KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man has been charged with a felony count of forgery for presenting to county officials a fraudulent Warranty Deed to obtain possession of a south Kansas City residential property, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.

Miles W. Thomas, 51, faces a felony charge of Forgery.

According to court records, the Kansas City Police Department's Economic Crimes Section investigated the report of a forgery. An individual reported that the name of a family member, deceased, had been forged in order for the reported buyer to obtain possession of the property in south Kansas City. The fraudulent Warranty Deed, the police investigation found, transferred property to the defendant's company.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker noted the investigation also showed numerous other records associated with the defendant or his company in the county's land records system. Baker thanked KCPD for its investigation and called for other community members, if they have any suspicion about other real estate deals involving the defendant, to quickly contact the KC police department.
