Maralyn Rae Wilson, 84, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Maralyn&nbsp;was born on August 10, 1938, in Waldo, Kansas, the daughter of Ray and Sarah V. (Beck) Mead. &nbsp;She grew up in Waldo and&nbsp;graduated from Waldo High School in 1956. &nbsp;She met fell in love and was united in marriage&nbsp;to Levi&nbsp;Duane Wilson on September 30, 1956,&nbsp;at the Waldo United Methodist Church. &nbsp;From this union Maralyn and&nbsp;Duane were blessed with 4 children Kerry,&nbsp;Kandis,&nbsp;Delayn,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Ty.&nbsp;She graduated from&nbsp;Ft. Hays University&nbsp;and received her&nbsp;bachelor’s&nbsp;degree in nursing. &nbsp;She worked as&nbsp;a registered nurse&nbsp;for 30 years&nbsp;at the Russell Regional Hospital&nbsp;in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;She was a former member of the Waldo United Methodist&nbsp;Church and the First Christian&nbsp;Church in Russell. &nbsp;Being an avid collector, she enjoyed&nbsp;going to auctions and flea markets&nbsp;always trying to find&nbsp;something unique to add to her collections. &nbsp;Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. &nbsp;She&nbsp;especially enjoyed spending time with her many&nbsp;grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughters Kerry McDaniel and husband James of Ponca City, Oklahoma&nbsp;and&nbsp;Delayn Wilson of Topeka, Kansas; her son Ty Wilson&nbsp;and wife Susan&nbsp;of Hays, Kansas; brother&nbsp;Gerald&nbsp;Mead and&nbsp;wife Ruth of Clearwater, Florida; sisters Barbara Robertson&nbsp;and Joan Pitts both of Waldo, Kansas; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duane&nbsp;on March 3, 1984, daughter Kandis Lightfoot, brother Ronald Mead&nbsp;and grandchildren Sarah Lightfoot and Jonathan McDaniel.

A&nbsp;private&nbsp;family&nbsp;graveside&nbsp;service&nbsp;for&nbsp;Maralyn&nbsp;will be held at&nbsp;the Russell City Cemetery in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is&nbsp;in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Dorothy June (McCall) Schulz, 96, of El Dorado, Kansas, and formerly 
of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Lakepoint 
Nursing Home in El Dorado.

June was born June 16, 1926, in Natoma, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the daughter 
of Virgil B. &amp; Esther M. (Madsen) McCall.&nbsp; She grew up and attended 
schools in Fairport, Kansas, Paradise, Kansas, and Russell.&nbsp; She 
graduated from Russell High School and was the Class of 1944 
Valedictorian.

June was united in marriage to Elmer H. Voos.&nbsp; This union was blessed
 with five children; Alan, Terry, Debra, Jon Michael and Denise. &nbsp;They 
made their home in Russell. &nbsp;Elmer preceded her in death.&nbsp; Later she was
 united in marriage to Millard E. Schulz.

June was a Secretary for White, Pettijohn and Schulz Doctor’s 
office.&nbsp; She also was a Transcriptionist for the Russell City Hospital.&nbsp;
 She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Priscilla Circle, Epsilon
 Sigma Alpha Sorority and the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

June’s surviving family include her daughters, Debra Melcher (Gary) 
of El Dorado, Kansas and Denise Miller (Tony) &nbsp;of Russell, Kansas; son, 
Terry Voos (Claudia) of Manhattan, Kansas; brother, Gary McCall; 11 
grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer; sons, Alan 
Voos and Jon Michael Voos; brothers, Duane McCall, Bill McCall and 
Richard McCall; sisters, Betty Leverett, Sharon Kilian, Karen Henslee 
and Darlene Galyardt; and great grandchild Isaac.

June’s family wishes to extend many Thanks to Homestead Assisted Living, Lake Point and Good Shepherd Hospice.

Celebration of June’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, 
October 12, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.&nbsp; Burial 
will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; Visitation 
will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at

Wayne Eldon Bosler, 87, of Herndon, died Monday, October 3, 2022. He was
 born on January 19, 1935, the fourth child of six children to Nick and 
Josephine (Johnston) Bosler in Oberlin, KS. 
He attended and graduated from Oberlin Elementary School and Decatur 
Community High School. In 1956, Wayne joined the United States Navy and 
was honorably discharged in 1959. 
In 1960, Wayne was united in marriage to Linda Jording. In June of 2022,
 they celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary. Their only child was a 
son, Barry. Wayne and Linda had three grandchildren and two 
great-grandsons. 
Wayne and Linda moved from Oberlin to Denver, Co, in 1960, where Wayne 
attended and graduated from Barber College. Wayne continued Barbering in
 Denver until 2006. Eventually, he purchased a barber shop and 
laundromat on Penn Avenue in Oberlin, KS. 
Wayne and Linda purchased a home in Herndon, KS, in 2006, where they 
resided until moving to the Good Samaritan Society in Atwood, KS. 
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife’s parents; one 
brother; two sisters; seven sisters-in-laws; nine brothers-in-law and 
his daughter-in-law Beth Bosler. 
He is survived by his wife Linda (Jording) Bosler; son Barry Bosler: 
grandchildren, Joshua Bosler, Torey Bosler and Nick Bosler, his wife 
Abby and sons Greyson and Desmond Bosler; sister Carolyn Wallace; sister
 Joy and her husband Von Johnson and many more nieces and nephews. 
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 
2022, at the Church of Christ, Oberlin, KS. Inurnment will be in Rose 
Hill Cemetery, Ludell.

Loretta Mae (Kinderknecht) Karnes, 65, of Grainfield, Kansas passed 
away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at the Sheridan County Health Complex
 after a short illness. Loretta was born to Virgil and Luella 
(Richmeier) Kinderknecht, on September 2, 1957, in WaKeeney, Kansas. She
 grew up in Park, Kansas with her eight siblings. She attended and 
graduated from Wheatland High School with the class of 1975. She met the
 love of her life, Roy Dean Karnes, and married him in Hoxie, Kansas on 
September 16, 1978. They were blessed with three children.

Loretta
 had the most kind, caring and selfless heart. She was always willing to
 help someone in need. She spent her life being around people she loved.
 Loretta loved being outside doing yard work and tending to her garden. 
She also had a soft spot in her heart for animals. She enjoyed getting 
together with family anytime but especially at holidays. She was a 
homemaker most of her life. This allowed Loretta to spend time and be 
around her grandchildren almost daily. Her family and grandchildren were
 the delight of her life. Loretta loved her family with all her heart.

 is survived by her husband, Roy of Grainfield, Kansas; son, Mark Karnes
 of Grainfield, Kansas; daughters, Mary Glick and husband Darin of 
Quinter, Kansas and Becki Sporing and husband, Raven of Park, Kansas; 
brothers, Leon Kinderknecht and wife Tracy of Wamego, Galen Kinderknecht
 of Park, Kansas, Randall Kinderknecht of Park, Kansas and Eric 
Kinderknecht and wife Debbie of Hoxie, Kansas; sisters, Marilyn Arnold 
and husband Dave of Hoxie, Kansas, Glenda Heier and husband Richard, and

and Annabelle Malsom have qualified for the 3-2-1A state tennis tournament. Nowlin
finished sixth in singles and O’Banion and Malsom were sixth in doubles at the
Trego regional over the weekend.

Nowlin (13-8) received a first round bye and defeated LeAnne
Beikmann of Norton 6-1, 6-2 in her first match. After losing to Phillipsburg’s
Makenna Russom in her second match she came back to beat Norton Taylor Mapes
6-1, 6-2 before losing to Felis De La Cruz of Ellsworth 6-1, 6-2 in the fifth
place match.

Central Plains Kyla Metro went 4-0 to win the singles regional
title.

O’Banion and Malsom also had a first-round bye and defeated
Rayne Bray and Lauren Higgins of Hoisington 6-0, 6-2 before losing to Gracie Riner
and Laevie Riner of Osborne 6-0, 6-1. They came back to beat Jaden Belles and
Gabby Poels of Phillipsburg 6-0, 6-3 before losing to Central Plains Ryann
Metro and Ashlyn Armstrong in the fifth place match.

Osborne’s Gracie Riner and Leavie Riner won the won the doubles

Tenth of an inch of rain Friday; 'spectacular Sunday' on the way

Barbara Pearle Sheldon, 77, died October 7, 2022, at her home.&nbsp; She 
was born on June 13, 1945, in Wellington, KS, the daughter of Gilbert 
and Idotha (Patton) Cottle. 

Barbara grew up on a dairy farm near South 
Haven and graduated from South Haven High School. She earned a Bachelor 
of Arts Degree from Southwestern College in Winfield. While there, 
Barbara met Tom Sheldon, and they were married the day after her 
graduation, June 5, 1967. They shared 55 years of marriage.

Barbara earned a Master of Religious Education degree from Perkins 
School of Theology at Southern Methodist University in 1969. She served 
as Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at the Valley 
Center United Methodist Church for two years. In 1971, Barbara and Tom 
moved to Oxford where they lived 4 years, and added two daughters to the
 family.

In 1975, the Sheldon family moved to Syracuse where Tom was appointed
 to serve. While there, Barbara served as the church Pre-School Director
 for 5 years. In 1980, the family moved to Kechi and Barbara served as 
the Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministry at University 
United Methodist Church in Wichita for 5 years.

In 1985, the family moved to Newton and Barbara began serving as an 
Associate Council Director for the Kansas West Conference.&nbsp; She served 
on the Conference Staff in various roles, including 4 years as 
Coordinator of Nurture, Outreach and Witness.&nbsp; While serving on the 
Conference Staff, she resourced hundreds of local churches with 
Christian education training events, visioning and goal setting, program
 planning, leadership development, staff team building, and consulting 
regarding matters ranging from personnel to building design.&nbsp; This 
ministry involved much travel over the western two-thirds of Kansas.

In 2004, Barbara served as the Interim Executive Director of Grace 
Med Health Clinic. She helped in selecting the new director, which 
turned out to be an excellent choice.&nbsp; Barbara also served as a Diaconal
 Minister, and then as a Deacon in the United Methodist Church.&nbsp; The 
family served at the South Hutchinson United Methodist Church for 6 
years, Mulvane church for 10 years and Great Bend for 3 more years.&nbsp; 
Barbara retired in 2012, making Hutchinson her and Tom’s home.

Barbara is survived by: her husband, Tom of the home; daughters, Lori
 Sheldon of Haviland and Robin Reed and husband Joe of Albuquerque, NM; 
grandsons, Matthew Schrag, Ethan Reed, and Quinn Reed; brother, John 
Cottle and wife, Janice of Enid, OK; sister, Joan Orr of Sedan; foster 
brother, Richard Geier and wife Donna of Rose Hill; son-in-law, Steve 
Schrag; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marsha Cottle.

Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2022, at 
Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson. Inurnment 
will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Rome, KS (which is south of 
Wellington). Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and 
Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp;

Treasures Preschool, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main,

Deklan Ray Foos, born sleeping into the arms of Jesus at 2:19 a.m. on
 October 4, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lincoln, Nebraska. Son of 
Chance and Stephanie Foos, formerly of Burdett.

Deklan is survived by sisters Brinleigh and Jordyn, and brothers 
Tatum and Cooper. He is also survived by maternal grandparents Scott and
 Beverly Burd, and paternal grandmother Sonja Foos; several aunts; 
uncles; and many cousins.

Deklan was preceded in death by paternal grandfather Terry Foos and maternal uncle Cameron Burd.

Bonnie Rose Smith, 75, of Atwood, KS, passed away October 5, 2022, 3:00 
p.m. at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita, KS, surrounded by family and 
friends. 
She was born May 22, 1947, in Holyoke, CO to Clifford Raymond and Maxine
 Mickey (Thatcher) Smith. Her school years were spent in Holyoke, CO. 
She graduated from Holyoke High School in 1965. She began her career at 
the age of 19, in Denver, CO at Target stores and was quickly promoted 
to a manager and then buyer. She lived in many cities throughout the 
United States and travelled the world as a regional sales manager for 
Value Merchants. During her career, Bonnie gave birth to her son, Brady, 
in May of 1983, who was her pride and joy. She then settled in Saint 
Francis, KS to be close to family and raise her son. While living in 
Saint Francis, she worked alongside her brother, Bill, at Cheyenne Bowl.
 In 1998, Bonnie and Brady moved to Atwood, KS, where she purchased 
Atwood Bowl. Later she went on to proudly manage the Atwood Country 
Club, where she fostered many memories and lifetime friendships. In the 
last few years of her life, she joined the Vap Construction team, where 
she brought joy to the office every day. 
In her free time, Bonnie cherished time with family, most of all her 
grandchildren. One of her favorite past-times was playing games at 
family gatherings. She also enjoyed playing and hosting Bridge, where 
she formed very close friendships. This grew to be an important 
highlight of her weekly routine. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Mickey Smith. 
She is survived by her only child, Brady Smith (Bailey); grandchildren, 
Dylan, Tristen, and Ariann, of Atwood, KS; brothers, Bill Smith and Rick
 Smith (Gail), of Atwood, KS; sisters, Lenee Seeker, of Rocklin, CA and 
Barbie Gopperton, of Mesa, AZ; nieces, and nephews, Dax Groves 
(Kristen), Megan Joerg (Greg), Leslie Smith (Tyrel), Jennifer Leitner 
(Tyler), Lyndsi Colgan, Ali Smith, and Cameron Colgan; great nieces and 
nephews, Camden Aldrich, Kinsley Goodvin, Payton Smith, Haisley Leitner,
 Ronan Groves, Reid Groves, Tucker Prideaux, and Toby Prideaux. She is 
also survived by many friends she considered family. 
Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., October 9th, 2022, at United Methodist 
Church, Atwood, KS. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial 
services will be held October 10th, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. (CST), 2:00 p.m. 
(MST) in Holyoke, CO at Holyoke Memorial Park.

The Hays Soccer Club’s U12 Hays Thunder went 4-0 at the Wichita Open last weekend in Wichita. 

The Thunder started tournament play against the Northeast Oklahoma FC 2011 Gray on Saturday. The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period with goals from Joey Fisher and Noah&nbsp;DeBey. The first period finished with two more goals from Fisher with Col Lonsdale providing an assist. 

Starting the second period, the Thunder forced another goal off a NEOFC player to bring the score to 5-0. Dalton&nbsp;Herrman&nbsp;got into the action with a goal midway through the second period off an assist from Austin Liles. The match ended with a late goal from Col Lonsdale as the Thunder shut out the NEOFC Gray 7-0. The match saw shots on goal from Dalton&nbsp;Herrman(4), Noah&nbsp;DeBey(1), Joey Fisher(4), and Col Lonsdale(1) and one assist from Austin Liles and Col Lonsdale. Logan Cunningham and Joey Fisher kept NEOFC scoreless at keeper with four and one save respectively.

For the second pool play game on Saturday, the Thunder faced Derby United 2011 Black. Starting as a defensive battle in the first period Derby struck first with a goal midway through the first period. Thunder pushed back but had trouble finding the back of the net until Logan Cunningham scored off a Liles assist late in the first period. Early in the second period, Cunningham scored a second goal from a Fisher assist. Thunder picked up their final goal of the match from&nbsp;Herrman&nbsp;with Fisher providing the assist finishing off Derby 3-1. The match saw shots on goal from Dalton&nbsp;Herrman(5), Austin Liles(1), Joey Fisher(3), Logan Cunningham(3), Mason Zimmerman(1), and Col Lonsdale(1). Jace&nbsp;Herbers&nbsp;was the sole keeper&nbsp;throughout&nbsp;the match finishing with 6 saves.

For the final pool play game on Sunday Thunder took on Sporting Wichita Silver 11B. The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead halfway through the first period with goals from Joey Fisher and Noah&nbsp;DeBey. The first period finished with two more goals from Fisher with Col Lonsdale providing an assist. Starting the second period, the Thunder forced another goal off a NEOFC player to bring the score to 5-0. Dalton&nbsp;Herrman&nbsp;got into the action with a goal midway through the second period off an assist from Austin Liles. The match ended with a late goal from Col Lonsdale as the Thunder shut out the NEOFC Gray 7-0. The match saw shots on goal from Dalton&nbsp;Herrman(4), Noah&nbsp;DeBey(1), Joey Fisher(4), and Col Lonsdale(1) and one assist from Austin Liles and Col Lonsdale. Logan Cunningham and Joey Fisher kept NEOFC scoreless at keeper with four and one save respectively.For the second pool play game on Saturday, the Thunder faced Derby United 2011 Black. Hays Soccer Club U12 team brings home gold from Wichita Open

Happy Fall! The past few mornings my bike commute has been so enjoyable. The cool crisp air reminds us that fall is here. In our world of Extension, October signals the beginning of a new program year. It is the perfect time to enroll kids in 4-H for the first time or re-enroll members through the online process.&nbsp;

Speaking of 4-H I want to remind you that we are looking for someone to join our team as the 4-H and Youth Development Agent in the Hays office. You can find more information about the application process on our Cottonwood Extension website. I hope you will share this information with someone who is passionate about working with youth in our area and encourage them to apply.&nbsp;

Since my retirement date is just four short months away, our Cottonwood District Board will be conducting a search for a District Director with community vitality programming responsibilities. That position description and application process will be advertised&nbsp;beginning October&nbsp;18th&nbsp;with interviews set for early December. The District Director serves as the administrative leader of the Cottonwood District’s budget and fiscal operations; personnel management of local staff; and overall program development and delivery.&nbsp;If you know someone with these skills encourage them to apply.&nbsp;

A couple of weeks ago I highlighted the upcoming open enrollment period for individuals with Medicare coverage. Appointments will be available in both our Great Bend and Hays offices, so just give me a call to set up a time. There is no charge for this service, and it really is a good idea to review your prescription drug plan each year. That way there are fewer surprises after the first of the year.&nbsp;

Another upcoming workshop that I will be leading&nbsp;is a&nbsp;ServSafe&nbsp;class&nbsp;for Food Handlers.&nbsp;This workshop is set for Wednesday, November 2nd, from 1:00 – 4:30 at the Great Bend office meeting room, 3007 10th&nbsp;Street. A $15 registration fee holds your spot and participants will receive an up-to-date manual and refreshments. Whether you are an occasional food handler at your churches’ soup supper, or you work in a food service-related job, this class is excellent. Participants will receive a certificate of completion to share with their employer.&nbsp;Class size is limited so call our office at (620)793-1910 to sign up.&nbsp;

Joe F. Lobato, age 77 of Hays, Kansas, died Thursday, October 6, 2022, at&nbsp;Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was born May 5, 1945, in Fruita, Colorado, to Benjamin and Lena (Serato) Lobato.

Joe married Carol (Smith) on April 10,&nbsp;1970,&nbsp;at Fruita, Colorado.

He was raised and attended school in Fruita, and lived in the Colby&nbsp;and Selden,&nbsp;Kansas, area for 50 years. &nbsp;He was a welder for the Golden Plains Ag Tech&nbsp;in Colby&nbsp;and&nbsp;retired&nbsp;in 2021. &nbsp;Joe and Carol moved to Hays in&nbsp;May of 2022. &nbsp;He enjoyed fishing and attending the grandkids&nbsp;school and&nbsp;sports activities. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Carol, of the home; his children, Joe Lobato and wife, Sandra, Ellis, KS; John Lobato and wife, Angie, Salina, KS; Janelle Lobato&nbsp;and husband, John Gay,&nbsp;Hays, KS; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jace Lobato; three brothers and two sisters.

A private family service and inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorials made payable to:&nbsp;The City of Selden (for the walking path) in care of the mortuary.

Joe F. Lobato

Lucille Rupp, age 92, of Hays, Kansas, passed to her eternal reward while at her home on Wednesday, October 5, 2022. Lucille was born on May 5, 1930 to Joseph and Sophia (Pfannenstiel) Rupp. Lucille was the eleventh child of fifteen, growing up on a farm near Liebenthal and La Crosse, Kansas until the family moved to Hays.&nbsp; That same day she enrolled as a Freshman at Girls Catholic High School.&nbsp; She graduated from GCHS in 1948, attended St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, from 1949-1953 graduating with a degree in Music.&nbsp; God gifted Lucille with an outstanding coloratura singing voice with a range of 3½ octaves. She could reach 3-4 notes above ‘High C’ and 3-4 notes below ‘Low C’.&nbsp; Lucille made several vocal recordings to submit to the Fulbright Scholarship Board, which her family now cherishes. She sang solos at GCHS and at various events in the Hays area and received the Fulbright Scholarship award to study voice in Vienna, Austria.&nbsp; She also performed in operas in Vienna. &nbsp; When the scholarship funding was ending in 1956, Lucille became employed with the US Atomic Energy Commission as a US Federal Employee to personally continue funding her vocal training.&nbsp; Lucille loved to travel and experience other cultures. She traveled to Sri Lanka, India in the late 50’s to study the Indian culture before returning home to Hays where she again enrolled in Fort Hays State College and earned a Degree in Nursing. &nbsp; With her love to travel, she practiced nursing in Utah and California and while living in Phoenix, Arizona, having perfect diction, she read books on the radio where she met her current husband, Bob Shanahan. &nbsp; Lucille had a love for gardening and everyone who visited her home enjoyed her extensive flower gardens.&nbsp; She became very devoted again to her childhood parish of St. Joseph Church and loved to garden their landscape well into her later years.&nbsp; Lucille is survived by her husband, Robert Shanahan of Hays; two sisters, Zita (Robert “Bob”) Zimmerman, Catherine “Cattie” John “Jack” Geyer, both of Canon City, Colorado; brother-in-law, Mark Weigel of Wakeeney, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Patricia Rupp of Wichita, Kansas. &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sophia Rupp; siblings, Marcellus Rupp; Alice (Ambrose) Herrman, Albina “Sandy” (Kenneth) Moore, Irene (Clarence) Leiker, Severin (Alice) Rupp, Harry “Rusty” (Terry) Rupp, Virgil “Blackie” Rupp, Mary (Eugene “Lefty”) Werth, Marcellus “Mark” (Patricia) Rupp, Anna “Annie” (Howard) Cox, Rudolph “Hank” (Elizabeth “Betty”) Rupp, and Pauline “Gigi” Weigel. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, October 10, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with burial to follow in the St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor, Kansas. Fr. Richard Daise will be officiating.

Lucille was born on May 5, 1930 to Joseph and Sophia (Pfannenstiel) Rupp. Lucille was the eleventh child of fifteen, growing up on a farm near Liebenthal and La Crosse, Kansas until the family moved to Hays.&nbsp; That same day she enrolled as a Freshman at Girls Catholic High School.&nbsp; She graduated from GCHS in 1948, attended St. Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kansas, from 1949-1953 graduating with a degree in Music.&nbsp; God gifted Lucille with an outstanding coloratura singing voice with a range of 3½ octaves. She could reach 3-4 notes above ‘High C’ and 3-4 notes below ‘Low C’.&nbsp; Lucille made several vocal recordings to submit to the Fulbright Scholarship Board, which her family now cherishes. She sang solos at GCHS and at various events in the Hays area and received the Fulbright Scholarship award to study voice in Vienna, Austria.&nbsp; She also performed in operas in Vienna. &nbsp; When the scholarship funding was ending in 1956, Lucille became employed with the US Atomic Energy Commission as a US Federal Employee to personally continue funding her vocal training.&nbsp; Lucille loved to travel and experience other cultures. She traveled to Sri Lanka, India in the late 50’s to study the Indian culture before returning home to Hays where she again enrolled in Fort Hays State College and earned a Degree in Nursing. &nbsp; With her love to travel, she practiced nursing in Utah and California and while living in Phoenix, Arizona, having perfect diction, she read books on the radio where she met her current husband, Bob Shanahan. &nbsp; Lucille had a love for gardening and everyone who visited her home enjoyed her extensive flower gardens.&nbsp; She became very devoted again to her childhood parish of St. Joseph Church and loved to garden their landscape well into her later years.&nbsp; Lucille is survived by her husband, Robert Shanahan of Hays; two sisters, Zita (Robert “Bob”) Zimmerman, Catherine “Cattie” John “Jack” Geyer, both of Canon City, Colorado; brother-in-law, Mark Weigel of Wakeeney, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Patricia Rupp of Wichita, Kansas. &nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sophia Rupp; siblings, Marcellus Rupp; Alice (Ambrose) Herrman, Albina “Sandy” (Kenneth) Moore, Irene (Clarence) Leiker, Severin (Alice) Rupp, Harry “Rusty” (Terry) Rupp, Virgil “Blackie” Rupp, Mary (Eugene “Lefty”) Werth, Marcellus “Mark” (Patricia) Rupp, Anna “Annie” (Howard) Cox, Rudolph “Hank” (Elizabeth “Betty”) Rupp, and Pauline “Gigi” Weigel. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, October 10, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays with burial to follow in the St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor, Kansas. Fr. The increased reward amount is available until the end of October, as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness month. Each of the featured fugitives is wanted on felony domestic violence charges for crimes that occurred in Wichita and Sedgwick County.

Bobby Vinson Jr., wanted by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for Aggravatey Battery; Choke in rude manner. He is a 28 year old black male, 5’10” tall, 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

&nbsp;Brandon D. Dean, wanted by the Wichita Police Department for Aggravated Domestic Battery/Strangulation and also has an active Sedgwick County Warrant. He is a 31 year old black male, 6’1” tall, 173 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Brandon K. Smith, wanted by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for a felony probation violation warrant related to domestic violence charges. He is a 47 year old black male, 5’7” tall and 240 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

Police offering reward to locate Kan. domestic violence suspects

Heaven has claimed the life of Joy C. Johnson of Manhattan, KS. She was 83 years old and died peacefully on October 4, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills. She fought a battle with cancer for the last year. Joy
 was born on May 1, 1939 in Plainville, KS to Louis and Opal Hrabe. She 
was a graduate of&nbsp; Stockton High School, class of 1957. She moved to 
Manhattan, KS to attend ManhattanChristian College where she met the 
love of her life, Dennis Johnson. They were married on December 20, 
1958. Dennis and Joy raised two children, Judy Jo (1960) and 
David Duane (1961). They spent their early married years in Abilene, KS 
where Dennis worked at KP&amp;L and Joy received a bachelor’s degree 
from Marymount College in Salina, KS. Joy taught social sciences at 
Abilene High School. They also managed the King Solomon Christian Camp 
near Solomon, KS while working their jobs in Abilene. Joy was well known
 for her excellent homemade food she prepared for the campers each 
summer. The Lord called them to move to Manhattan, KS and join 
the Manhattan Christian College family. They held several job positions 
depending on the needs of the College. After the high school graduations
 of their children from Manhattan High School, Dennis and Joy moved to 
the Johnson family farm south of Abilene, KS to take care of Grandpa 
Frank and the farm. During this time, Joy enjoyed raising a few horses 
and showing them with her daughter and grandchildren. She won several 
awards on the Eastern Kansas Horseman’s Association and made many friends. Faith
 and Family were a big part of Joy’s life. She cherished her personal 
relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ. She loved studying her Bible
 and preparing Bible lessons to share with others. She also loved 
playing the piano and organ for church services. Joy was a faithful member
 of the First Christian Church in Abilene and the University Christian 
Church in Manhattan. Joy was a loving, caring grandmother who was very generous. She loved spending as much time as she could with her 
grandchildren and her great granddaughters even as she was battling cancer during the past year. Joy
 is survived by her daughter, Judy Parsons and husband, Bob of Hugoton, 
KS; sons David Johnson and wife Keiko of Manhattan and Bill Watt and 
wife, Katherine of Junction City, KS; Grandchildren Eli Gantenbein, 
Salina; Levi Gantenbein and wife Katelyn, Manhattan; Claire Johnson, 
San Diego, CA and Donny Johnson, Manhattan. Great granddaughters Emma 
and Amelia Gantenbein, Manhattan. Her sisters Betty Raney of CA and 
Phyllis Hart of Plainville; and her brother, Debert Hrabe and wife 
Jeanne of Overland Park, KS. She will be missed by her many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Johnson; her parents; her step father, Leo Bonneau; her brother Doyal Hrabe. A
 private family celebration is being planned for the near future.

Joy C. Johnson 

Jason Lee Brown, age 44, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in Hays, Kansas. Jason was born in Hays on January 28, 1978, to Walter Dale and Penny Louise (Cain) Brown. He graduated from Trego Community High School and continued his education at Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland, Kansas, where he trained in diesel technology.

Jason was previously married, and was engaged to the love of his life, Dawnna. He worked as a heavy diesel mechanic for Flatlander Dirtworks at the time of his passing. Jason was an avid hunter with a lifetime hunter’s license, enjoyed fishing, cooking, barbecuing, gardening, curing jerky, and even made his own moonshine.&nbsp;

Jason was a true family man who loved his dog Lilo. He was very lucky with the lotto and would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles lodge #3774 in WaKeeney.

Jason is survived by his fiancé Dawnna Bostick of WaKeeney;&nbsp;step-son Michael Burbach;&nbsp;step-daughter Karlee Burbach&nbsp;and&nbsp;son-in-law John Jarrell of Salina;&nbsp;step-daughter Raina Bostick, of WaKeeney; father Walter (Janet) Brown, of Cimarron, Kansas, and mother Penny Anderson of WaKeeney; daughters Kassie and Abigail Brown; granddaughter Elayna Jarrell and grandson Ayden Jackson; brother Jeffrey (fiancé Roxy Ellis) of WaKeeney; sister Melissa Marie Rothgeb of Cimarron; nephew Trenton Brown; niece Makala Brown; and many aunts and uncles.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and stepfather David Anderson.

Jason Lee Brown

David Earl Harding passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, after battling prostate cancer. 
 David was born in Isabel, Kansas to Earl Everett Harding and Margaret 
(Thompson) Harding on September 4, 1940. He grew up working on the 
family farm, hunting and fishing, participating in Scouts, and playing 
sports. He graduated from Isabel High School in 1958 and attended Pratt 
Junior College in Pratt, Kansas, on a basketball scholarship, continuing 
his education at Kansas State University and Fort Hays State while 
working to put himself through school. David was recruited to 
the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1962 as one of the youngest troopers ever 
hired in the state. His patrol territories included Hutchison, Russell, 
and Hays, where his specialties were nabbing DUIs, car chases, and 
recovering stolen vehicles. David was introduced to Doris A. Jorns on a 
blind date in 1963 and they married later that year in August, 1963. A 
son, Reece, was born in 1966, David’s own “Little Trooper” who 
eventually grew up to serve on the Wichita city police force. 
David began a more than 30-year career with Farmers Insurance Group 
(FIG) in 1968 as a Claims Adjuster in Wichita, Kansas. While living in 
Wichita, a daughter, Ann Marie, was born in 1971. Much like her father, 
she was in a hurry to arrive, and they almost didn’t make it to the 
hospital in time. In 1976, David accepted a promotion from FIG and moved
 the family to Denver, Colorado, and soon thereafter to Colorado 
Springs, Colorado, where he worked as a Regional Budget Manager. In 
1984, he was promoted to Branch Claims Manager in the Moore, Oklahoma 
FIG office. While in Moore, he also served as the FIG Liability Manager 
for the state of Oklahoma, tasked with managing a $500 million budget 
and supervising a team of over 100 employees. David retired from Farmers
 Insurance Group in 2003. In retirement, David enjoyed working
 on old cars, especially his 1949 Ford, taking care of his lawn and 
garden, eating out and grilling at home, watching football games, 
fishing, traveling to see his grandchildren- of whom he was always very 
proud! - and spending time with family and friends. David is 
preceded in death by his parents Earl and Margaret. He is survived by 
his wife of 59 years, Doris, his son Reece Harding, daughter Ann Ashmon,
 son-in-law Scott Ashmon, grandchildren Gunnar and Elsa Ashmon, and his 
siblings Evelyn (Jack) Jessup, Shirley (Joe) Wood, Vicki (Dennis) Chinn,
 and Vernon (Mary Lou) Harding, as well as several nieces and nephews. 
 A visitation will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. - 
8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-8 at Larrison Mortuary, 
300 Country Club Road, Pratt. A Celebration of Life will be held at 
10:30 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 
Natrona. Burial will follow at Turon Cemetery, Turon. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in care of Larrison Mortuary.&nbsp;

1984, he was promoted to Branch Claims Manager in the Moore, Oklahoma 
FIG office. While in Moore, he also served as the FIG Liability Manager 
for the state of Oklahoma, tasked with managing a $500 million budget 
and supervising a team of over 100 employees. David retired from Farmers
 Insurance Group in 2003. In retirement, David enjoyed working
 on old cars, especially his 1949 Ford, taking care of his lawn and 
garden, eating out and grilling at home, watching football games, 
fishing, traveling to see his grandchildren- of whom he was always very 
proud! - and spending time with family and friends. David is 
preceded in death by his parents Earl and Margaret. He is survived by 
his wife of 59 years, Doris, his son Reece Harding, daughter Ann Ashmon,
 son-in-law Scott Ashmon, grandchildren Gunnar and Elsa Ashmon, and his 
siblings Evelyn (Jack) Jessup, Shirley (Joe) Wood, Vicki (Dennis) Chinn,
 and Vernon (Mary Lou) Harding, as well as several nieces and nephews. 
 A visitation will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. - 
8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6-8 at Larrison Mortuary, 
300 Country Club Road, Pratt. A Celebration of Life will be held at 
10:30 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 
Natrona. Burial will follow at Turon Cemetery, Turon. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation in care of Larrison Mortuary.&nbsp;

David Earl Harding

Gail Jean Williams was born July 1, 1941, in Montezuma, Kansas, to 
Ralph and Flossie (Leighton) Perkins. She passed away October 4, 2022, in
 Salina, KS at the age of 81.

Gail attended high school at Hays 
High School and graduated in 1959. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s
 at Pittsburg State University and Master’s degree from Fort Hays State 
University. She was a teacher in Goodland, KS for many years but also 
taught in Pittsburg and St. Francis, KS. Gail and John David “Dave” 
Williams shared 30+ years together, then on March 18, 2006, they were 
united in marriage in Wilson, KS .

Gail was an avid reader and 
enjoyed quilting, even after losing her vision she switched to 
audiobooks and continued to quilt. She also enjoyed gardening, 
traveling, and listening to podcasts. She loved keeping in touch with 
her friends and was an animal lover. Gail was most proud of being a 
grandma. She was an active “get down on the floor and play” kind of 
grandma and loved doing experiments, playing trucks, and playing endless
 games of UNO with them.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents
 and brothers, Larry and Don Perkins. She is survived by her husband, 
Dave of Rexford, KS; children: Robert Walter of Sundance, WY, Lee (Anne)
 Walter of Everett, WA and Diane (Jason) Frazier of McPherson, KS; 
grandchildren: Callie Walter, Gavin Frazier, and Nolan Frazier, and 
sister-in-law, Wanda Perkins of Pittsburg, KS.

Memorial services 
will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00AM at the Rexford 
Community Church. Burial in Rexford Cemetery.

Gail Jean Williams

Norton resident Delmer Stewart passed away at the Norton County Hospital on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the age of 69.

He was born on April 6, 1953, in Los Alamitos, California, to Delmer and Myrtle "Jean" (Clark) Stewart.

Delmer was married to Nancy Scheimo on March 22, 1997, in Norton, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Stewart, parents Delmer and Myrtle "Jean" Stewart, and his brother Richard Davis.

Survivors include his daughters Kristin Stewart, Rachel Stewart, 
Helen Stewart, and Mary Jane Stewart, son Justin Scheimo, brothers Mike 
Davis of&nbsp;Florida, Steve Stewart of California, Robert Davis of North 
Carolina, Scott Stewart of Nevada, sisters Cyndi Turri of Minnesota, 
Dorinda Micks of Iowa, Shelly Timm of California, and Janine Stewart of 
Nevada.

Cremation was planned. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donald Gene Goetz, “Donnie,” 66, passed away on Tuesday September 6, 2022, at his home in Giddings, Texas. 

Donnie was born on November 20, 1955, in Russell, Kansas, to Donald Adair Goetz and Jackie Jean (Dwinelle) Goetz. Don was a very adventurous child and “wished he was born with wings."

He went on to get his pilot’s license and enjoyed hang gliding, and ultralight planes. Don married Denise Walker in 1976, this union was blessed with two twin daughters Astrid, and Aura.&nbsp;They later divorced, and Don remarried Liz Smith, this union was blessed with two daughters, Kristen and Erin. They later divorced and Don was later united in marriage to Dorothy Cooke, and she proceeds him in death. Don worked as an independent truck driver for Prime Trucking for 26 years and received his 3-million-mile award. Among other hobbies, he enjoyed cooking, gardening, and telling jokes.&nbsp;<a></a>

He was proceeded in death by his father, Donald Goetz, wife, Dorothy Goetz, and an infant brother, David Goetz.&nbsp;

Don is survived by his four daughters, Aura (Paul) Davis of Hays KS, Astrid (Matt) Chatham of Oklahoma City, Erin (Richard) Randall of Iowa, Kristen (Tony) Barnes of Iowa, Mother Jackie Goetz, two sisters, Jaylene Franke&nbsp;(Melvin)&nbsp;and Janna&nbsp;(Craig)&nbsp;Johnson. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Madison, Olivia, Gavin, Caroline, Lana, and Reagan.&nbsp;

A Service and luncheon&nbsp;will be held in Russell at&nbsp;Meridy’s&nbsp;restaurant&nbsp;October 22,2022, at 12 pm.

Donald Gene 'Donnie' Goetz

A bright light was extinguished September 30, 2022, when William H. Klein Jr., age 97, took his last breath.

Bill was born on the family dairy farm southeast of Plains, Kansas, 
March 28, 1925. He was the last of 5 children and the only son. His 
sisters and mother, Dollie Elmena Packard Klein, spoiled him while his 
dad and namesake, William Henry Klein Sr., demanded hard work and strict
 discipline. Young Billie began milking cows at age 5-a mandatory chore,
 twice daily, for the next 11 years instilling a strong work ethic that 
served him well.

In the 7th grade a new music teacher arrived in Plains and discovered
 Bill’s natural, angelic, tenor voice. It was a gift he shared with the 
community as soloist for weddings, funerals, talent shows, church choir,
 and men’s groups. His final public performance was at age 87 when he 
sang a duet with his then 7-year-old niece, Grace. A birthday phone call
 to a family member regaling them with the Happy Birthday song was a 
treasured experience that he continued until his death.

Just days after his high school graduation, Bill declined an 
agricultural deferment to join the US Army Air Corps. He returned 2 
years later a 2nd Lieutenant with wings pinned to his lapel. The war 
ended before he could deploy with his flight crew as a bombardier.

It was the Fall of 1947 when Bill married his lovely, red-headed, 
childhood friend, Ruby Janice Jacobs. They sped off to California in a 
new Ford convertible for their 6-week honeymoon. The wheat crop that 
year had been bountiful and sold for $2/bushel. Within 3 years they were
 homesteading on a farm 20 miles southeast of Tribune WITHOUT 
electricity, running water, an indoor toilet or a telephone; and WITH a 
toddler, Kandee Kae, and a baby, William Huntley. Later, Rock Alan 
followed by Kellee Jo completed the family.

Farming and ranching were the core of Bill’s dry land 
agribusiness-growing wheat, milo and ensilage then grazing heifer calves
 on wheat pasture over the winter. It was a gamble to farm and ranch on 
this arid, finicky prairie; he prevailed with perseverance through the 
best and worst of times. The farm lives on! In the 1970’s he joined 
other community investors to purchase the First National Bank of Tribune
 and sat on the Board of Directors for 29 years.

Bill was a founding member of his beloved “Lunch Bunch”-a group of 
fun- loving individuals who gathered every weekday for lunch at the 
Dixon Drug cafe. Known for his personal and financial generosity, Bill 
could not turn his head to a person or a community organization in need 
and likely contributed to every fundraiser ever held in Greeley County!

However, Bill Klein will be remembered most for his charismatic, 
uplifting SPIRIT; his always-present SMILE and most of all, for his 
legendary, truly- unforgettable LAUGH. He always cited his family as 
his most valued legacy: his wife of 75 years, Janice, to whom he gave 
all the credit for raising their 4 children; Hunt (Vickie) Klein, Rock 
(Teri) Klein, Kellee (Chris) Dixon, and Kandee Klein. He loved and was 
so proud of his 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren,

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Myra (Olus) 
Vail , Ethel (Pete) McCormick, Agnes (Elwood) Hill, Shirley (Russel) 
McLaughlin, and daughter-in-law, Marilyn Smith Klein.

His life will be celebrated Saturday, October 22, 2022, 11:00 MST at 
the Tribune United Methodist Church pastored by Jeri Farmer Smith.
