A Wichita Traffic Motor Officer arrived on the scene and contacted the driver, later identified as Shugart  who then accelerated and drove away, striking and running over the officer’s lower leg.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Wichita Police were in pursuit of a Silverado driven by Shugart westbound in the 2400 Block of 15th Street.

The Silverado ran the stop sign at North Meridan and struck a northbound 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Alicia Reico, 51, Wichita, on the the right front quarter panel.

EMS transported the Wichita Traffic Motor officer and Reico to a local hospital. Both had non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was treated and released from the hospital.

Police arrested Shugart and a passenger in the pickup 27-year-old Odessa Silcott of Wichita.  Bond for each of these two new charges against Shugart is $200,000, according to the district attorney's office.

A jury trial status hearing for Shugart is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
