Gerald F. “Jerry” Ruder was called to his heavenly home on Friday, 
September 11, 2020, at the Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, at 
the age of 83. 

Jerry was born to Leo and Bridget (Bieker) Ruder on 
December 6, 1936, in rural Rooks County. He was united in marriage to 
Sonja (Grieve) Ruder on December 28, 1960, and was blessed with two 
daughters: Jacqueline and Bridget.


Jerry grew up in Rooks County where he attended Plainville High 
School and graduated with the class of 1954. Following high school he 
attended Seminary School briefly before he returned home in 1958 to tend
 to his family’s farm after his father suffered a heart attack. His 
father Leo was a man of many talents and some could say Jerry molded to a
 figure much like him. Jerry was well known for his expertise in wheat 
farming, his ambitious drive, working to the best of his abilities, 
humble intelligence, and firm faith in the Lord. Jerry was very active 
in the church for many years. He also spent many years farming and 
working at grain elevators for the Co-op and later Midland Marketing 
until he was forced to retire due to declining health. Even in 
retirement his will to keep pushing through the days with grace was 
evident to the people he was around. Jerry kept going and loved to 
travel. Weekends were for small trips around Kansas, whether it was to 
shop, explore wildlife, or enjoy the back roads; it was for getting out 
of the house and spending time with family and ending a good Saturday by
 dressing up in his church attire to attend mass to praise Jesus. After 
harvest he would take his family on a vacation, many of those trips to 
Colorado, to get away and unwind after all the long days spent working 
the grain elevator, helping others to bring in the fruits of their 
labor.


If Jerry wasn’t busy working on grain elevators, tending the land, 
playing pitch, traveling somewhere to eat, or eating - you could find 
him kicked back in a recliner with a cat, watching some sort of sporting
 event. He loved all sports, didn’t matter what it was, if he was 
watching TV, there was sports on. His favorite teams were the Kansas 
City Chiefs, Royals, and K-State. He had a competitive nature and a work
 ethic to back it. In high school Jerry may not have been the biggest 
guy on the football field, but that perseverance to be better earned him
 several varsity letterings and praise from his peers. That competitive 
drive was carried beyond high school to all facets of his life, 
including eating! He loved to eat, find new places to eat, and have 
competitions of who could eat the most between family members.


A few paragraphs could never fully justify the life of a holy, 
hardworking, kind-hearted, family man. The memories and stories that 
will be told will keep that tender and kindred spirit alive and be a 
testament to a life centered around faith, family, and love.


Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bridget Ruder; and brothers, Alfred, Walter, and Melvin Ruder.


Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sonja Ruder of Hays, KS; 
his daughters, Jacqueline (Ron) Leikam of Hays, KS and Bridget (Don) 
Cersovsky of Amarillo, TX; nieces and nephews, and other brothers and 
sisters of Christ.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 
2020 at 10:30AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. 
Visitation will be on Tuesday 2:00 PM until 4:30 PM at the funeral home 
in Plainville and will be moved to the church from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A
 Parish Vigil and Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. If 
attending, masks are encouraged.

 Wayne Rein, 81, passed peacefully on August 28, 2020 as a result of 
COVID 19 at Hays Medical Center. He was born on February 19, 1939 at the
 farm south of Bazine to Fred Rein, Jr and Clara (Stieben) Rein. 

Leland
 was the 4th of 5 children. He attended a rural grade school south of 
Bazine and graduated from Bazine High School in 1957. He married Sherron
 Hanan of Ness City at the United Methodist church on May 29, 1960. They
 lived on the farm and raised two children. His lifelong passion was 
farming. He loved his cows, working in the field and bringing in the 
wheat and milo harvest. He was a very hard working man who could be 
stubborn, ornery and cantankerous. Even though it was hard to get up in 
the tractor and combine these last few years, he found a way much to the
 chagrin of those around him. He will be greatly missed by his family 
and friends.

 was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cletus and 
Valis, a brother-in-law Ted and a sister-in-law Joann. He is survived by
 his wife Sherron, his sisters Glendoris Blattner and Genelda (Clarence)
 Gumescheimer, his children Laura (Jack) Lowery of Fort Collins, CO and 
Steven (Cheryl) Rein of Bazine, KS. Surviving grandchildren are Kacie 
(Chad) Patterson (Thornton, CO), Lexy (Skylar) Pegg (Loveland, CO), 
Mitchell Lowery (Honolulu, HI), Chase (Hope) Rein (Colwich, KS), Colton 
(Jodi) Rein (Greensboro, NC), Jennifer (Matt) Leiker (Hays) and Brian 
(Natalie) Ellis (Hays) and 5 great grandchildren. 

A
 private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 
2020 at 10:30am at the Bazine Cemetery. A memorial service will be 
delayed until there is a time to meet safely. We grieve with all who 
cannot be together during this heartbreaking pandemic.

Leland Wayne Rein

Enid June "E.J." DeWald, 66, passed away August 19, 2020 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS, from complications of Multiple Sclerosis and heart conditions.

She was born to Reuben and Alma (Hoersch) Schlegel at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend, Kansas, on Oct. 23, 1953. She grew up on the family farm south of Alexander, KS. She was baptized by her grandfather, Rev. John Hoersch on Fen. 7, 1954, and confirmed in the Evangelical United Brethren Church by Rev. Stewart. She graduated from Alexander Grade School in 1967, and LaCrosse High School, LaCrosse, KS, in 1971; her senior year she was class secretary and Pep Club president. During her high school years she worked at the Alexander Co-op during wheat harvest. She attended Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS, and was selected for the Sophomore Women's Honorary Organization and Mortar Board. During her college years, she was awarded Best of Show in several art competitions.

E.J. married her high school sweetheart, Mark DeWald on May 26, 1974, at the Alexander United Methodist Church. She was also a floral designer and was a featured designer in the Kansas District Conventions. She worked at St. Anthony Hospital as a nurses aide while Mark finished college. In their early married years, E.J. was a secretary of Inman High School and an Inman State Bank teller. Mark and E.J. moved to WaKeeney, KS, in 1978 where she was employed as a floral designer and also a clerk at Cleland Drug Store where she made the best vanilla cookies. She decided to return to F.H.S.U. where she received her B.S. in Art Education and certifications in social studies and language arts. In 1995, E.J. did her student teaching at Kennedy Middle School, Hays, KS, and the following year she was hired as a full-time art instructor. She was proud to be a "Fighting Irish," complete with her green-rimmed glass frame. She was employed by USD 428 until May 2008 when she reluctantly did a medical retirement.

E.J. loved her family, friends and her "school kids." She was an avid reader and loved her magazines. She was known for her kartoffel und glaz (potato and dumplings) and crustless quiche. Family dinners and get togethers were special times. Bird watching was another favorite hobby, and she was a good shot with a bb gun to keep the pesky squirrels from stealing the bird seed out of the bird feeders! She was a trivia expert in many areas including movies, actors and actresses, and did crossword puzzles in ink. She loved flamingos (flame-&amp;-go), M&amp;Ms, and Klondike bars; her favorite color was turquoise.

She was a member of P.E.O Chapter CT, WaKeeney. She was one of many founders (and directors) of Treehouse Theatre, WaKeeney, which hosted many plays and community events. She was a leader for a Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Explorer Scouts. Her favorite motto was "Lead, Follow, or Get Out of the Way!"

E.J. is survived by her loving husband of 46 years who was by her side to the end; daughter Jessica Riebel and husband Chase and children Jacob, Abigail, Alexandria, Anastasia, Ashley, and Flint; and son Jonathan (Valarie) and children Tinesha, Reuben, and Heaven; Delores DeWald, mother-in-law; Janice (DeWald) Huthoefer and husband Don, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Niece Kathryn; Gary L. Wilson brother-in-law; many close cousins; and her puppy, Buddy. She was preceded in death by infant daughter Justina Elizabeth on March 15, 1986; her brother Donald on May 29, 1960; her sister Stella on May 7, 2020; her father Reuben Schlegel on February 13, 1995; her mother Alma Schlegel on September 25, 1996; and nephew Daniel Huthoefer on March 15, 2006.

Per E.J.'s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation.

A celebration of E.J.s life will be held at 1:00 PM on August 29, 2020, at the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, KS, with inurnment by the family at a later date. Presiding will be Pastor Phyllis Burdge (&amp; Catur) and Pastor Chase Riebel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to P.E.O., Chapter CT and Girl Scouts of America. Casual dress is appropriate (turquoise if possible) to honor her fun-loving spirit. Social distancing will be observed and those attending service please wear a mask. Enid June 'E.J.' DeWald

Earl Duane Clews 84 passed away on August 19, 2020.&nbsp; He was a resident of WaKeeney since graduating from Arnold High School in 1954.&nbsp; He was a resident of the Trego County Long Term Care since August 2017.&nbsp; Earl was born December 8, 1935 in Arnold, Kansas, 1 of 8 children to John H. Clews &amp; Ester B. (Weber) Clews. 
After high school graduation he entered the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.&nbsp; He then fell in love with Wilma J. Bender and they were married on October 27, 1957.&nbsp; To this union 3 children were born.&nbsp; Wilma preceded him in in death November 1984.&nbsp; Earl then married Jennie L. Lorenz Zordel, April 12, 1986, gaining 6 stepchildren.

Earl is survived by two brothers, Dale and wife Shirley of Garden City, KS; Vyrl “Hank” Clews and wife Patty of McKinney, TX; children, Mark Clews of WaKeeney, KS, Jeanette Clews of Wichita, KS, Tracey Post and husband Dustin of Kansas City, MO; stepchildren Peggy Carter and husband Jim of Graham, TX, Terrence Zordel and wife Lao of Smith, AL, Daniel Zordel and wife Loretta of Hays, KS, Kelly Bliss and fiancé Lee Chaney of Graham, TX, Timothy Zordel and wife Sandy of Silver Lake, KS, step son-in-law Matthew Venechuk, Surprise, AZ; 13 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents John H. Clews &amp; Ester B. (Weber) Clews; wives Wilma J. (Bender) Clews; Jennie (Lorenz, Zordel) Clews; his sister Fern Green, and brothers Kenneth, Leroy, Floyd, Don and stepdaughter Tammy (Zordel) Venechuk. 
Earl worked for Verbeck Lumber Yard for 33 years.&nbsp; Most people in WaKeeney knew that if any supplies were needed and it was after hours all they had to do was contact Earl and he would meet them there to get things.&nbsp; He then worked for a local farmer for 10 years before officially retiring.&nbsp; For many years, in addition to the above jobs, he mowed lawns and rototilled gardens.&nbsp; He loved interacting with the public.&nbsp; He was an avid gardener; if you wanted to try some type of vegetable or fruit he probably grew it or at least tried to.&nbsp; Wheat farming was also very important to him. &nbsp;&nbsp; 
If he ever found any spare time, when he wasn’t working, he loved playing horseshoes and going dancing.&nbsp; He could really “cut the rug” when he wanted to.&nbsp; After long days of work he would relax and enjoy a mixed drink of his whiskey. &nbsp;&nbsp; 
He was a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge as well as the American Legion.&nbsp;

Funeral service - 10 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2020, at Schmitt Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Gibbs officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the city cemetery. &nbsp;

Visitation - Sunday 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Trego County Long Term Care/Activities Department. &nbsp; Donations made to the LTC may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N 12th, WaKeeney, KS&nbsp; 67672.&nbsp; Earl loved participating in games arts and crafts they provided.&nbsp;

Earl worked for Verbeck Lumber Yard for 33 years.&nbsp; Most people in WaKeeney knew that if any supplies were needed and it was after hours all they had to do was contact Earl and he would meet them there to get things.&nbsp; He then worked for a local farmer for 10 years before officially retiring.&nbsp; For many years, in addition to the above jobs, he mowed lawns and rototilled gardens.&nbsp; He loved interacting with the public.&nbsp; He was an avid gardener; if you wanted to try some type of vegetable or fruit he probably grew it or at least tried to.&nbsp; Wheat farming was also very important to him. &nbsp;&nbsp; 
If he ever found any spare time, when he wasn’t working, he loved playing horseshoes and going dancing.&nbsp; He could really “cut the rug” when he wanted to.&nbsp; After long days of work he would relax and enjoy a mixed drink of his whiskey. &nbsp;&nbsp; 
He was a lifetime member of the Eagles Lodge as well as the American Legion.&nbsp;Funeral service - 10 a.m., Monday, August 24, 2020, at Schmitt Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Gibbs officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the city cemetery. &nbsp;Visitation - Sunday 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to the Trego County Long Term Care/Activities Department. &nbsp; Donations made to the LTC may be sent to Schmitt Funeral Home, 336 N 12th, WaKeeney, KS&nbsp; 67672.&nbsp; Earl loved participating in games arts and crafts they provided.&nbsp;

Daniel "Dan" A. Schreiner, 97, was born
 May 31, 1923, to Joseph and Margaret (Kuhn) Schreiner in Hays, Kansas. 
He died on August 18, 2020, in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was educated in 
Hays and began home construction under the wing of his brother, Jerry.&nbsp; 
Later he branched out on his own and operated under “Schreiner 
Construction” building homes in Hays, WaKeeney and surrounding towns.

Dan met the love of his life, Jennie 
Ruder, and they were married on May 1, 1944.&nbsp; They raised five children 
in WaKeeney and later moved to Hays after retirement.&nbsp; Dan was an avid 
bowler and sponsored his own team for years.&nbsp; He and Jennie enjoyed 
entertaining friends for great meals, lots of card games, weekend dances
 and long visits over dessert and coffee.&nbsp; Their home was always “the 
place” for their five children to invite friends over to play 
basketball, eat like crazy and interact with Dan and Jennie. Dan was a 
loving, caring, faithful spouse, father, grandfather, and great 
grandfather as a carpenter following Christ's footsteps.&nbsp;

They both set a great example 
practicing their faith and that proved to be vital in getting through 
tough times and celebrating good times.&nbsp; Dan used a line repeatedly and 
that was,“There's a time to be serious, but not very often”.&nbsp; That 
seemed to put things into perspective in every area of his life. Dan was
 known for his long list of Schreinerisms (comical one liners) which 
produced eye rolls and laughter, and these will probably be passed onto 
future generations.&nbsp;

Dan was one of 13 children.&nbsp; &nbsp;Bill, 
Josie, Albert, Jerry, Irene, Oliva, Eddie, Helen, Clarence predeceased 
him.&nbsp; Adeline Saia, Topeka, KS, Joe (Marie) Las Vegas, NV and Herb 
(Dotsy) Albuquerque, NM are still living.

Beverly Joan Combs passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 peacefully at Via Christi Village - Hays at the age of 85 years. 

She was born November 24, 1934 in Burlington, KS to the late Loren and Wilma (Giesy) Garrett. After working for the Federal Government for 30 years she retired. She then went to college and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Kansas University (Rock Chalk). She then went on to be a Social Worker for many years. Bev was devoted to her 4 children Randy, Todd, Kim, and Kristy. She was a loving Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Bev loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She especially loved when her grandchildren came to stay for the summer each year. She was adamant that we all attend swimming lessons just in case she ever ended up in a body of water bigger than a bathtub. She was preceded in death by two sons Randy Combs, Todd Combs.&nbsp; She will be sorely missed and survived by her sister Sherri O’Keefe, son Kim Combs and daughter Kristy Reincke, grandchildren: Casey Richardson, Kellie Stanley, Brooklyn Stephens, Dustin Combs, great grandchildren: Madison, Colton, Teagan, Jackson, Kobe, Laytin, Kole, Bella, and Emmie. Beverly Joan Combs

David Allen John Rogers, age 40 of Stockton, Kansas, passed away on July
 31, 2020 from a tragic, small craft mid-air collision in Soldotna, 
Alaska. He was born on January 10, 1980, in Denver, Colorado. He was 
raised by his mother Renee (Hollingsworth) Rogers and husband Nick. On 
February 14, 2002, he was united in marriage to his high school 
sweetheart, Rhonda Hebert in Golden, Colorado. They were blessed with 
three children, Madison, Ben, and Troy.
 David grew up in Denver and graduated from Bear Creek High School 
with the Class of 1998. After graduation David immediately entered the 
workforce. For several years he did various jobs in pipefitting, 
carpentry, hardwood flooring, installing windows with Uncle Brent, and 
washing semis with Grandpa Lloyd. He liked traveling with Grandma Ruby 
and Grandpa Lloyd, and developed a deep passion for the outdoors, 
especially hunting, camping, and fishing. He made up his mind early on, 
that somehow, someway, he was going to be a professional wilderness 
guide.
 That dream became a reality when David moved his family to Stockton.
 During the Summer months, he spent his days leading adventures on the 
Alaskan frontier, and would then return home to do the same in Rooks 
County, and surrounding areas, the rest of the year, through his own 
hunting guide business, “Beyond The Bend.” He chose that name because 
true to his adventurous spirit, he always knew there was something 
amazing, wonderful, and surprising just waiting for him and his fearless
 compadres, over, around, or beyond the next bend of whatever river, 
road, or trail they were traveling.
 David had a sense of humor that was all his own. His infectious 
smile and use of clever sayings, known as “Davisms,” like “you get what 
you go get” could always put friends, family, and strangers at ease, 
even if there was a little tension in the air between folks. It didn’t 
matter who you were, when you heard him say, “We came here to kick ass 
and chew bubble gum! And we’re all out of bubble gum!” well, all you 
could do was laugh, shake your head in agreement, and get on with 
gettin’ along.
 Unapologetic for being himself, he didn’t embarrass easily, if at 
all. If his clothes didn’t match, so what? If he had a tough day in the 
fields and came home with half a shirt and most of his sock material 
missing, who cares? And if he was driving, swerving on the road, looking
 for deer, turkeys, or sheds, you’d best just stay out of his way, or 
hold on for dear life if you were riding with him. Although his mom 
always told him to be, “Less like a rocket ship and more like a 
balloon,” having that Rogers’ stubborn streak, and one-track mind, he 
didn’t always heed that advice real close.
 With all of his million-dollar ideas, like seasoned shotgun shells, 
David had his own unique flair in the culinary department as well. First
 of all, butter is not just an occasional condiment, it is a food group 
unto itself that goes on everything. Second, the best treat while 
traveling the frozen tundra of Alaska, is a PBJ Smoothie, nothing else 
will do. And finally, all we really know about the Coffee Bomb, is that
 you take unspecified portions of coffee, hot chocolate, and heavy 
whipping cream, then add a ridiculous amount of butter with a dash of 
cinnamon, and then, well, there you have it. Probably called the Bomb 
because it would simply take out the average coffee drinker. It is 
definitely not for lightweights. Which would explain the huge amount of 
adrenaline, buzz, and excitement, as he loudly and proudly proclaim at 
the beginning of each hunting excursion, “Let’s go get our asses 
kicked!”
 Never one to shy away from saying, “I love you,” David was a devoted
 family man, husband, and father. He was an early morning guy, so, when 
he got up, it was time for everyone to be up. Although, at times, family
 came dragging out of bed, they knew the day was always going to be full
 of fun and good times. A devoted TikTok-er, well, really an obsessed 
addict, he spent hours sharing clips and videos with his kids, laughing 
and carrying on, in their own little world of sheer joy and hilarity. 
And, if he started to take off his socks, look out, because somebody was
 getting hit!
 An avid sports fan, especially when his kids were playing, David was
 the quintessential sideline coach for every kid, no matter the sport. 
Always encouraging them, he strived to help them be their best at 
everything, and often reminded them, “If you can’t see yourself making 
it, you won’t.” Supplied with popcorn, water, and Snickers bars at every
 game, he made sure that winning was a joyous yet humble celebration, 
and losing was just another step forward with a lesson on how to do 
better next time.
 Left to mourn David’s untimely passing are his wife, Rhonda of the 
home in Stockton; his children, Madison of Topeka, and Ben and Troy 
Rogers of Stockton; mother Renee Rogers of Hays, KS; father Nick Rogers 
of Littleton, CO; sister, Hollie Aukland and husband Craig of Littleton,
 CO; brothers, Ty Rogers of Brooklyn, NY, and Christopher Rogers of

you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the 
earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. 
Which of all these does not know what the hand of the Lord has done? In 
his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” 
David was a man of deep and growing faith. Although he did not realize 
it when he began, the more time he spent in the whole of God’s creation,
 day by day, closer and closer, the Lord was gently drawing him to 
Himself. Drawing him into a deeper understanding of life and love, and 
what it means to be a man, not just within his own heart and soul, but 
in the hearts and souls of his family, friends, neighbors, and God. In 
the final moments of his life, we do not know exactly what happened, but
 one thing is certain, as David flew over the beautiful landscape of the
 Alaskan heartland, just above the breaking clouds, we hope he felt, in 
that moment, as if he could reach out and touch the very face of God. 
Then suddenly, in the twinkling of an eye, he did.

Bernie Joe "BJ" Melvin went home to be 
with the Lord on August 1, 2020. BJ was born June 16, 1947 in Fairbury, 
NE to Max Gerald Melvin and Katie (Schanze) Melvin. BJ grew up in 
Fairbury on the family acreage until he was in fifth grade when the 
family moved to Manhattan, KS. He graduated from Manhattan High School 
in 1965.

He had a one-year stint playing 
football at Kansas State University and then joined the Marines. After a

recruiting where he met his wife Gracemary Valchine. Shortly after the 
birth of their son Lonnie they moved to Colby, KS in 1969. After 
attending Colby Community College he began working with the Urban 
Renewal Project in Colby. He enjoyed real estate so much he made it his 
career for many years: this included serving as the President of the 
Kansas Association of Realtors in 1991.&nbsp; He was a member of the VFW and 
the American Legion in Colby and coached the American Legion baseball 
team when his brother played and again when his sons played.

BJ loved golfing and was very involved 
at Colby Country Club for several decades, even helping run the pro shop
 and cooking at the Club. He also deeply loved his sons and followed 
them all over the country watching golf, baseball, football and any 
other activities they were doing. He was always encouraging and was 
their biggest fan. In his later years BJ moved to Norton, KS, where he 
worked at Norton Correctional Facility with Aramark--he often commented 
on how he liked working with the inmates. He thoroughly enjoyed 
following the Norton Bluejays and his grandchildren. BJ was a member of 
the Norton Christian Church and made the decision to rededicate his life
 to Christ by getting baptized on June 2, 2019.

BJ was preceded in death by his father 
Max Melvin and is survived by his mother, Katie Melvin of Colby, KS; his
 brother, Roger Melvin of Elbert, CO, and two nephews (Roger Jr. of 
Pueblo West, CO and family and Ryan of Las Vegas, NV and family); son 
Lonnie of Casa Grande, AZ, and three children (Valerie, Gracie and 
Lillie); Lucas and wife Angela of Norton, KS and five children (Alec and
 Tyler Anderson and great grandson, Micah, Miah and Freddie Haines,

A Celebration of Life will be held at 
Norton Christian Church in Norton, Kansas at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday 
August 5. The family will be available for visitors beginning at 9:00 
a.m. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Beulah 
Cemetery in Colby, Kansas at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Hays High School has set its graduation for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25, outside of the school.

A stage will be set up facing the student parking lot. There will be a small tent for parents who wish to set closer to the stage and also another small tent set up for guests with special needs who will need to be in the shade.

All others guests are asked to sit in the student parking area. They can bring their own chairs from home or use chairs that have been loaned to the school by the Wild West Festival committee.

Martin Staub, HHS principal, strongly encouraged families to sit together, but to social distance from other families.

The students will be asked to wear masks during the ceremony and their chairs will be spaced for social distancing. Guests are encouraged to wear masks, but they are not required.

The ceremony will be projected onto a large outdoor screen for those sitting in the parking lot. The graduation will also be live streamed on the <a href="http://www.hayshighindians.com/">HHS website</a>.

Parking attendants will be on-hand to direct traffic. Straub said he thought the high school will have plenty of room to seat all of the guests and accommodate parking.

HHS will be graduating about 175 students this year. During past graduations, HHS has hosted as many as 2,000 guests at ceremonies at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

However, Straub said he doubted that many people would attend the July 25 ceremony. He speculated some family members and friends will chose to watch the ceremony via live stream.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the HHS gym A. If this happens, the school will be forced to restrict the number of guests for each student to no more than four.&nbsp;

"If we have to, we will set up in gym A if a storm comes through," Straub said. "We have become very flexible in the las five months. We’ll figure it out."

Seniors should have received an email with details of the graduation. Anyone who has questions, can call HHS at 785-623-2600.

Project Graduation will continue as scheduled on the evening of graduation.

The event will be open to students and their parents. Much of the event will be staged outside, weather permitting, Straub said.

"I am confident if we have a nice starry night, we will have that outside," he said. "It is good for safety and will add to the atmosphere to mark historically what these kids went through."

 <li>Attached are two maps of HHS in an attempt to help you understand our plan for the day.</li><li>We have hired parking managers who will help fill the HHS front and back parking lots and several grass areas on campus. Please park where they ask you to park.</li><li>A professional stage with quality sound has been secured for the event. See map’s yellow box for location.</li><li>We have rented a 40’ x 60’ tent for parents &amp; HHS staff (see blue box labeled “Parents”) in an attempt to provide some shade. ONLY parents/guardians/HHS staff will be allowed to sit here. Obviously, parents/guardians aren’t required to sit here; we’re just trying to provide you the second best (graduates get best seats) area to view the event with shade.</li><li>We have rented a 20’ x 40’ tent for our HHS Staff and guests with special needs because of age or other physical impairment (see blue box labeled “Special Needs”).  </ol>Inclement Weather:<ol>
 <li>It’s July in Hays, KS, so we like our odds, but we must be prepared for inclement weather on the day of the event.&nbsp; Here’s the hard part…</li><li>If stormy weather requires a change of plans, the alternate site for the ceremony will be in our HHS Gym A.</li><li>If Gym A is used, we will have to limit the number of guests, for each graduate, who can attend in person. Each graduate would be given the same number of tickets and a ticket would be required for each person to enter.&nbsp; We will work with the Ellis County Health Department in determining the number of tickets per graduate if plan B is needed. Whether the ceremony is inside or outside, the ceremony will be livestreamed.</li><li>If Gym A is used, the number allowed to attend will be less than the facility capacity to allow for social distancing.&nbsp; We will STRONGLY encourage all attendees to wear a mask.</li><li>I’ve never felt the need to pray for good hot and dry Kansas weather during the last week in July in Hays, KS&nbsp;until this year.</li>

Hays High sets outdoor graduation for July 25

Trevor Kiley Bohl, 47, passed away on July 7, 2020 at Hays Medical Hospital. He&nbsp;was born to James C. and Lynda E. (Robinson) Bohl on February 16, 1973 in Norton, KS.

Trevor enjoyed playing games with his family. Whether it was darts, pool, board&nbsp;games or winning at the card game golf,(and he did seem to always win) he was always&nbsp;ready to go with a smile on his face. He loved to show up his brother on the pool table&nbsp;or on the golf course. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad and brother, Corey.

He especially loved picking on his sister in law, Cassie.

When health began to slow him down, he spent most of his time mowing for his&nbsp;parents and his beloved Granny. He spent many hours with her puttering around the&nbsp;house. They had such a special bond. Trevor liked to “tinker” at home as well, as we&nbsp;found out while cleaning out his garage! If you needed a gadget of any kind, Trevor&nbsp;probably had it. His love of movies and country music was apparent with his huge&nbsp;collections of VHS, DVDs, CDs, and cassettes.

Trevor was a quiet man with a quick smile. His hearing impairment made conversation difficult, but he tried his best to get a good jab in when he could. And boy did he! He rarely said “no” when asked for help. He was one of the good guys.

After suffering a stroke, Trevor lived at Logan Manor. While there he made many friends with the staff and would cruise the halls most of the day. Everyone that visited&nbsp;knew him since he frequently parked himself near the nurse’s station. Other times he would be found in various offices visiting with whoever happened to be there. The halls there will be pretty quiet without him.

Trevor is survived by his parents, James C. and Lynda E. Bohl. One brother,&nbsp;Corey, and wife, Cassie, nieces Aubreyana Bohl and Quinley Bohl, nephews Riley Bohl&nbsp;and Ethan Bohl, great niece Addelynn Latham and paternal grandfather Ralph Bohl.

He is preceded in death by his infant sister Dana, brother Shannon, maternal grandparents Ivan and Leslie Eilene (Granny) Robinson and paternal grandmother&nbsp;Eileen Bohl.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. 
Saturday, July 11th, 2020 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 
Phillipsburg, with Pastor Troy Buss officiating.&nbsp; The services will be 
streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel's FaceBook Page.&nbsp; 
Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Friends may sign the book Friday from&nbsp; 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
