Barbara Jean Wood, 72, of Salina, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022. She was born July 8, 1950, in Ransom, Kansas.

She worked as a trust clerk / teller for UMB Bank in Salina for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan E and Dorothy A. S. (Roths) Stetler, and her husband, Earl Wood.

Survivors include her 3 sons, Jeff &nbsp;Wood of Salina, Jeremy (Heather) 
Wood of Bennington, and Jason (Patty) Wood of Salina, her sister, Jan 
(Don) Leiker of Strasburg, Colorado, 6 grandchildren, 4 nephews and 1 
niece.

Cremation has been chosen and a memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Barbara Jean Wood

Jeremy David Dixon, age 40, of Hays, Kansas passed away October 14, 2022, in Colorado after a very long, brave, and hard-fought battle with Combat PTSD.&nbsp;He was born January 1, 1982, at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland to David Dixon and Robin Low. Jeremy attended college and earned an Associates of Business degree. On February 10, 2022, he married his best friend Heather Nicole Stremel in Hays after dating for a few years.&nbsp;

Jeremy was a US Marine veteran with the rank of Sergeant.&nbsp;He joined the US Marine Corps in 2003 where he was a helicopter mechanic. He went on his first deployment to Iraq from 2004 to 2005. It was there that he was on the front lines during the second battle of Fallujah, while although short, was the bloodiest battle in our Nation's history since the Vietnam War. Jeremy deployed a second time to Afghanistan from 2006 to 2007. It was the first deployment and his time in Fallujah that created a daily battle with the demons of war that would haunt him until his last day on earth.&nbsp; He was so proud to have met and married a US Navy Hospital Corpsman, always saying that he had found his very own Doc to take care of him.&nbsp; He tried with all his might to battle those demons, staying strong in his faith in God the entire time. Jeremy had the heart of a warrior. Ask anyone close to him about what he had been through in his lifetime and they'd tell you he made it through so much with a fighting spirit.

Jeremy was most recently working as a Heavy Equipment Operator with the Trego County Road and Bridge department. He had worked at Stanion Wholesale in Hays, as well as a project manager for a flooring company in Denver prior to moving to Kansas.

Jeremy enjoyed riding his Harley side by side with Heather on hers.&nbsp; He LOVED sports.&nbsp; Sundays were dedicated to football, and he would be up at 7 am sharp with his Broncos jersey on ready to go.&nbsp; He had the ability to remember sporting events by date, score, plays, and even the weather that day.&nbsp; You could ask him where any athlete went to college and he could instantly rattle it off.&nbsp; Heather always called him a “savant” - she was absolutely enamored by his beautiful, gifted mind.&nbsp; Behind closed doors, Jeremy was a big teddy bear.&nbsp; No matter what kind of day he had, he wanted to make sure those he loved were ok, and he gave the best hugs when they were needed.&nbsp; He was an avid dog lover.&nbsp; His pride and joy was his 150 pound Blue Merle Great Dane, Teufel, but he loved all 5 other animals of his and loved having a cuddle puddle in bed after a long day, with all the animals snuggled up between and on top of him and Heather.&nbsp; He enjoyed fly fishing, camping with his kids, going through his and Titan’s baseball card collection, road trips, and watching Bill Burr stand-up, Seinfeld, and Chapelle’s Show on repeat with Heather (he could recite just about every word from both shows).&nbsp; Laughter was always the best medicine for him.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Toward the end of his life, Jeremy was passionate about helping people succeed with their sobriety, while silently struggling with his own.&nbsp; His number one goal was to see that those he loved didn’t struggle with addiction the way he did.&nbsp; He’d drop everything to be by anyone’s side, friend or foe, just to make sure they made it through the night sober.

He is survived by his wife, Heather of Hays; his mother and step father, Robin Mitchell and Curtis of Conway, Missouri; his children, Titan Joseph Dixon of Hays and Rayne Rene Dixon of Northglenn, Colorado; his step children, Patrick Spencer Banzhaf of Hays and Kaeley Elizabeth Banzhaf of Lakewood, Colorado; his brothers, Joshua (Katelyn) Templeton of Scottsbluff, Nebraska and James (Beka) Pendleton of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister, Jessica Dixon (Brian Hedrick) of Kiowa, Colorado; his grandfather Terry (Karen) Low of Clute, Texas, and his grandmother, who he adored and lovingly referred to as “Grams”, Joanna Patterson of Lindale, Texas.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Templeton and grandparents, Ken Patterson and Robert “Troy” Troyanski.

Memorial services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Kansas State Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kansas, with a reception following at the VFW in Hays.&nbsp; All are invited- we want to show Jeremy just how loved he was.&nbsp; The family requests that those who wish to drive to the cemetery in procession meet at Brock’s-Keithley Funeral Chapel at 2:00 pm that day.

Jeremy David Dixon

Mason David Roach, 28, passed away October 19, 2022, in rural Russell
 County, Kan. He was born February 9, 1994, to Rick Rathbun and Lisa 
Roach.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Mason was a batchman for Concrete 
Services. He was a Lego fanatic, enjoyed playing his music loud and 
strumming his guitar. He loved spending time with his family but 
especially fond of spending time with his precious daughter, Emberlynn.

Survivors include, his mother, Lisa Anderson of Great Bend; his 
fianceé, Emily DeLaurentis and daughter, Emberlynn Roach of the home; a 
brother, Garrett Rathbun and wife Maggie of Tyler, Tex.; two sisters, 
Allison Mietler and Jeff of Great Bend and Ashley Fronterhouse of 
Amarillo, Tex.; his bonus dad of many years, Rick Anderson of Abilene; 
and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, 
Rick Rathbun.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 
2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 3:00 to
 5:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 
24, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Fisher presiding.

Mason David Roach

Marilyn Kay (Corwin) Adolf was born February 4, 1939, to Andrew 
Wesley and Nida Hope (Sanders) Corwin in Gordon, Nebraska. She was the 
fourth of six children.

The family moved to Colorado in the spring of 1947 to a farm 
northwest of Vona.&nbsp; Marilyn attended school in Seibert until the 
district line between Seibert and Vona was moved. At that point she 
began attending Vona in the seventh grade graduating from Vona High 
School in 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Shortly after high school, she was married to Kenneth Pottorff from 
Stratton, CO on October 28, 1956.&nbsp; There were six children born to this 
union:&nbsp; one son; Kenneth Marc in 1957, and five daughters; Kimberly Kay 
in 1959, Jenny Jo in 1961, twins Jill Lynne and Julie Leigh in 1968, and
 Valoree Ann in 1970.&nbsp; Marilyn enjoyed being a housewife and a 
stay-at-home mom.&nbsp; This marriage ended in 1984.

Marilyn always had a heart for people. Once she entered the 
workforce, she had new opportunities to bless others with her genuine 
smile and joy. For many years, she worked in the restaurant on sale days
 at the Stratton Sale Barn. The other days of the week, she worked in 
their office.&nbsp; Later, she was a receptionist/assistant for Drs. Jones 
&amp; Williams in Burlington, CO, until the business sold in 2008.&nbsp; She 
held this position for seventeen years. During her retirement she had 
the joy of providing childcare for two of her grandkids, LeAnn and Caleb
 Tanner.

While working at the sale barn, Marilyn met her best friend and 
second husband, Harold Adolf.&nbsp; They had known each other for six years 
before they started dating.&nbsp; After a short courtship, Harold and Marilyn
 were united in marriage on August 11, 1990, in Stratton, CO. His three 
children, Tiger, Todd, and Sheri became a loving addition to her life.

Throughout their marriage Harold and Marilyn enjoyed 32 years united 
as one. They absolutely loved spending time together as well as with 
their growing family and many special friends. Their life on the farm 
was their little heaven on earth with her special dog, Cooper.

Marilyn put her faith in Jesus as the Lord of her life as a young 
girl.&nbsp; Her faith carried her through many joys and sorrows especially 
through the heartbreaking loss of her youngest daughter, Valoree Ann in 
1972 as well as her divorce.&nbsp; God proved Himself ever faithful 
transforming her brokenness and bitterness into healing and 
forgiveness.&nbsp; Marilyn demonstrated this life to her children and 
grandchildren through her complete dependence on her Savior.&nbsp; Her love 
for Jesus flowed into her home as she loved, cared for, and prayed for 
her family.

Marilyn was a longtime and active member of the Stratton United 
Methodist church where she served on several boards and was involved 
with the youth and Sunday school programs.&nbsp; She also enjoyed gardening, 
being an active member of the Stratton Garden Club, as well as playing 
Bridge with several ladies in the community.

After a two-year battle with advanced stages of Alzheimer’s, Marilyn 
was received by her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 13, 2022, 
Marilyn passed away at her home in Stratton, CO. She was 83 years old.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Harold Adolf; her 
children, Marc (Robbi) Pottorff of Goodland KS, Kim Davison of 
Burlington, CO, Jenny Reeverts of Burlington, CO, Jill (Joel) Tanner of 
Vona, CO and Julie (Mike) Myers of Frederick, CO; her three 
stepchildren, Tiger Adolf (Ed Thomas) of Vallejo, CA, Todd (Kim) Adolf, 
Morristown, AZ, and Sheri (Jon)Thompson of Fort Collins, CO; sixteen 
grandchildren Misti Pottorff, Melissa (Andy) Leavitt, Valoree (Dan) 
Luvato, Dana Davison, Colton Davison, Canaan (Bekah) Reeverts, Keala 
(Jason) Widdifield, Mackenzie (David) Nunez, Kaylynne (Eric) Hainey, 
Dillon (Shelby) Tanner, Nathan Tanner, LeAnn and Caleb Tanner, Mason 
Myers, Gavin (Riley) Myers, and Dane Myers; and five step grandchildren 
Bryan Thomas, Carolyn (Jacob) Helms, Makayla Adolf, Logan Vaughn, and 
Denton Vaughn.&nbsp; As well as twenty-two great grandchildren, plus one more
 on the way.&nbsp; She is also survived by her sister-in-law Velda (Raymond) 
Dobler of Burlington, CO.

Marilyn Kay (Corwin) Adolf

Willis Clifton "Bill" Bieker went to be
 with his Savior on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at his home in Hays, 
Kansas. Bill was 77 years of age.

He was born on February 19, 1945, in 
Hays, Kansas, to Wilfred and Ruby (Dinkel) Bieker. &nbsp;He graduated from 
Hays High School where he loved and excelled in sports. He then enlisted
 in the U.S. Air Force and was on active duty, stationed in France, for 
four years.

After returning to the states, Bill met
 the love of his life, Judy Arpin, on Main Street in Hays.&nbsp; On February 
3, 1968, they wed in Hays, Kansas, and began their 54 beautiful years of 
marriage together. &nbsp;During those years, Bill and Judy grew their family 
to include children Scott, Brian, and Danelle, and Bill truly enjoyed 
every minute with his family and many dear friends. &nbsp;The ordinaries of 
life and the comforts of home always gave Bill great joy and 
contentment, but the greatest comfort in the latter years of his life 
came from his relationship with Jesus, his Lord and Savior. &nbsp;In his last
 years, Bill could frequently be heard saying “I trust Jesus”.

Survivors include his wife Judy of 
Hays, sons: Scott (Molly) Bieker of Olathe and Brian (Dallas) Bieker of 
Manhattan, daughter: Danelle Bieker of Hays, foster daughter: Shannon 
(Sam) Leach of Tennessee, and brother: Rick (Judy) Bieker of Salina, his
 grandchildren: Adrienne Bieker of Overland Park, Alexis Bieker (Gabe) 
Fletcher of Manhattan, Cole Bieker of Manhattan, Macy Bieker of Tulsa, 
OK, Justin Bieker and Abbie Bieker, both of Hays, foster grandchildren:

Willis Clifton 'Bill' Bieker

Nancy Marian (Helfrich) McBride, 80, died October 18, 2022, at St. 
Catherine Hospital, Garden City, Kansas. She was born March 21, 1942, at
 Syracuse, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Virginia H. Wilt Helfrich. 
She married Donald Geier on October 21, 2012, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He survives. 
Nancy was a generous, creative, and empowered woman who was a force to 
be reckoned with, especially when it impacted her family. She raised 
her six children and worked fulltime. She was a one-stop shop for her 
children and grandchildren. She was their cosmologist, plumber, general
 contractor, seamstress and tailor, chef, artist, therapist, mediator, 
gardener, fountain of knowledge, and so much more! There was nothing 
she could not do, and if you ever doubted her, she would prove you 
wrong. She worked at Plaza Medical Center for 40+ years and would go 
head-to-head with insurance companies on their patient's behalf. She 
didn’t back down, while still displaying grace and courtesy, when 
dealing with some of the most stubborn, strong-willed people you will 
ever meet. These stubborn, strong-willed people included her children 
and grandchildren, which she loved so very much. 
Nancy was a devout Catholic at St. Mary Catholic Church and incorporated
 her faith in her daily life by treating others how she would want to be
 treated. She was always willing to support anyone in need, no matter 
in what capacity. She adopted a family every Christmas and when she 
could, she would take the time to get to know the family and go above 
and beyond to provide the best holiday for them. Nancy was the type of 
person that you would want to be when you grew-up, even if you are 
already an adult. She set the bar high but had reasonable expectations 
for all. This world would be a much better place if we all strived to 
be like her. 
Many individuals are impacted by her unexpected loss, and we will never 
be able to fill the gap in our lives or in the world. Some of the small
 things that would be missed will be - walking into her home and being 
greeted and then given a tour of her latest project, whether it be an 
art project, remodel, or out in the yard with her beautiful flowers; Her
 cream corn at Thanksgiving dinner; The hour-long conversations about 
anything; The mile long text messages….so many things that are too 
numerous to mention all. 
We love you to the moon and back and more, Mom, Grandma D, Wife, Sister, and Friend.

Nancy Marian (Helfrich) McBride

Nancy Kay (McGavran) Robbins went to be with our Heavenly Father on October 19, 2022, at the age of 84.

Nancy was born April 15, 1938, in 
Abilene, KS to Carl and Rovena (Windhorst) McGavran. Nancy graduated in 
1956 from Minneapolis High School. She married Eugene E. Robbins July 15,
 1956, at the Methodist Church in Wells, KS.

Nancy and Eugene (Gene) were married for 34 years before he preceded her in death April 12, 1990.

During their marriage, Gene and Nancy 
welcomed five daughters. Nancy was a loving mother, wife, and homemaker.
 For each daughter, she was room-mother, Girl Scout Troop Leader, 
“beautician" and seamstress.

Nancy worked at numerous places in the 
community, including Boogaart’s, Perry’s Liquor, ElDorado and the 
bowling alley. Nancy is fondly remembered for her many years at the 
bowling alley. She was an avid bowler and Gene built her a special 
cabinet for her many trophies. In 1991, Dean Johnson offered her a job 
at the City Pharmacy. Nancy loved this job and most of all, her pharmacy
 family. She worked at the pharmacy for 29 years before retiring in 
2020.

Nancy enjoyed sports, she attended many 
Minneapolis High School football and basketball games. You always knew 
where to find her when the Royals, Chiefs, or KU Jayhawks were on TV.

She is survived by her five daughters, 
Sharon Hatfield of Lincoln, KS; Karen Arias and husband Jairo of Hays, 
KS; Janet Robbins of Wamego, KS; Jill Robbins and partner Hans Cathers 
of Hays, KS; Jeannie Robbins of Minneapolis, KS; twelve grandchildren, 
twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; 
brothers, Fred, Ray, and Tom McGavran. She is also survived by her best 
friend of sixty years, Di Fraser. At one of her family reunions, Nancy 
looked at her large family and exclaimed “I started all this!”&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her 
parents; her husband Eugene; sister Deanna Cross; son-in-law Curt Roach;
 father and mother- in-law, Frank and Wilma Robbins; brother-in-law Dean
 Robbins; and sister-in-law Dolly Mae Andrla.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 23 
from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Wilson Family Funeral Home 405 Argyle 
Ave., Minneapolis, KS, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 
to 6:00. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, October 24 at 
the First United Methodist Church 418 N Rock St., Minneapolis, and 
burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery Minneapolis.

Nancy Kay (McGavran) Robbins

Gladys Mae Brack, 90, passed away on October 20, 2022, at Cumbernauld
 Village, Winfield, Kan. She was born on May 10, 1932, on the family 
farm, outside of Albert, Kan., to Fred &amp; Anna (Hemken) Harders. On 
July 20, 1952, she married Billy Brack at Trinity Lutheran Church in 
Great Bend, Kan. He passed on July 26, 2014.

Residing in Winfield since 2015, Gladys was a longtime resident of 
rural Albert, moving to Great Bend in 1997. Gladys took pride in being a
 farm wife and was very active in the day to day duties.&nbsp; A life time 
member of the Lutheran denomination, she was baptized and confirmed at 
Peace Lutheran in rural Albert, was a former member of Our Savior 
Lutheran Church in Great Bend, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran 
Church in Winfield. Gladys was a committed church member who dedicated 
many years of service as a Sunday School teacher.&nbsp; She loved to crochet 
and spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four sons, Paul (Karen) Brack of Paola, Kan., Mark 
(Lisa) Brack of Albert, Kan., Charles (Tammy) Brack of Sedgwick, Kan., 
and Norman (Vickie) Brack of Beauford, Mo.; two daughters, Mary (Chris) 
Kellogg of Gallup, N. Mex., and Judy (Martin) Ray of Winfield; 
twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty-three great-grandchildren. She is
 preceded in death by her husband; her parents; six brothers, Alan, 
Ralph, Delmer, Robert, Martin, and Marion Harders; and a sister, Marge 
Murphy.

Visitation will take place from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October
 25, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from

He was born April 4, 1953, in Sacramento, California, the son of William Donald and Leona Arlene Fought McCrary.

A longtime area resident, he was a retired hotel clerk. He enjoyed 
fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his grandkids. He 
served in the United States Navy.

Survivors include: his mother, Leona McCrary, Hutchinson; two sons, 
Aaron (Benjamin Capp) McCrary, St. Louis, Missouri, Andrew (Shanda) 
McCrary, Larned; daughter, Katherine (Duane) Obermiller, Larned; two 
brother, William Daniel McCrary, Rhode Island, Wayne Dale McCrary, 
Hutchinson; nine grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Little One.

He was preceded in death by his father, and two brothers, Willard Daryl McCrary and Walter Donald McCrary.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at 
Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 
p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2022, with family present from 3:00 p.m. to 
6:00 p.m. at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned 
Cemetery.

Linda Mae Fisher, age 71, of Hays, 
Kansas passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, in Hays. She was born 
October 31, 1950, in Hays to Mike U. and Georgine (Wasinger) Sander.

Linda graduated from Hays High in 
1971&nbsp;and on May 5, 1973, she married Francis J. Fisher Jr. Linda had 
worked at McDonald's for 39 years primarily as a Crew Trainer. She was a 
member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

Linda loved people and enjoyed 
decorating especially for the holidays. She enjoyed spending time with 
family cooking meals, spoiling them whenever she could and talking on 
the phone with them whenever she could. She liked westerns and crime 
shows, Elvis and keeping her house nice and tidy. Linda always made 
everyone feel special.

She is survived by her husband, Francis
 of Hays; two sons, Sean Fisher and wife Renee of Hays and Cory Fisher 
of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Danielle Fisher of Hays; three 
brothers, Marvin, Larry (Rhonda) and Mike Sander all of Hays; Two 
sisters, Darlene Johnson and husband Bill of Berthoud, Colorado and 
Debra Kuhn of Hays; five grandchildren, Nick Fisher, Esperanza Palmer, 
Sofia Palmer, Jacob Fisher and Levi Fisher; a great grandson, Mateo 
Schmidt; mother-in-law, Josephine Fisher; her in-laws, Gerald Fisher 
(Brenda), Kenneth Fisher (Jodie), Mark Fisher (Melanie), Patricia Arias,
 Cynthia Lang (Floyd), Pamela McCormack, Wanda Staab (Lee), Sheila

She was preceded in death by her

Barbara Jean Strahm, 84, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, went home to be with 
the Lord on Monday, October 17, 2022.&nbsp; She was born on June 21, 1938, to
 Leon and Mae Wenger in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; In 1956, she graduated from 
Powhattan High School where she was active in 4-H and won a National 
Award for Frozen Foods from International Harvester.&nbsp; She started her 
career as a piano accompanist in high school because the music teacher 
was too busy.&nbsp; Barbara started giving piano lessons at the age of 12 and
 continued this profession for 70 years.&nbsp; In 1959, Barbara graduated 
from Kansas State University with a degree in English and Music.&nbsp; She 
was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.&nbsp;

On June 1, 1958, Barbara married Samuel Strahm.&nbsp; Following Sam’s 
graduation from Veterinary School, they moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma 
where Sam joined the Osage Animal Clinic. They had 3 children, Greg, 
Bryan, and Andrea.&nbsp; They were avid K-State football fans and Barbara 
still has season tickets to the games.

Barbara and Sam devoted their lives to serving veterinary medicine, 
education, the Pawhuska community, and Pawhuska First Baptist Church.&nbsp; 
For over 50 years they were involved with the American Veterinary 
Medical Association and the Cattlemen and Cattlewomen’s Association.&nbsp; 
They were both officers for these organizations with a goal to help the 
Cattleman and the Veterinarian work together.&nbsp; In 2013, Barbara was 
awarded the “Cattlewoman of the Year” award.&nbsp;

In 2017, Barbara was honored by the Osage County Historical Society as one of their “Heroes and Legends.”

Barbara was always there for her children and grandchildren, 
attending and supporting all their activities.&nbsp; She cherished all her 
piano students and enjoyed planning recitals and parties for them.&nbsp; 
Barbara was a state officer and member of GFWC where she enjoyed 
attending conventions with her mother and sisters.&nbsp; She was also a 
member of Heeko, PEO, and the Osage County Extension.&nbsp; Barbara 
volunteered for the Help Workshop, the Osage County Museum, the 
Constantine Theatre and was a docent for the Tulsa Opera.&nbsp; She was the 
church pianist for the First Baptist Church and helped with Vacation 
Bible School, Sunday School, and WMU.&nbsp; Barbara also enjoyed being the 
fill-in organist for numerous other Pawhuska churches.

Barbara is survived by her sons Greg Strahm, Bryan Strahm (Alicia), 
and daughter Andrea Enloe (Kim); grandchildren Sam, Silas (Haley), Kyle 
(Haylee), Rhett (Chyanne), Leah (Zach), and Cashman; sisters Anita 
Pfister (Ronald), Kathy Palermo (John), and brother Richard Wenger 
(Martha), Aunt Betty Barnes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Barbara’s greatest joy was spending time with her 3 great grandsons, 
Kasen, Wayland, and Beyer.&nbsp; She was looking forward to having 3 great 
granddaughters that are all due to be born in January, 2023.

There will be a visitation at Kendrick McCartney Johnson Funeral 
Home, Pawhuska, Thursday, October 20, 10am – 5pm.&nbsp; The family will be 
available from 3pm – 5pm to greet visitors.&nbsp; Funeral services will be 
held Friday, October 21, 11am, at the First Baptist Church of Pawhuska.&nbsp;
 Interment will follow at the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

The high temperature Sunday is expected to be in the mid-80s, with sustained southwest winds between 30 and 35 mph, with gusts as high as 70 mph. The wind, which is expected to continue well into Sunday night, is expected to cause "widespread blowing dust," which could affect visibility.

Coupled with the ongoing drought, vegetation beginning to go dormant, and no precipitation in the forecast, the risk of wildfires will be "near critical," the NWS predicted.

Sunday winds will bring fire risk, blowing dust to NW Kan.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A woman arrested in connection with an alleged hit-and-run death of a man in Wichita made her first court appearance in the case Tuesday.

<a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20079206">Ashley Corley, 36, Hutchinson, </a>is charged with first-degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident and a misdemeanor count of driving while license suspended or canceled, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Police arrested Corley on Saturday in connection with a traffic fatality that occurred Friday in the 3000 block of West 9th Street in Wichita.

Just before 8a.m.,&nbsp; police responded to 9th Street North and St. Paul in Wichita where they found 41-year-old Rigoberto Rivas in the street. He had head injuries and died at a local hospital, according to Officer Chad Ditch.&nbsp;

Investigators learned that Rivas and Corley were seen running toward a gray car parked on the curb at 9th Street. Corley allegedly entered the vehicle and drove away at a high rate of speed with Rivas on the hood. The car swerved and Rivas fell from the car.

A follow-up investigation led officers to believe the car was stolen.

Police investigators arrested Corley in Hutchison, transported her back to Wichita and booked her into the Sedgwick County Jail

&nbsp;On October 31, attorneys in the case are scheduled to discuss future dates with Judge Jeffrey Syrios, according to the district attorney's office. She remains jailed on a $500,000.&nbsp;

Kan. woman charged in death of man who fell from hood of a car

Shirley Ruth Leslie, 88, passed away October 20, 2022, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born December 21, 1933, in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Ruth Row Walker.

A Larned resident, she worked at the Larned State Hospital in the 
Reimbursement Office. She was a member of Larned United Methodist 
Church, United Methodist Women and D.A.R. She enjoyed volunteering at 
the UMW Budget Shop, traveling, golfing, fishing and reading.

On August 12, 1972, she married Dean Leslie in Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: daughters, Debra (Tom) Snyder, Larned, Patti
 (Don) Smithson, Arlington, Texas, Pam Almquist, Fort Worth, Texas; step
 son, Kevin (Cathy Jo) Leslie, Rock River, Wyoming; step daughter, Mary 
(Kevin) Yurchak, Melbourne Beach, Florida, Brenda (Richard)Winn, Mexico,
 Missouri; two brothers, Robert (Bob) Walker and William (Bill) Walker, 
Larned; twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and four 
great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents and a brother Duane Walker.

Marilyn Ruth (Bieker) Armstrong was born 
in Kansas City, KS, on December 11, 1926. She was adopted on August 19,
 1928, by Anthony John and Elizabeth Bieker (Boos) from Marienthal, KS.&nbsp;
 She attended parochial school for two years in Marienthal and then 
moved to Leoti, KS, where she completed her schooling and graduated from
 Wichita County High School in 1944.

Marilyn married Robert Wilson “R.W.” Clark (b. 1924, d. 2001) in 1944
 and was divorced in 1956.&nbsp; She raised her six beloved children: Richard
 Allen (b. 1947, d. 1998), Janelle Diane (b. 1948), Kathleen Anne (b. 
1950), Mark Wayne (b. 1953), Ruth Ellen (b. 1954), and Timothy Lee (b. 
1955).&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those years were quite an adventure, and Marilyn and her children 
love telling stories about those times still today!&nbsp; One of her favorite
 adventures was a trip west.&nbsp; They drove to Pueblo, CO, and from there, 
took the train to Grand Junction, CO, to visit R.W.’s sister, Margaret.&nbsp;
 The train stopped under the Royal Gorge Bridge and let passengers out 
to see the bridge.

As her children grew, Marilyn started to cut and dye ladies’ hair.&nbsp; 
She studied for the state board of cosmetology while an apprentice and 
passed the exam and became a licensed beautician.&nbsp; She was the 
proprietor of Marilyn's Beauty Shop in Leoti for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1973, Marilyn married Robert “Bob” Armstrong (b. 1933, d. 1990) in
 Leoti, KS.&nbsp; They enjoyed each other's company greatly. Marilyn also 
worked for a time at the local vet clinic to help with the animals.

In retirement, Marilyn lived for a time on Whidbey Island, WA.&nbsp; She 
moved back to Leoti and then on to Phoenix, AZ.&nbsp; There she enjoyed the 
warm weather, doted on her dogs Katie and Penny, and developed her 
passion for Diamondback baseball.&nbsp; She moved back to Leoti and lived for
 several years with her daughter Ruth before moving to the Leoti Care 
Center in 2021.

Marilyn was a devout Catholic her whole life and her faith saw her 
through every day.&nbsp; Besides her children and her dogs, Marilyn also 
loved to play cards including bridge, rummy, and spades.&nbsp; She also loved
 to read, and devoured books well into her 90s!

Vigil service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Leoti, Kansas.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Leoti, 
Kansas at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 with Father Tim Hickey
 presiding.&nbsp;

Interment will be at the Leoti Cemetery in Leoti, Kansas.

MACON, Georgia —Kansas Senator Roger Marshall made a campaign appearance Thursday in support of controversial&nbsp;Georgia Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker.

Allegations that Walker, a football icon, paid for a woman's abortion have rocked one of the nation's most important Senate matchups, according to the Associated Press.

 Walker is in a tight contest with Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, with the outcome potentially determining which party controls the Senate for the final two years of President Joe Biden's term.

&nbsp;Walker pitches himself as a politician who can bridge America’s racial and cultural divides because he loves everyone and overlooks differences.

“I don’t care what color you are,” Georgia’s Republican Senate nominee, who is Black, told an overwhelmingly white crowd recently in Bartow County, north of Atlanta. The United States, he said, “is a good place,” adding that ”a way we make it better is by coming together.”

Yet the former football star who calls all Georgians “my family” has staked out familiar conservative ground on America’s most glaring societal fissures, seemingly contradicting his promises of unity.

Walker says those who do not share his vision of the country can leave. He says his opponent, Sen. Raphael Warnock, and the Democratic Party are the real purveyors of division. He insists that their “wokeness” on race, transgender rights and other issues threatens U.S. power and identity.

“Sen. Warnock believes America is a bad country full of racist people,” Walker says in one ad, making a claim based on the fact that Warnock, who is also Black, has acknowledged institutional racism during his sermons as a Baptist minister. “I believe we’re a great country full of generous people,” Walker concludes.

That approach is not surprising in a state controlled for most of its history by white cultural conservatives, and it aligns Walker with many high-profile Republicans, including former President Donald Trump. But Walker’s arguments make for a striking contrast in a Senate contest featuring two Black men born in the Deep South during or immediately following the civil rights movement.

The strategy will face its fiercest test in the closing weeks of the campaign as Walker vehemently denies reports from The Daily Beast that he encouraged and paid for a woman’s 2009 abortion and later fathered a child with her. The New York Times reported Friday that he urged her to have a second abortion, a request that she refused. The Daily Beast also published new details provided by the woman about Walker’s lack of involvement with their child.

Such developments would typically sink a Republican candidate. Walker, however, is betting that the conservative ground he has staked out will win over voters singularly focused on retaking the Senate majority.

His advisers believe Walker’s rhetoric reflects the views of many Georgians, at least most who will vote this fall. Most specifically, it is an appeal to whites, including moderates who may be wary of the first-time candidate yet believe Democrats push too much social change.

The outcome could turn on how Walker’s pitch lands in an electorate younger, more urban, less white, and less native to Georgia than when Walker, 60, and Warnock, 53, grew up in the state.

But in his paid advertising, the pastor-politician casts himself mostly as a hardworking senator who has delivered results and federal money for Georgia.

Walker saves his hottest rhetoric for campaign events, where crowds are measured in the dozens or hundreds, rather than the thousands and millions watching carefully cultivated ads.

In one such ad, a smiling Walker talks of unity after a string of Democrats — Warnock, Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Georgia’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams — are heard discussing racism.

Addressing fellow Republicans, Walker maintains the smile but goes harder at the left, especially on transgender rights.

“They’re bringing wokeness in our military,” Walker said in Cumming. It was an apparent reference to the Pentagon allowing transgender persons to serve and have access to medical care.

“The greatest fighting force ever assembled before God (and) they’re talking about pronouns,” Walker said. “Are you serious? How do you identify? I can promise you right now China ain’t talking about how you can identify. They’re talking about war.”

Walker sometimes presents his mores as humor. “Y’all see it. They telling you what is a woman. Think about it,” he said in Bartow County, drawing laughter from voters. “That’s right,” he continued with a broad smile. “They’re telling you a man can get pregnant. Hey, I’m gone tell you right now, a man can’t get pregnant.”

Warnock, Walker says, “wants men in women’s sports.” His campaign aides point separately to a Senate vote on a Republican amendment that would have limited federal money for any educational institutions “that permit any student whose biological sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity designated for women or girls.” The amendment failed on a party-line vote.

“That’s sort of like saying you want Herschel Walker to compete against your daughters,” Walker said in Norcross, eliciting more laughs.

Walker rarely identifies the policies he opposes or explains counter proposals. He sticks with broader cultural branding, and in perhaps the most direct contradiction of his unity messaging, recommends that those with a different vision for America consider moving. “If you don’t like the rules under our roof, you can go somewhere else,” he said in Bartow County, after recalling a similar message his father once delivered to him.

Warnock seems reluctant to answer Walker’s broadsides directly. “My job is to represent all the people of Georgia across racial and ethnic and religious line, and all corner of this state,” he told reporters last week.

Asked specifically about Walker’s emphasis on transgender politics, Warnock said, “People love their children and they want to make sure that their children are safe from hatred and bigotry. So, you know, I will remain focused on all our young people and, at the same time, creating opportunities for young people.”

Christine “Joan” Strano, 78, died unexpectedly at her home on October
 17, 2022.&nbsp; She was born October 2, 1944, in Wichita to William Clark 
and Olive Aileen (Kissick) Anderson.

Joan graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1962, and Southwestern 
College, Winfield, in 1966, earning her bachelor’s degree. &nbsp;

While at Southwestern College, Joan met a young man from 
Punxsutawney, PA, Richard Francis “Dick” Strano. They were married June 
4, 1966, in South Hutchinson.&nbsp; Together, they raised two daughters, and 
eventually, their family grew to include two wonderful sons-in-law and 
seven precious grandchildren.&nbsp; Dick died March 6, 2018, after he and 
Joan shared nearly 52 years of marriage.

Joan was a natural born teacher.&nbsp; Throughout her career, Joan taught 
health/physical education and science in Osborne USD 392 and Hutchinson 
USD 308.&nbsp; Most recently, she was a substitute teacher for Buhler USD 
313.&nbsp; In her free time, she enjoyed being outdoors; Joan was an 
outstanding gardener, and had a talent for growing amazing flowers. She 
also enjoyed decorating, especially at Christmas. Joans’ greatest joy 
and calling though was that of being a mom and grandma; she loved her 
daughters and grandchildren unconditionally.&nbsp; She would do anything for 
them. Joan attended Grace Bible Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Joan is survived by:&nbsp; daughters, Angie White (Eric) of Hutchinson, 
and Amy Dye (Derek) of Lawrence; grandchildren, Ethan, Addi, Aidyn and 
Eli White, and Josie, Emme, and Harper Dye; brother, Jeff Anderson

sister-in-law, Tamra Strano of Baytown, TX; and her faithful four-legged

Oakland, Calif. to Bernard &amp; Norma (Bowman) Kramer. He married Jean 
A. Scheer August 14, 1976, at Garden City.

Coming from Garden City in 2015, Pete was a current Great Bend 
resident. He was a machinist for Simmons Pump &amp; Machinery. Pete was 
of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed collecting coins and hot wheels, and 
hunting and fishing. He was an avid football and baseball fan. Pete 
especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include, his wife, Jean Kramer of the home; a son, Nathan 
Kramer and wife Barbara of Garden City; two daughters, Anna Kramer and 
Stacey Kramer (Milton Barnes) both of Garden City; a daughter in law, 
Radonda Kramer of Great Bend; a sister, Carol Tieben and husband Daryl 
of Dodge City; and fifteen grandchildren, Alyssia Garcia Kramer (David),
 Jayden Kramer, Janica Kramer, Anastacia Kramer, Michael Kramer, 
Julianna Kramer, Matthew Kramer, Mia Vera, Isaac Owens, Jaylene Campos, 
Brysen Owens, Destiny Kramer, Alexander Kramer, Maddison Kramer and 
Gabriel Kramer. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Bryan
 Kramer and Adam Kramer; and a brother, Mark Kramer.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 23, 
2022, at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m.,
 Monday, October 24, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Archie 
Moody presiding. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City,
 Kan. at 2:00 p.m.

Kramer Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
