HAYS – The Hays Larks opened their long-awaited and coronavirus-delayed season with a doubleheader sweep of the Colorado Pirates in front of a large Saturday night crowd at Larks Park. Hays won the opener 10-0 in five innings then took the second game 7-2.
The two teams close out the Rocky Mountain Baseball League series Sunday at 7 p.m.

Pirates 0 (5 innings)
The Larks took advantage off four walks and two hits batters and scored eight
in the first inning.
Matt Cavanaugh, Grant Lung and Max McGuire both drove in two runs
Wyatt Divis and Rustin Hays combined on a two-hit shutout. Divis gave up two hits while striking out five and walking one and picked up the win. Hays induced three groundouts in a 1-2-3 fifth.
Larks 7, Pirates 2
Palmer Hutchison’s sacrifice fly scored S. Cooper in the bottom of the fourth
to break a 2-2 tie and give the Larks the lead for good. The Larks scored five
in the inning. Matt Cavanaugh followed Hutchison with an RBI double. Grant Lung
singled home a run and Corbin Truslow singled home two runs.
Lung, Truslow, Cavanaugh and Cam Pehrson all had two hits. Lung and Truslow both drove in two.
Ryan Ruder pitched a scoreless fourth and picked up the win.
