Jerry Lee Niedens, 89, of WaKeeney, Kan., passed away Friday, May 21,
 2021. He was born September 28, 1931, in Brownell, Kan., to Alexander 
and Esther (Eichman) Niedens.

Jerry and Hedwig “Hedy” Deines were united in marriage on October 8, 
1950, in WaKeeney. They raised their family in WaKeeney, where he farmed 
and ran Niedens Trucking.

Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Hedy; daughters, Debra 
Niedens, Salina, and Janelle Harshberger (Kevin), Louisburg; son, Verl 
Niedens (Karen), Goddard; grandchildren, Luke Thompson (Erin Koch), Joel
 Thompson (Alicia), Allison Harshberger (Ben Hessney), Jacob Niedens 
(Leslie Landohl), and Will Niedens; step-grandchildren, Shellie Brandt, 
Heidi Brandt (Ivo Barata), and Linsey Floyd (Ryan); great-grandchildren,
 Brayden Niedens, Logan Thompson, Helena Thompson; 
step-great-grandchildren, Ivan Barata, Izac Barata, Scottie Floyd, and 
Karter Floyd.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Ross Niedens.

A memorial service will be Friday, May 28, 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem 
Lutheran Church, Wakeeney, with burial in WaKeeney City Cemetery.

Louis A. “Louie” Dellett III, 63, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at his home.

Louie was born October 18, 1957, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Louis A. Dellett Jr. and Crystal J. (Alger) Dellett.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1975 graduate of Pawnee Heights High School, Rozel, Kansas, he was a farmer. &nbsp;

He loved spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; He also enjoyed hunting, being outdoors, and football.&nbsp; He was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan.

On January 14, 1989, he married Ruth Dreiling.&nbsp; They divorced.

Survivors include:&nbsp; his daughters, Kylee Winter (Dalton), Haven, Kansas, Tara Jennings, La Crosse, Kansas, and Erica Basgall (Lonnie), Hutchinson, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Tyler, Haley, Natalie, Addison, Ashlie, Cade, Hendrix, Indi, Domonic, and Taelyn; one great grandchild, Landon; and two nieces, Tammy Chism, Great Bend, Kansas, and Tara Mangroo, Great Bend, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Betty Adair.

Memorial service will be Thursday, May 27, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Terry Warner&nbsp; officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

missed the recent tax-filing deadline who are due a refund that there is
 no penalty for filing late. Those who owe and missed the deadline

Normally, taxpayers should file their tax return, or request an 
extension, and pay any taxes they owe by the deadline to avoid penalties

IRS: Despite May 17 deadline, still time to get refund, cut penalties

On Thursday, October 22, 2020, our 
beautiful Mom and Grandma Pat passed to her eternal home in Heaven 
whereas faith has it she was embraced by her savior, Jesus.

Patricia Kay was born in Great Bend, 
Kansas on October 11, 1938 to Dorothy E. (Bruntzel) and John T. Darcey. 
She was the eldest sister to her loving siblings Deanna and Johnny. Pat 
graduated from Radium High School in 1956 and then pursued education at 
the Dominican School of Nursing, although her career path later revealed
 a love of and natural talent for interior design. &nbsp;&nbsp;On November 17, 
1956 Pat was set up on a blind date to Joseph G. “Joe” Englert at his 
sister Millie’s wedding. Pat and Joe’s courtship began! When Joe was 
stationed out for military duties, he proposed to Pat through a love 
letter sent via the postal system, complete with her engagement ring 
enclosed! A September 7, 1957 marriage union in Seward, KS. at St. 
Francis Xavier Catholic Church followed. The couple loved and grew a 
family of four children. In God’s providence, eleven grandchildren and 
five great grandchildren all became part of Pat’s world to love.

For 52 years Pat and Joe celebrated 
married life until Joe’s passing on August 4, 2009. Pat lived most of 
her life in Hays, Kansas where she and Joe both contributed through 
careers and volunteer work for their community. Pat’s interests included
 &nbsp;CCD teacher for Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, member of 
The Daughters of Isabella, retail store owner of Something Special Gift 
and Décor, showroom owner of Interiors by Pat, BID advisory board 
member, Hays Chamber of Commerce member, founder of Hays Bosom Buddies 
Cancer Support Group, support work toward the Knights of Columbus and 
Kansas National Guard, which her husband was member of both, arts and 
environment volunteer decorator for St. Francis Catholic Church in 
Munjor, volunteer seasonal decorating at Centennial Towers, &nbsp;which she 
loved doing and where she lived her final five years, and member of St. 
Francis Catholic Church. &nbsp; In her later years, she immersed herself in 
the hobby of painting tea towels, donating many to varied charitable 
organizations and to friends and her grandchildren. &nbsp;She loved all 
things creative, didn’t know a stranger, and had the kindest heart to 
all!

She is survived by her sister: Deanna 
Johnson, her brother: John Darcey, three children: Daniel Joseph Englert
 (Patty) of Belton, MO, Darcy Ann Mendenhall (Scott) of Platte City, 
MO,&nbsp;Theresa Marie Corbeille of Rochester, MI, her grandchildren: Jason 
(Meagan) Englert, Jared Englert, Scott Englert, Kyle (Cecily) and Connor
 Mendenhall, Cate Corbeille, Abby (Ryan Michael) Pfeifer, Ryan Joe 
(Polly) Pfeifer, Anna Pfeifer, Isabelle Pfeifer, Miranda (Tim) Abate, 
and Devin (Brittany) Engelhardt, and her great grandchildren: Bailey 
Englert, Caleb Englert, Eloise Mendenhall, Ella Pfeifer, Liam Pfeifer, 
Olyvia Engelhardt, Thomas Abate, Gianna Abate, Cale Engelhardt, and 
Adalynn Engelhardt. 

Pat was preceded in death by her 
husband Joe, a daughter: Rosemary Kay Englert-Pfeifer, a granddaughter: 
Victoria Rose Pfeifer, her parents, brothers-in-law: John, Edward, and 
Leonard Englert, Leonard Heeke, and Edward Johnson, sisters-in-law: 
Esmerelda Darcey, Georgia Englert, Mary Englert, and Ann Heeke,&nbsp;and 
nieces: Denise Johnson-George and Esther Rose McMurtrie. 

Pat’s family wishes to acknowledge and 
thank HaysMed for their utmost care given for the 30 days Pat was 
hospitalized till her passing, including ICU, Acute Care, hospital 
doctors, food and cleaning service, and all other departments that gave 
professional and compassionate care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic 
Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in 
St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until
 service time and recitation of the rosary will be at 9:30 am, all on 
Thursday at the church.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. Francis of

member, Hays Chamber of Commerce member, founder of Hays Bosom Buddies 
Cancer Support Group, support work toward the Knights of Columbus and 
Kansas National Guard, which her husband was member of both, arts and 
environment volunteer decorator for St. Francis Catholic Church in 
Munjor, volunteer seasonal decorating at Centennial Towers, &nbsp;which she 
loved doing and where she lived her final five years, and member of St. 
Francis Catholic Church. &nbsp; In her later years, she immersed herself in 
the hobby of painting tea towels, donating many to varied charitable 
organizations and to friends and her grandchildren. &nbsp;She loved all 
things creative, didn’t know a stranger, and had the kindest heart to 
all!She is survived by her sister: Deanna 
Johnson, her brother: John Darcey, three children: Daniel Joseph Englert
 (Patty) of Belton, MO, Darcy Ann Mendenhall (Scott) of Platte City, 
MO,&nbsp;Theresa Marie Corbeille of Rochester, MI, her grandchildren: Jason 
(Meagan) Englert, Jared Englert, Scott Englert, Kyle (Cecily) and Connor
 Mendenhall, Cate Corbeille, Abby (Ryan Michael) Pfeifer, Ryan Joe 
(Polly) Pfeifer, Anna Pfeifer, Isabelle Pfeifer, Miranda (Tim) Abate, 
and Devin (Brittany) Engelhardt, and her great grandchildren: Bailey 
Englert, Caleb Englert, Eloise Mendenhall, Ella Pfeifer, Liam Pfeifer, 
Olyvia Engelhardt, Thomas Abate, Gianna Abate, Cale Engelhardt, and 
Adalynn Engelhardt. Pat was preceded in death by her 
husband Joe, a daughter: Rosemary Kay Englert-Pfeifer, a granddaughter: 
Victoria Rose Pfeifer, her parents, brothers-in-law: John, Edward, and

thank HaysMed for their utmost care given for the 30 days Pat was 
hospitalized till her passing, including ICU, Acute Care, hospital 
doctors, food and cleaning service, and all other departments that gave

10:00 am on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic

Patricia Kay 'Pat' Englert

Robert Hans “Zip” Zinszer, 81, of Tyler, Texas succumbed to cancer on Friday, June 5, 2020 surrounded by beloved family members.

He was born October 13, 1938 in San Pedro, California, the son of Richard “Dick” H. and Mildred “Mitzy” R. (Hall) Zinszer.&nbsp;

During his youth, Robert’s parents 
lived in Saudi Arabia, giving him the opportunity to attend high school 
in Rome, Italy where his experiences and escapades begot delightful 
stories cherished by his children and grandchildren. &nbsp;Also, in his youth
 and early adulthood, he spent time in Hays, Kansas, being particularly 
fond of the time he lived and worked on his Hall grandparents’ 
Sweetwater Ranch. Later he joined the military, enlisting in the United 
States Army where he served as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, 
stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. &nbsp;It was during a weekend furlough,
 where at a Humpty Dumpty Drive-In Robert would meet his future bride, 
Margo Matlock, whom he married on April 16, 1960 in Parkers Settlement, 
Indiana. &nbsp;After leaving his service in the U.S. Army, he later graduated
 from Fort Hays State University.

Prior to moving to Tyler, Texas in 
2018, Robert and Margo lived in Pocatello, Idaho for 31 years. &nbsp;In 1994 
he retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an Assistant State
 Conservationist, concluding a 30-year career in the Soil Conservation 
Service. &nbsp;Other locations he served and lived during his career were the
 Kansas communities of Smith Center, Greensburg, Osborne, Strong City, 
and Emporia, as well as Carbondale, Illinois.

An avid gun enthusiast, fisherman, and 
ham-radio operator, Robert was also a card player with a special 
fondness for cribbage, poker, and “hand &amp; foot”. Robert especially 
enjoyed motorcycling and camping and was a frequent visitor to 
Yellowstone National Park and its surrounding area of which he often 
described the landscape as “good-looking country”. &nbsp;His love for this 
area led him and Margo to build their Zinszer Family Cabin outside of 
Island Park, Idaho in 1994, a place where they made lasting memories 
with family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60
 years; Margo L. Zinszer of Tyler, TX, two sons; Randy Zinszer and wife 
Cheryl of Flower Mound, TX, and Shawn Zinszer and wife Kori of 
Jacksonville, FL, a daughter; Kimberly Stapp and husband Gary of Tyler, 
TX, seven grandchildren; Lacey Stapp, Taylor Stapp and wife Jessie, 
Riley Zinszer, Carly Zinszer, Brennan Zinszer, Dallon Zinszer, and 
Kelsey Zinszer, and two brothers; Kendal Zinszer and wife Judy of 
Anderson, IN, and Kim Zinszer of Hays, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, his grandparents; Professor Harvey A. and Laura M. 
(Laudenslager) Zinszer and Robert L. and Edith (Irwin) Hall, and his 
sister Toni Kay Zinszer.

Robert Hans 'Zip' Zinszer

Lois Jean Starbuck, 90, passed away May 19, 2021, at Brookdale Senior
 Living, Great Bend. She was born December 20, 1930, at Russell, to 
Jacob &amp; Elizabeth (Strecker) Wolf. She married Billy Eugene Starbuck
 October 28, 1951, at Russell.&nbsp; He died April 7, 2012.

A resident of Great Bend since 1977, Jean was a bank teller for 
American State Bank. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, 
VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and Order of Eastern Star. She 
enjoyed walking, word searches and puzzles. Jean especially loved 
spending time with her family.

Survivors include, three daughters, Cindy Popp and late husband Don 
of Omaha, Julie Urban and husband Marvin, and Terri Stapleton and 
husband Bob, all of Great Bend; seven grandchildren, Shane Popp, Jeremy 
Popp, Stephanie Tiritilli, Cory Urban, Heath Urban, Dylan Ellis and 
Dustin Ellis; and fourteen great grandchildren, Sophie Popp, Luke Popp, 
Kaden Lindsay, Anna Tiritilli, Sophia Tiritilli, Cade Urban, Reid Urban,
 Kaleb Urban, Daehlyn Ellis, Dylan Ellis Jr., Devyn Ellis, Danyca Ellis,
 Dentri Ellis and Degan Ellis. She was preceded in death by her parents;
 her husband, Billy Starbuck; a brother, Rex Wolf; and a sister Fern 
McDowell.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May

 Lynne (Elder) Anderson died at the age of 68, at her home in Birch 
Tree, Missouri on May 17, 2021. She was born October 11, 1952, in 
Salina, Kansas to Frank and Jean (Little) Elder, where she grew up 
amongst a family of eight and was known as that spunky brown-eyed, 
brown-haired beauty in braids. She attended Fort Hays University after 
graduating from Salina High, class of 1970.

She
 married Clayton Anderson on March 27, 1981, and they lived in Smolan, 
Kansas before moving to rural Missouri. She was mom to Jennifer Jean 
Anderson and Ryan Franklin Anderson, whom she loved dearly. Her true 
passion was her love and devotion to her two grandchildren, Lucas and 
Serena.

Lynne
 mastered her studies of genealogy and took her knowledge of family and 
local history “on the road.”&nbsp; She often spoke at National Genealogy 
Conferences and conducted well-attended and fun re-enactments of 
characters in our family and other more well-known personalities. 
Especially memorable was her true-to-life presentation of our 
great-grandmother Weems, sunbonnet and all.

Additionally,
 she was an accomplished seamstress and quilter, sharing with family and
 friends her works of art. Above all, Lynne will be remembered for her 
quick, off the wall, sense of humor! Her antics and ability to invoke 
laughter in those around her, her candid vision, love of life, 
adventures, and misadventures will be treasured and missed always.

Lynne is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jean Elder; and two brothers, Grady and Lyle Elder.

She
 is survived by her husband, Clayton; two children; two grandchildren; 
two sisters, Faye (Marvin) Clements, Carol (Rick) Doran; one brother, 
Bryan (Pam) Elder; and in addition to a multitude of nieces, nephews, 
and cousins.

There
 will be a benefit in memory of Lynne on June 12, 2021, at the Winsome 
Plantation Venue. Food will be served from 4-6:00 p.m. with an auction 
and quilt raffle to follow. Proceeds will go towards outstanding medical
 and funeral costs. Donations of food, auction items, or money will be 
handled by Trista Smotherman Thomas. A family gathering will be held 
later in the summer. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of 
Yarber Mortuary, Birch Tree. Condolences may be expressed at

Paula Lynne Anderson

Morris Ray Foster, 72, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021 at Hays Medical 
Center, Hays, Kansas.  He was born in Norton, Kansas to Andrew Jackson 
Foster and Edith (Shafer) Foster the oldest of nine children.  Morris 
graduated from Jennings High School. 

After high school, he attended 
Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School. He continued his 
education at El Passo Community College in Colorado Springs, Colorado, 
earning an Associate’s Degree. He entered the United States Army, 
September 5, 1975. Morris served for four years and eleven months in 
Badkorgnak and Frankfort, Germany and later at Ft. Carson Colorado and 
Ft. Lewis Washington. Morris married Irene (Stremel ) in Canton, Georgia on October 16, 1984.
 Morris worked as an aircraft mechanic for Lockheed Martin 
Corporation, Marietta, Georgia, as well as Northwest Airlines, 
Minneapolis, Minnesota. After he retired for Lockheed Martin and 
Northwest Airlines, he worked for Gove Co. Landfill and recycling 
center. Morris enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and traveling . He 
volunteered with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and served as 
Chairman and committee member. He was a member of the Grainfield 
American Legion Post 301, lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk 
Foundation and the National Rifle Association. Morris was a hard 
worker. He was described as being outgoing, helpful, and a person who 
put others first. 
 Morris leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Irene of the home; 
step-sons, Jeff Ross of Fairmont, Nebraska and Dale Ross of Auburn, 
Washington; step-grandchildren, Jenna Wilson and fiancé Cory Ginther,

Reva G. Eicher passed away&nbsp;peacefully&nbsp;at&nbsp;Harry Hynes Hospice in Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas&nbsp;at the age of&nbsp;74.

Reva Eicher&nbsp;was born&nbsp;to&nbsp;Wayne and Irma Deeds on&nbsp;April 19, 1947, in&nbsp;Goodland, KS.&nbsp;

She&nbsp;graduated from&nbsp;Brewster High&nbsp;in&nbsp;1965&nbsp;and then attended Fort Hays 
State University in Retail Merchandising.&nbsp;Reva&nbsp;married&nbsp;Jon Eicher her 
high school sweetheart, on September 1, 1966.

After moving back from Manhattan, KS. Jon and Reva&nbsp;began farming 15 
miles North of Brewster, Kansas. On October 13, 1967, the couple 
welcomed&nbsp;their daughter, Michele into their family.&nbsp;Two years later, on 
June 16, 1969, Reva and Jon welcomed their first son, Rick Eicher, into 
their family, and their second son Pete Eicher on March 6,1972.&nbsp; Reva 
was very instrumental in sharing the Gospel with her children and making
 sure that Christ was the center of the family.

Reva&nbsp;was a woman of many talents, as she had to be independent and 
resourceful as a farmer’s wife. Besides the day-to-day activities of 
cooking, cleaning, and laundry, she learned to drive tractors and 
trucks, and work cattle.&nbsp; Once Jon and Reva left the farm she wore many 
more hats, such as Optometry and Dental assistant, Retail Liquidator, 
Bed and Breakfast Host and acquired her CNA. However, her gift was in 
decorating and landscaping that was soon recognized in the community, as
 her gift was requested by many.

Reva&nbsp;was a&nbsp;bubbly spirit that would always encourage others.&nbsp; She 
loved&nbsp;to sing and glorify God&nbsp;and she was passionate about&nbsp;sharing the 
Gospel of Christ with everyone she encountered. Reva&nbsp;was instrumental in
 starting Brewster Full Gospel Church, and often volunteered on many 
platforms no matter what church she was attending.

Edna Loraine Kulich

James William Kaba passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2021, at the Rooks 
County Health Center in Plainville, KS at the age of 85. He was born to 
James and Marie (Boller) Kaba on April 14, 1936, in Plainville.
 James was a lifetime resident of Plainville. He attended Plainville 
Grade School and graduated from Plainville High School. He entered the 
United States Army following his graduation and returned home when he 
was honorably discharged. James was united in marriage to Janice 
(Jacobs) Kaba on October 1, 1960, in Antonino, KS. The couple was blessed
 with three children: Vicki, Kim and John. 
 James worked in the oil field as a pumper until his early retirement
 at the age of 55. He picked up a part-time job at his favorite morning 
coffee place, Crawford Supply, and worked there for about 10 years. He 
was a simple man that enjoyed his routine. James was conservative and 
frugal when it came to himself, but generous to others. Every now and 
then he would play a nickel or penny slot at a casino, but his favorite 
thing to do was fish and spend time around the ones he loved. He was 
always so eager to pull out his slide projector and proudly show his 
military photos, family photos, and tell stories or re-live memories. 
James enjoyed passing time at home watching the Royals play or checking 
the stock markets. He took every day as it came, appreciated everyone in
 his life, and was thankful for every moment he had - and it was evident
 to those who knew him. He was a faithful servant to the Lord, attended 
masses regularly, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
 James will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but his memory 
will live on in our hearts and minds. Through his life he taught us how 
to live our dreams, through his example he taught us how to enjoy the 
fruits of our labor, but above all, through his love he taught us how to
 serve God and one another with undying devotion. 
 He is survived by his children, Vicki (Ken) Becker of Plainville, 
Kim (Bill) Glazner of McPherson, and John (Kelly) Kaba of Hays; 
brothers, Mike (Lisa) Kaba of Boulder City, NV, and Mark (Jeanie) Kaba 
of Wichita; sister-in-law, Nell Kaba of Wichita; brother-in-law and dear
 friend, Phil Barber of Plainville; eight grandchildren, Kurtis (Tara) 
of Piedmont, OK, Jessica (Matt) Korte of Evergreen, CO, Rhiannon (Nick)

Service and K of C Rosary beginning at 7PM.

James William Kaba

Fay Louise (Harper) Wolf, age 85, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care in Quinter, Kansas. She was born October 8, 1935, to Oscar and Nellie (Hinchee) Harper in Roanoke, Virginia.&nbsp;

Fay graduated from Fincastle High School.&nbsp; On December 16, 1957, she was united in marriage to John Wolf in Roanoke, Virginia until his death on January 13, 1972. Fay graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1974, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in special education. She dedicated her life to those people who had special needs and took great care and demonstrated a rare gift for providing education to those with the most severe challenges. Fay’s first teaching position was at Kansas Neurological Institute where she taught on the Deaf and Blind unit. She then moved to Virginia where she developed an innovative program to teach students with severe intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities in Roanoke City Schools. After many years of service, she returned to Western Kansas where she continued teaching students with multiple disabilities.&nbsp;

Fay greatly enjoyed animals, poetry, literature, and scripture. She effortlessly memorized and recited long passages to her children, grandchildren, and students. Fay had a deep Christian faith and love for God that she passed on to her children.&nbsp;

Fay is survived by her children Titus and wife Sandra Wolf of Midlothian, Virginia, Dr. Amos Wolf and wife Dr. Sherry Whatley of Pflugerville, Texas, Esther and husband Thomas Thielen of Quinter, Kansas, Michael and wife Sherry Wolf of Pottsboro, Texas, Tye Wolf of Pottsboro, Texas and Adrian Wolf of&nbsp; Kansas; grandchildren John Wolf, Father Luke Thielen, Dr. Lance and wife Mary Thielen, Shawn Wolf, Aaron Wolf, Collin Thielen, Caleb Wolf, and Ethan Wolf; and great-grandchildren Dominic and Andrew Thielen.

Preceding Fay in death are her parents Oscar and Nellie Harper; her loving husband John Wolf; son David Wolf; great-granddaughter Bernadette Rose Thielen; and brothers William and Ray Harper.

Colorado-based FirstSun Capital Bancorp, the holding company of Sunflower Bank, N.A. and&nbsp;Texas-based Pioneer Bancshares Inc., the holding company of Pioneer Bank, SSB jointly announced today that they have entered into a definitive agreement pursuant to which Pioneer and Pioneer Bank will merge with and into FirstSun and Sunflower Bank, respectively, in an all-stock transaction.

On a pro forma basis as of&nbsp;March 31, the combined company would have over&nbsp;$7 billion&nbsp;in total assets with over&nbsp;$5 billion&nbsp;in both loans and deposits, and over 60 branch locations. 

Sunflower Bank's expanded pro forma footprint will include some of the largest growth markets in&nbsp;the United States. 

This combination will bring Sunflower Bank an expanded presence in&nbsp;Texas, along with its footprint in&nbsp;Arizona,&nbsp;Colorado,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;and&nbsp;New Mexico&nbsp;and home mortgage origination capabilities in 43 states.

The transaction is intended to qualify as a tax-free reorganization for U.S. federal income tax purposes. 

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 

The transaction is expected to close early in&nbsp;October, subject to satisfaction of customary closing conditions, including receipt of regulatory approvals and Pioneer shareholder approval. 

Upon closing, the Board of Directors of both FirstSun and Sunflower Bank will be expanded to include former directors of Pioneer and Pioneer Bank.

Schwartz. She married Fred Goodman on October 19, 1956. 
Nadine attended West School in Lane County. After her schooling she 
helped on the family farm until moving to Garden City and worked at the
 Garden Grill Café. After her marriage she lived on the Goodman family 
farm near Alamota where she worked with her husband with all the farm 
jobs. She later cleaned homes in Dighton for over 30 years. She 
enjoyed riding her bicycles, gardening, dancing, fishing, playing the 
piano, organ and accordion. She loved listening and singing country and
 gospel music. 
She is survived by her 3 Sons- Roger Goodman of Attica, Steven Goodman 
of Goodland, and Tim Goodman of Beeler, Daughter- Lynett (Jon) French of

 October 2020, consumers have reported losing more than $80 million to 
cryptocurrency investment scams, an increase of more than ten-fold 
year-over-year, according to a new data analysis from the Federal Trade 
Commission.

In a new <a href="https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/blogs/data-spotlight/2021/05/cryptocurrency-buzz-drives-record-investment-scam-losses">consumer protection data spotlight</a>,
 the FTC breaks down the contents of nearly 7,000 reports received from 
consumers about these scams in the last quarter of 2020 and the first 
quarter of 2021. The median amount consumers reported losing to the 
scams was $1,900.

The spotlight notes that cryptocurrency 
investment scams take on a variety of forms, sometimes starting as 
offers of investment “tips” or “secrets” in online message boards that 
lead people to bogus investment websites. Another common form of the 
scam involves a promise that a celebrity associated with cryptocurrency 
will multiply any cryptocurrency you send to their wallet and send it 
back. In fact, consumers reported losing more than $2 million to Elon 
Musk impersonators alone since October.

The spotlight notes that 
consumers age 20 to 49 were over five times more likely than older age 
groups to report losing money to a cryptocurrency investment scam, and 
that in the six-month period covered by the spotlight, consumers in 
their 20s and 30s lost more money to investment scams than any other 
form of fraud. More than half of their investment scam losses were in 
cryptocurrency.

FTC: Huge spike in cryptocurrency investment scams

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Supreme Court tossed out on Friday the murder conviction of a Wichita man who claimed he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot a man who had attacked him with a knife in his home.

The appeals court sent the case of Casimiro Nunez back to the trial court in Sedgwick County for further proceedings.

Nunez had been sentenced to life in prison after his conviction in 2019 of first-degree murder and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute in the October 2016 killing of Antonio Guzman.

The appeals court also found that the district court mistakenly refused to give the jury an involuntary manslaughter instruction, and said that the error was prejudicial.

“The error may have affected the outcome of the trial because the requested instruction could have focused the attention of the jury on the legitimacy of the initial self-defense, mitigated by the subsequent exertion of unnecessary force,” according to the ruling.

The court concluded a jury could have found that Nunez had the right to take aggressive measures to protect himself, but that he used excessive force when he shot Guzman, who had fallen to the floor.

Shirley Gertrude Gabel, 85, passed away on May 10, 2021 at her son’s 
home in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on October 7, 1935 in LaCrosse, 
Kansas the daughter of Hubert and Gertrude (Wierman) Brackney.

She a was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society, she 
served on the board of the Ness City Leisure Years Center and was a 
member of the Frank Stull Post 152 American Legion Auxiliary.&nbsp; Shirley 
worked for over 45 years at the Ness County Hospital in dietary and as 
the purchasing agent.&nbsp; She married Alex A. “Junior” Gabel on November 
10, 1959, in Ness City, Kansas. He proceeded her in death on June 14, 
2005.

Survivors include a daughter, Valerie Gabel (Randy) of Rowlett, 
Texas; three sons, Steve Brackney (Sharon) of Charleston, South 
Carolina, Craig Gabel (Teresa) of Wichita, and Brian Gabel (Carolyn) of 
Ness City; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded 
in death by her parents, husband, “Junior” Gabel, two brothers, Kenneth 
and Duane Brackney; two grandchildren, Jacob and Tyler Gabel; a 
sister-in-law, Nita Brackney; and a niece, Jolinda.

Rosary followed by the Parish Vigil will be held at Fitzgerald 
Funeral Home, Ness City on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. Funeral 
service will be on Saturday, May 15, 2021, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred 
Heart Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery,
 Ness City.&nbsp; Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Friday from 
9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Patricia A. McConnell, 83, Salina, passed away November 24, 2020, at 
Salina Regional Health Center. She was born September 8, 1937, in Great 
Bend, KS, to Leonard and Clara (Birzer) Bahr.

She married Warren Ervin McConnell on October 6, 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp; Patricia 
worked as a Registered Nurse at Clara Barton Hospital up until her 
retirement. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar 
Society, Hoisington.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Clara Bahr; and brother, Donald Bahr.

Survivors include; her husband, Warren “Ervin”; children, Edwinda 
(Wayne) Day of Isabel, Weldon (Karla) McConnell of Salina, Jan (Jody) 
Pfannenstiel of Salina, and Renee (Scott) Suppes of Great Bend; seven 
grandchildren, Miranda Flores, Kristen Flores, Erica Harford, Sarah

Stewart Edwards McAdoo, 69, of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, May 7, 2021, at his home in Russell, Kansas.

Stewart was born on October 04, 1951, in Russell, Kansas, the son of 
Stewart Leslie and Josie Edna (VanHouten) McAdoo.&nbsp; He grew up in 
Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 
1969.&nbsp; After high school he received his welding certification from the 
Salina Vo-Tech School in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He met, fell in love and was 
united in marriage to Janet Sue Ross on May 26, 1971, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; 
From this union Stewart and Janet were blessed with three sons Doug, 
Mike and Curt.&nbsp; The McAdoo family made their home and raised their kids 
in Russell.&nbsp; Stewart worked as a welder and most notably worked for 
Easter Davis at Easter’s Welding Service.&nbsp; He loved being a welder and 
became well known for his attention to detail and craftmanship that made
 him known as one of the most respected welders in the Russell area.&nbsp; 
Stewart enjoyed fishing and hunting but most of all he enjoyed spending 
time with his family.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed spending time and playing 
with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include his sons Doug McAdoo and wife April, Mike 
McAdoo and wife Kathy all of Russell, Kansas and Curt McAdoo and wife 
Vivian of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brothers Bill McAdoo and wife 
Carol and Larry McAdoo and wife Darleen all of Russell, Kansas; sisters 
Josie Doty of Russell, Kansas, Martha Batman and husband Charlie of 
Otis, Kansas, Evelyn Monroe and husband Leroy of McPherson, Kansas, Ruby

Donald C. “Don” Staab, 85 of Victoria, Kansas, died Sunday, May 9, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.&nbsp; He was born November 8, 1935, in Salina, Kansas, to Aloysius Raymond “Al” and Olivia Delores (Korbe) Staab.&nbsp; He married Sylvia (Lang) on October 8, 1960, at Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on October 27, 1960.&nbsp; He then married Gertude (Maneth) on June 8, 1964, at La Crosse, Kansas.

He was an attorney for 60 years and had his private law practice in Ellis County from 1963 to 2019.&nbsp; He was a Civil Affairs Attorney at Fort Leonard Wood from 1960 to 1963.&nbsp; He was elected Ellis County Attorney in 1965 through 1967, then served in Ellis County District Court as Assistant County Attorney from 1970 to 1975.&nbsp; He served as City Attorney for Victoria Municipal Court from 1970 to 1975, and City Judge for Victoria Municipal Court from 1979 to 2001.&nbsp; He was the School Board Attorney for U.S.D. #432 at Victoria for 30 years.

Don grew up in Ellis, Kansas, and was a 1953 graduate of Ellis High School.&nbsp; He attended&nbsp; Colorado University at Boulder, Colorado, from 1953 to 1954.&nbsp; He received his BA Degree in Political Science in 1956, and his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1959, both at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. &nbsp;

Don was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity since 1957, a member of the Kansas Bar Association, a member of the Ellis County Bar Association since 1959, and a Life Member of the Washburn Law School Association since 1990.&nbsp; He was a member of the Board of Directors at the Farmers National Bank in Victoria from 1984 to 1991, and a member of the Board of Directors at the Victoria Community Credit Union from 1991 to 2001.&nbsp; He served on the U.S.D. #432 School Board from 1981 to 1985, and from 1989 to 1993.&nbsp; He was a member of the United States of America Court for the District of Colorado since 1998, and a prior Commissioner of the Kansas Lawyers Assistant Program.

He was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree, the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly, and a Past Faithfull Navigator all of Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; Don was an avid Denver Broncos and Colorado University Buffaloes fan, and he enjoyed fishing, reading and walking his dog.

Survivors include his wife, Gertie Staab, of the home; one son, Karl Staab and wife, Debbie, Victoria, KS; one daughter, Amy J. Staab, Ellis, KS; two granddaughters, Audrey Staab and Morgan Staab; and his little four-legged friend, Maverick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and his lifelong best friends from Ellis Elementary School and Ellis High School, Rudy Erbert; Don Rowland; Don Schoech; Andy Pfeifer; and Jack Niernberger.&nbsp;
