JOHNSON COUNTY —A teen who admitted bringing a gun to a high school in Kansas is going to remain in custody.
On Wednesday, Judge Brenda Cameron sentenced 16-year-old Derek Reyna-Mendez to 12 months in the juvenile correctional facility, according to the Johnson Count District Attorney's office. He was originally charged with Firearm possession by a felon, Juvenile possession of firearm and interference with law enforcement.
In February, Reyna-Mendez pleaded guilty to firearm possession by a felon. In December of 2024 arrested him for bringing a gun to Shawnee Mission South High School.
