But on Sunday, Coen premiered his first documentary, “Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind,” at the Cannes Film Festival, a movie that was announced only when the festival lineup was last month. 

The film, which A24 will distribute later this year, is a blistering portrait of the rock ‘n’ roll and country legend, made almost entirely with archival footage, with riveting extended performances instead of talking heads. 'Top Gun' and Tom Cruise return to the danger zone

(AP) -- The man who designed the spacecraft in the “Star Wars” films has died. Colin Cantwell was 90. 

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Cantwell’s partner, Sierra Dall, confirmed that he died at his home in Colorado on Saturday. 

Cantwell designed the prototypes for the X-wing Starfighter, TIE fighter and Death Star. He also worked on films including “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” and “WarGames.” Cantwell was born in San Francisco in 1932. 

Before working on Hollywood films, Cantwell attended the University of California, Los Angeles where he got a degree in animation. 

He also attended Frank Lloyd Wright’s School of Architecture.

The 31-year-old Grammy award-winner posted a picture of baby socks on his Instagram site. 

“We are both so in love with her,” Sheeran said in the post, without giving the child’s name. 

The couple welcomed their first daughter, Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, in August 2020. 

Despite being in the spotlight for his music, Sheeran has remained private about his relationship with Seaborn.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a man charged in an on-stage attack of comedian Dave Chappelle has now also been charged with the attempted murder of a roommate months earlier. 

Isaiah Lee pleaded not guilty in the December stabbing at a Los Angeles transitional living facility. 

Prosecutors say the publicity that followed the Chappelle incident helped lead to the 23-year-old Lee’s identification and arrest in the previous attack. 

Lee was arrested May 3 after allegedly rushing the stage and tackling Chappelle during his stand-up set at the Hollywood Bowl. 

Lee pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanor counts stemming from that attack.

Rosmarie Trapp, whose Austrian family the von Trapps was made famous in the musical and beloved movie “The Sound of Music,” has died. Trapp Family Lodge says she died Friday at the age of 93 at a nursing home in Morrisville, Vermont. 

Rosmarie was the first daughter of Austrian naval Capt. Georg von Trapp and Maria von Trapp and a younger half-sibling of the older von Trapp children portrayed on stage and in the movie. 

The family escaped from Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938 and performed singing tours throughout Europe and America. 

They settled in Vermont in the early 1940s and opened a ski lodge in Stowe.

A final stop of the tour has been added in their home state of Kentucky with a show in Lexington at Rupp Arena on Oct. 29 with Hill as the special guest.

“I am humbled, once again, by the loyalty of the fans who have been with us for 38+ years, who continue to show up for me when I need them the most," Wynonna Judd said in a statement Thursday.

McBride will open the show on select nights.

The Grammy-winning Judds scored 14 No. 1 songs in a career that spanned three decades. The singer/actor has been public about her own struggles. 

In 2020, Gomez revealed that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Gomez, Biden and Murthy held a conversation with a group of young people who shared how they had improved their own mental health. 

The strategies they shared ranged from finding a therapist to using baking as a way to encourage conversation with others.

 Biden praised the courage she said it took for them to come forward.

Disney Original Documentary and Disney+ said Wednesday that the film, entitled “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: The Final Elton John Performances and the Years that Made his Legend,” will serve as the definitive and official feature on John’s life and career. 

Including unseen archival footage, new interviews and a present day look at him and his family, it’ll culminate with his final North American show at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles this November. 

R.J. Cutler and John's husband David Furnish will co-direct. No release date was announced.

Both said Monday they are excited about the challenge of doing something new after 20 seasons together at Fox. 

Aikman had considered a deal with Amazon to call Thursday night games while reducing his schedule at Fox. 

But the logistics of that arrangement became difficult, and ESPN began talking to him about moving to Monday nights. 

Once Aikman was on board, ESPN snagged Buck from Fox, where he had a year left on his contract. Buck says the parting was amicable.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (AP) — Ashley Judd encouraged people to seek help for their mental health after the loss of her mother, country star Naomi Judd. 

In an interview on “Good Morning America,” the movie star said she wanted to address her mother's struggle with depression and talked about resources such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. 

Naomi Judd died at the age of 76, a day before she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame with her duo partner and daughter Wynonna Judd. Ashley Judd said her mother shot herself. 

She said she cherishes every moment they had together. She also says she hopes people make the distinction between their loved ones and the mental health issues they face.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A film production company is contesting sanctions by New Mexico officials for alleged workplace safety violations on the set of “Rust,” where actor and producer Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer in October. 

In a filing made public Wednesday, Rust Movie Productions is challenging a $137,000 fine against the company by state occupational safety regulators who say production managers failed to follow standard industry protocols for firearms safety. 

Rust Movie Productions says misfires prior to the fatal shooting did not violate safety protocols and corrective action was taken. 

In October 2021, Baldwin was pointing a gun at cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during setup for filming when the firearm discharged.

NEW YORK (AP) — Robert Jones Jr.‘s historical novel “The Prophets” and Anthony Veasna So’s posthumous debut story collection “Afterparties” are among the winners of the 34th annual Triangle Awards, given for outstanding LGBTQ literature. 

So, who died suddenly in 2020 at age 28, became the first posthumous winner of the honor for best LGBTQ fiction. Jones’ novel, which imagines a love affair between two enslaved Black men, was named the outstanding debut fiction book.

A native of Tokyo, Saotome was 12 when he narrowly survived the firebombing of the city on March 10, 1945, that turned its densely populated downtown area into an inferno. 

More than 105,000 people are estimated to have died and a million made homeless in a single night, but the devastation has been largely eclipsed in history by the U.S. atomic bombings of two Japanese cities several months later. Saotome wrote books and opened a museum about the firebombing.

NEW YORK (AP) — Actor and activist James Cromwell glued his hand to a midtown Manhattan Starbucks counter to protest the coffee chain’s extra charge for plant-based milk. 

The 82-year-old Oscar nominee known for his role on “Succession” joined a protest Tuesday organized by the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

 Cromwell sat on the Starbucks counter wearing a “Free the Animals” T-shirt and read a statement denouncing the surcharge for vegan milk alternatives. 

A Starbucks spokesperson said the chain respects customers’ right to voice their opinions so long as it does not disrupt store operations.

Turner Classic Movies and Julien’s Auctions are teaming up to auction off items like Captain America’s shield from “Captain America: The First Avenger,” a two-piece Givenchy ensemble worn by Audrey Hepburn in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” and Jules Winnfield’s wallet from “Pulp Fiction.” 

The hammer used by Chris Hemsworth in “Thor: The Dark World'' is also included. 

The organizations said Tuesday that the auction will run July 15 through July 17 at Julien’s Actions in Beverly Hills and online at juliensauctions.com.
