties. She made porcelain dolls for the girls as they would dress up in old clothes, shoes, hats, and jewelry as they had tea with their dollies. With her grandsons Blaine and Grant, she would play baseball, football, basketball, and all the things little boys liked to do. Sylvia would stand in one place, put the football on the ground and call out “touchdown” which was to the delight of the little boys. When it snowed, she would take the children outside, go snow sledding and teach them the game of Fox and Geese. As the children grew, Ed and Sylvia followed many ball games in the summer and fall, sometimes traveling many miles to be a part of the lives of their grandchildren.

Sylvia was very active in serving her community. She was a member of the Garden Lore Club, Dollies at Home on the Range, Bible study, a charter member of the Red Hat Society and Prairie Treasure Quilt Guild. She volunteered many years with the American Cancer Society and Meals on Wheels.

She is proceeded in death by her parents John and Iva Campbell, two sisters, Shirley Hays and Irene Macy, two bothers, Wendell Campbell and Bill Campbell.

 She is survived by her husband Ed of the home, sons Vernon and wife Bert of Smith Center, Bradley and wife Jenny of Spring Hill Kansas, grandchildren Erin Weinman and husband Jon of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Lacie Mostek and husband Brent of St. Paul, Nebraska, Blaine Reinking of Eldorado, Kansas and Grant Reinking and friend Grace Truelove of Kansas City, Kansas, and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by siblings Charlene Tuxhorn of Smith Center, Junior Campbell and wife Marge of Portis, Kansas.

Tracy Lynn Ellegood, of Colby, was born January 13, 1967. He passed away November 5, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby, at the age of 56.

Tracy attended Oakley and Monument Schools and went on to attend Cloud County Community College. 

There he met the love of his life, Tiffany Diane Peck. To this union three children, Brittany (Jeff) Sekavec, Max (Renee) Ellegood and Bailey (Koda) Ellegood.

Tracy worked in several fields but found his niche with Western Plains Energy 20 years ago. Tracy loved his work. 

He loved football, especially the Raiders, and had recently gotten to tour their entire stadium. Additionally, he had a knack for his savvy and non-traditional moves, winning many fantasy football championships, finding joy and friendship along the way. He also enjoyed playing cards with many friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Tiffany, brother Barry and father-in-law Merlin Peck.

Tracy is survived by his parents, Ben and Donnette (Nelson) Ellegood; three children; two brothers, Shane and Lance; mother-in-law Bonnie Ross and his biggest joy, his grandson Nik.

A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, 2023, at the Gateway Fellowship in Oakley, KS.

Rosie B. Staab, age 88, of Sheridan, Colorado, formerly of Hays, Kansas passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Cherrelyn Assisted Living Center in Littleton, Colorado.

Rosie was born February 2, 1935 in Victoria, Kansas to Fidelis and Philomena (Knoll) Kreutzer. 

On June 13, 1953 she married Alfred J. “Al” Staab. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2006. 

Rosie was a homemaker and enjoyed word puzzles in her spare time. She was a past member of St. Joseph’s Church in Hays.

She is survived by three sons, Duane (Jolene) Staab of Kersey, Colorado, Alfred (Susan) Staab, Jr. of Westminster, Co., Jeffrey (Michele)Staab of Clovis, California; a daughter, Karen Priefert of Littleton, Colorado; a brother, Francis (Vivian) Kreutzer of Hays; a sister, Melva Marmion of Sarasota, Florida; nine grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, seven brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will be Sunday November 12, 2023 5:00 p.m. – 7 :00 p.m. with a combine parish vigil and rosary service at 6:30 p.m., all at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock’s Chapel, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

Lawrence "Lawdy" Herman, age 87 of Ellis, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at HaysMed.&nbsp;

Lawdy was born on August 9, 1936, on the family farmstead in Trego County, Kansas to Nick and Anna (Lang) Herman.

Lawdy was a lifelong resident of the area and graduated from Ellis High School in 01956. 

On June 20, 1959 he married JoAnn Gabel, but later divorced.

Lawdy was a legend all his own, always living life to the fullest. He was always happy and wanted others to be “happy, happy, happy.” 

He dedicated many years of his life to working in the oilfield, a job that he took great pride in.&nbsp;

He was a lover of polka, pinochle, golfing, and hunting. However, his greatest joy came from being with his beloved friends and family. He liked his beer, he never wanted anyone to be thirsty. He never let a kid come into his house without offering a pop or popsicle. 

He was a devoted Catholic and faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.&nbsp;Lawdy was a member of the Ellis Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree. 

He loved his cars, especially his ‘57 Chevy and his Roadrunner. On a nice sunny day, you could find him in “Lawdys Fun Haven” throwing shoes and by dark, playing cards. He was always surrounded by friends and family, and Jack “the bodyguard” never left his side.

He cherished his role as a father to his daughter Peggy Deutscher and his two sons, Randy Herman and Sam Herman. The importance of family was immeasurable.

Surviving him are his children, Peggy (Herman) Deutscher, Randy Herman and wife Debbie, and Sam Herman; two brothers Ervin (Sunny) Herman of Ellis and LeRoy Herman of Denver. Additionally, he leaves behind grandchildren Jared Deutscher, Bailey (Matt) Dinkel, Kiley Herman, and Jose Herman as well as great-grandchildren Hattee Deutscher, Sutton Dinkel, and Jentry Dinkel.

He is preceded in death by his parents Nick and Anna Herman; brothers Theodore, Clarence, and Louis; sisters Sr. Annice, Laurine, Lydia, Stella, Bernice, and Rita.

Services in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel; 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Sunday with a combined rosary and parish vigil at 6:30 p.m., all at the church.

Lawrence 'Lawdy' Herman

Margaret A. “Marge” Roy was born March 30, 1926, on the family farm northwest of Selden, KS to Gottfried “Fred” and Sarah “Sadie” (McDonald) Mumm. She passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Rawlins County Hospital in Atwood, KS, at the age of 97.

Marge was one of 16 children and was raised on the family farm with 12 brothers and sisters, and attended school in Selden, KS.

After high school, Marge worked in Denver, CO, and Colby where she met her future husband. She married Eugene F. “Gene” Roy from Damar, KS on October 7, 1947, in Osage, IA. He was the love of her life, and they were married for 66 years before Gene passed away on November 12, 2013. They lived in several places in Kansas, Iowa, and Missouri; and settled in Phillipsburg, KS in 1949. 

Marge was a homemaker raising five children and worked hard to make a good home for her family. She enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother. She also worked for the Phillipsburg School District for more than 30 years in the cafeteria. After retiring she and Gene moved to Atwood, KS in 1996 where they were members of the Sacred Heart Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene “Gene” Roy; her parents Sarah “Sadie” and Gottfried “Fred” Mumm; brothers, Sylvester Paul, Gottfried Bernard, Frederick “Fritz”, Hubert, Charles “Bud”, and Clement “Clem” Mumm; sisters, Juliann Mumm, Anogene “Annie” Rogers, Josephine “Jo” Douglass, Eleanor “Norie” Rogers, Alberta “Berta” Ritter, and Clara “Sis” Newton; and two grandchildren.

Margaret was a much-loved wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and took great pleasure in being with them. She was a gentle, kindhearted, generous, fun loving and determined woman that was loved by those whose life she touched.

She is survived by her three daughters, Shirley Dykes, Phoenix, AZ; Doris Chase and husband Dustin, Salina, KS and Connie Cooper and husband Mike, Atwood, KS; two sons, Duane Roy, Trinidad, CO and Mike Roy and wife Carole, Centennial, CO; 11 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; brother Kenneth “Kenny” Mumm; two sisters, Mary Dolores “Dode” Raile and Joan “Judy” and husband Gordon Smith; and sisters-in-law Gail Mumm, Vicky Mumm and Pat Mumm.

Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov 9, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood, KS, with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, KS.

Margaret A. Roy (Mumm)

Rose Marie Frieb, 94, died November 7, 2023, surrounded by her family, at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born December 15, 1928, at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Adolph and Rose (Hickey) Bahr. &nbsp;

Rose graduated from St. Ann’s Catholic School in Olmitz and then went on to receive her registered nursing degree from St. Rose School of Nursing.

On July 16, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Marion Francis Frieb at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz. To this union were blessed six children which they raised together on the farm south of Olmitz. 

Rose was a talented crafter and seamstress, making all of her kids clothing. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. She was a proud grandma and great-grandma, that will be remembered for her good cooking especially at Christmas which was her favorite holiday.

Rose was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.&nbsp;

She is survived by her six children; Carol Scheuerman (Craig) of Bison, Cathi Farha (Ned) of Wichita, Anita Hobbs (Bruce) of Mount Hope, Daniel Frieb (Teresa) of Olmitz, Timothy Frieb (Amy) of Olmitz, and Jan Frieb of Hutchinson; a brother, Eugene Bahr of Olmitz; brother-in-law, Neil Frieb of Olmitz; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Roland Bahr, and sister, Teresa “Tessie” Jilg.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home. Family will greet friends at St. Ann’s Catholic Church from 6 to 8 p.m., with vigil and rosary to begin at 7 p.m..

Michael William McConnaughy, 75, of Wichita, died November 6, 2023, at his residence. He was born August 20, 1948, in St. Joseph, MO, to James Clinton and Theda Thedinger McConnaughy.

Michael graduated from Trinity High School (Hutchinson) and attended Hutchinson Community College. 

Michael enjoyed traveling, hunting, photography, working on cars, antique shopping and was an animal lover. He loved his family, would assist anyone in need, was outgoing and selfless. Michael’s favorite phrase was “Honey, this won’t take long.”

On February 3, 1968, he married Terry Rupp in McPherson. They were blessed with two children during their 44 years of marriage. They later divorced.

Michael is survived by his son, Daniel (Juanita Norton) McConnaughy of Wichita; daughter, LoriBeth (Jonathan) McConnaughy of Wichita; grandchildren, Tristan McConnaughy of Mexia, TX, Taylor McConnaughy of Hutchinson, Dylan Oliver of Houston, TX; sisters, Patricia Bunker of Sunnyvale, CA, Peggy McConnaughy of Chico, CA, Jo Ann (Bill) Fluderer of Lenexa, KS, and Mary (Brad) VanRiette of Iola; brothers, Don (Lynn) McConnaughy of Hutchinson and John (Lisa) McConnaughy of Memphis, TN; former wife and mother of his children, Terry McConnaughy of Wichita; and partner of seven years, Janice Koontz of Wichita.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dan and Jim McConnaughy.

Michael William McConnaughy

Agnes Benita Wasinger, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at her home in Lawrence, Kansas.

She was born on April 27, 1927, to Gabe and Josie (Wolf) Rupp in Hays. 

She grew up living in their family home with her parents, one sister and seven brothers. Her sister affectionately gave her the nickname "Nitzie"&nbsp; because she couldn’t pronounce Agnes Benita. Many of their family, aunts, uncles, and cousins also lived in the neighborhood. There were huge family gatherings with lots of support and love given to all. The families were active members of their Catholic faith as members of St. Joseph’s Church.

On February 9, 1946, Nitzie married Meridith Wasinger. They lived in Ellis where they raised their three children, Mary Jo, Tom, and Mike. In 1983 she and Meridith built a home in Hays where family reunions and many spontaneous family gatherings were enjoyed by all.

Nitzie became a realtor and began a career with Dean Ellner Realty that lasted many years. Nitzie was an exceptional cook and loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Nitzie is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Heath, granddaughter, Elizabeth Heath of Lawrence and grandson, Kevin Heath (Meagan), great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Owen, Lily, and Brianna of Dublin, Ireland. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Mary Ann) Rupp and many loving sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A special thank you to her cousins Imy Leard, Kansas City and Sr. Marilyn Rupp, Wichita, for the many cards and prayers to Nitzie.

Nitzie was preceded in death by her husband, Meridith, and sons, Tom and Mike, her son-in-law, Don Heath, her parents, her sister, Mary Lou Campbell and brothers, Chuck, Don, Ernie, Dan, Bill, and Jim Rupp. May they all rest in the Peace of Christ.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. John Schmeidler officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. 

Memorials in Nitzie’s memory are suggested to St. Joseph Church.

 </figure>April 27, 1927 - November 1, 2023Agnes Benita Wasinger, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at her home in Lawrence, Kansas.She was born on April 27, 1927, to Gabe and Josie (Wolf) Rupp in Hays. She grew up living in their family home with her parents, one sister and seven brothers. Her sister affectionately gave her the nickname "Nitzie"&nbsp; because she couldn’t pronounce Agnes Benita. Many of their family, aunts, uncles, and cousins also lived in the neighborhood. There were huge family gatherings with lots of support and love given to all. The families were active members of their Catholic faith as members of St. Joseph’s Church.On February 9, 1946, Nitzie married Meridith Wasinger. They lived in Ellis where they raised their three children, Mary Jo, Tom, and Mike. In 1983 she and Meridith built a home in Hays where family reunions and many spontaneous family gatherings were enjoyed by all.Nitzie became a realtor and began a career with Dean Ellner Realty that lasted many years. Nitzie was an exceptional cook and loved spending time with her great-grandchildren.Nitzie is survived by her daughter, Mary Jo Heath, granddaughter, Elizabeth Heath of Lawrence and grandson, Kevin Heath (Meagan), great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Owen, Lily, and Brianna of Dublin, Ireland. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Mary Ann) Rupp and many loving sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.A special thank you to her cousins Imy Leard, Kansas City and Sr. Marilyn Rupp, Wichita, for the many cards and prayers to Nitzie.Nitzie was preceded in death by her husband, Meridith, and sons, Tom and Mike, her son-in-law, Don Heath, her parents, her sister, Mary Lou Campbell and brothers, Chuck, Don, Ernie, Dan, Bill, and Jim Rupp. May they all rest in the Peace of Christ.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Libbie Ann Olson, 95, passed away November 7, 2023 peacefully at River Bend Assisting Living in Great Bend, KS. &nbsp;Libbie was born in Omaha, NE on October 13, 1928, to Frank and Bozena Storch. 

She married Cedric Olson in 1951 in Omaha, NE. &nbsp;For their honeymoon, they traveled to Great Bend, KS where they moved soon after and spent the rest of their days. &nbsp;

Libbie graduated from Nebraska State Teacher’s College in Kearney, NE in 1950 and earned her master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University in 1970. She taught one year in Omaha, NE and then 40 years in Great Bend. &nbsp;She was a kindergarten teacher at Park School for 15 years, elementary librarian for 5 years and then moved to Great Bend High School where she was the head librarian. &nbsp;She thoroughly enjoyed working with children. One of her biggest professional endeavors was establishing the modern library system for GBHS.

Libbie served as Secretary, Vice-President and President of Great Bend Chapter of National Education Association in which she was instrumental in getting equal pay for women and men teachers. &nbsp;She helped organize the Central Kansas Kindergarten Teachers Association. She received the Master Teacher Award in 1991, which she was most proud of. &nbsp;

Libbie and Ced were members of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association. They made lifelong friendships and devoted many miles supporting their daughters and their horses. They were instrumental in promoting the Barton County 4-H Horse program. 

Other professional memberships include KNEA, Kansas Association of School Librarians and Delta Kappa Gamma, PEO, Cosmopolitan Study Club and RSVP. &nbsp;

Libbie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend where she was active as a deacon, elder for the church and active on various church committees.&nbsp;

After caring for her husband Ced, she moved into Great Bend from the country and continued to pour her heart and time into her church and family. &nbsp;She was an avid traveler, visiting friends and family. &nbsp;But what she most enjoyed was the activities involving her four grandchildren. &nbsp;She could always be counted on to help with a school paper, keep the correct tennis score at their many matches and be ready with a tin of homemade cookies and coffee cake at Christmas. &nbsp;She was their biggest cheerleader, especially for educational endeavors. She was most proud of all grandchildren graduating from college and reaching their degree goals.

She will be greatly missed by two her daughters Nancy (John) Francis of Great Bend and Jane Gunn-McRae (Terry) of Topeka; four grandchildren, Lauren (Jeremiah) Jones of Lakewood, CO, Leslie (Nick) Klug of Great Bend, Garrett (Natasha) Gunn of Topeka and Morgan Francis of Hermosa Beach, CA; two stepgrandchildren, Josh (Kelly) McRae of Overland Park and Justin McRae of Eudora; four great-grandchildren, Olivia and Liam Klug of Great Bend, and William and Libbie Jones of Lakewood, CO; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Keegan and Kade McRae. &nbsp;She is also survived by brother, Dr. Vladimir (Gloria) Storch of Omaha, NE along with many nieces and nephews. 

&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sisters Dramy Smith of Grand Island, NE and Bozena Drozda of Omaha, NE. &nbsp;

The family wishes to say Thank You to River Bend and various caregivers for their loving care over the years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive guests from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, with Kathleen Luke presiding. A private family interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery.

Mark A. Reade, 67, Hays, died Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse.

He was born August 16, 1956 in Goodland, the son of Radean C. “Ray” and Phyllis (Amack) Reade. 

In 1974, he graduated from Buhler High School and he later earned an associate’s degree from Hutchinson Junior College and a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Fort Hays State University. 

For over 30 years, he was an account executive for Berlin Wheeler. 

On November 5, 2021, he was united in marriage to Sonya R. (Herrman) Garrett in Hays. 

Mark enjoyed music, a wide variety of sports, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and University of Kansas fan. 

He was an outstanding softball player and will be posthumously inducted into the USSSA Softball Hall of Fame in February of 2024. In addition to softball, Mark loved to play golf and scored his first ever hole-in-one at Carey Park Golf Course in Hutchinson. 

He possessed a deep love for his wife Sonya, his family, and his friends.

Survivors include his wife Sonya, of the home in Hays, his father, Ray Reade of Hutchinson, a son, Troy Reade and wife Kassie and their son Finley Reade of Gladstone, MO, a daughter, Baylee Reade of San Antonio, TX, a brother Ron Reade and wife Karen of Hutchinson, stepdaughters Kendahl Goetzmann and husband Brett of Manhattan, KS and Abby Garrett and fiancé Zane Nelson of Lincoln, NE, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Phyllis Reade on April 12, 2019.

A celebration of Mark’s life will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine Street. Burial will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in La Crosse, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 on Friday and from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, all at the funeral home. An additional celebration of Mark’s life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 700 E. 25th Street, in Hutchinson, Kansas.

Bonnie B. Elliott, born November 24, 1927 in Longford, Kansas, to Carrie and W.O. “Oscar” Botz,&nbsp; passed away peacefully on November 7, 2023 in Kingwood, Texas.&nbsp; Bonnie, the fourth of six children, was raised on the family farm near Longford.&nbsp;Times were tough, but love was plenty.  

Bonnie attended Longford public schools, graduating salutatorian of the class of 1945.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After high school, Bonnie attended The Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Concordia, KS, graduating as a registered nurse in 1948.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;For the next forty-four years, she worked as a nurse along with taking on the role as the first hospital administrator for the yet to be opened Republic County Hospital in 1960, a position she held until her retirement in 1990. 

Nursing for Bonnie was not just a job, but her passion. &nbsp;Even at the end of her life, she quizzed her caregivers about their training and nursing techniques. Over her career she received many professional accolades, but her favorite moments were when she could step away from her administrative duties and provide care to patients and their families.&nbsp; &nbsp;After her retirement she loved to gather with her former hospital staff to reminisce about their hospital days.&nbsp; Bonnie encouraged and assisted many of her nursing staff to further their education. &nbsp;Her impact on healthcare in Republic County is still felt today as she oversaw two major expansions to the hospital in her thirty-year career as its chief officer.

On April 17, 1949, Bonnie married LeeRoy Elliott, a union that lasted 68 years until Roy’s death, also on November 7, 2017.&nbsp; To this union three children were born: Keenan, Craig, and Lecia.&nbsp; 

Bonnie and LeeRoy made their first home on the Elliott family farm northwest of Republic, Kansas where they raised their family with strong Christian values, an appreciation for hard work, integrity, and education. &nbsp;In 1984, LeeRoy and Bonnie moved west of Belleville into their dream home that Roy lovingly designed and built for her. In 2021, Bonnie moved to Kingwood, Texas to be closer to her daughter.

Bonnie was known for her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens where she spent hours planting, weeding, harvesting, canning, and freezing the fruits of her labor. From 1994 – 2010, Bonnie and LeeRoy spent their winters in south Texas where they made wonderful memories.&nbsp; Bonnie learned to play Mahjong, bringing her love of the game back to her friends in Belleville, many who are still playing and teaching others the game today. Bonnie was an avid reader and hardly a week passed without a trip to her beloved Belleville Public Library. During the winter months she always had a sewing project going, creating wonderful handicrafts for her friends and family.&nbsp; 

Bonnie was a proud member of PEO Chapter JA, Republic United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women’s group in Republic, Kansas.

Bonnie was predeceased by her husband, LeeRoy, her beloved son-in-in law, Stuart Chaney, her parents, siblings, and their spouses: Frances (Don) Hoffman, Evelyn (Cliff) Asher, Dorothy (Calvin) Bergmeier, Wayne (Delores) Botz, and James (Shirley) Botz as well as numerous brothers and sisters in-law on the Elliott side of the family.

Bonnie is survived by her children Keenan (Linda) Elliott of Belleville, Kansas, Craig (Jeanette) Elliott of Courtland, Kansas, and Lecia Chaney of Kingwood, Texas.&nbsp; She is survived by seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren: &nbsp;Matthew (Kelsey) Elliott, Jonathan, Spencer, and Leah of Kingwood, Texas; &nbsp;Jennifer Elliott and Sophia, Solveigh, and Acacia Lang of Lawrence, Kansas;&nbsp; Michael (Bonnie) Elliott, Jack and Roman of Ft. Worth, Texas; Nathan Elliott of Salina, Kansas; Nicole (Ryan) Bays, Elliott and Penelope of Lenexa, Kansas; &nbsp;Elizabeth Chaney of Denver, Colorado, and Elliott McLain “Mac” Chaney of San Francisco, California.&nbsp; She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Verlene Veteto of Courtland, Kansas, Eleanor Elliott of Anderson, California and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Monday, November 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at the Republic Community Church, burial will follow at Lake Cemetery, rural Republic.

Pat Leroy Hawkins, age 75, of Goodland passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Topside Manor.&nbsp;

Pat was born August 18, 1948 to George and Mabel (Hicks) Hawkins in Syracuse, Kansas. 

He grew up in Towner, Colorado and graduated from Plainview High School in 1966.&nbsp; 

He worked as a farmhand in Towner until 1969 when he enlisted in the United States Army. He returned to Towner area in 1971 and worked as a heavy equipment/truck driver. 

On July 25, 1981 he married Twila Ann Appelhans in Garden City. They lived in Oakley.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brother Wayne of Texas; and numerous cousins. Preceding Pat in death are his parents and wife Twila.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be held at a later date at the Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80925. Information and condolences www.batemanfuneral.com.

Logan, KS resident, Alvin Duane Leach passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Logan Manor in Logan, KS at the age of 86.

He was born January 5, 1937 in Culbertson, NE the son of Theodore Emery and Beela Gertrude (Benjamin) Leach. &nbsp;

Alvin kept busy. &nbsp;He worked for many packing houses in McCook, NE, Fort Morgan, CO, and Denver, CO.

In 1969, while in Denver, he joined the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

He moved to Fort Collins, CO and owned a motel, gas station, and a trailer court. &nbsp;While there he became an Elder in the Church. &nbsp;He eventually sold the motel and purchased an equestrian center and did a little farming.
