SHAWNEE COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating another deadly shooting in Topeka.
Just before 10:30p.m. May 2, police responded to the area of SW 13th and SW Boswell in Topeka on the report of gunshots in the area, according to Police Lt. Ronnie Connell.
As officers arrived in the area, they located a man later identified as 27-year-old Treveon Carrington suffering from life-threatening injuries. While on scene, medical personnel pronounced him deceased.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested 30-year-old Derrick Mitchell of Topeka, was arrested and booked him into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on a requested charge of first degree murder. This is the city’s 6 th homicide investigation of 2025 in Topeka, according to Connell.
