Police: 16-year-old passenger killed driver, ran from Kan. crash

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal shooting and car crash have arrested a 16-year-old from Wichita.

Just after 10 p.m. on June 10, police responded to a shooting call at the 2300 block of East Macarthur in Wichita, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

First responders located 27-year-old Rashaad Hollingsworth of Wichita. inside a vehicle with a single gunshot wound to his upper body. Hollingsworth was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased by medical staff.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Hollingsworth was driving his 2011 Chevy Traverse when the incident occurred. The suspect produced a handgun and shot Hollingsworth.

Hollingsworth lost control of the vehicle and collided with a structure on the side of the road. The suspect fled the scene prior to the arrival of officers.

Due to the relentless efforts of our investigation department, detectives were able to develop some leads that led to the identification and arrest of the 16-year-old suspect.

The teen is being held on requested charges of murder in the first degree.
