EMPORIA - The Hays Junior Eagles went 2-2 at the Emporia Summer Slam over th weekend. After losing to Garnett 12-6 and the Topeka Senators 4-3 in pool play Saturday, they beat Salina Hawks 2-1 and Garnett 15-6 Sunday.
The Eagles scored two in the first on a couple of groundouts against the Hawks. Will Cadoret had two of their six hits. Carson Spray gave up one run on four hits for the win.
Garnett scored six in the bottom of the first to take a 6-4 lead in the second game but Greg Hughes shut the door for the final 3 2/3 innings and picked up the win.
Blake Schmidt went 4-for-4 with four RBIs.
The Junior Eagles improve to 7-7 on the season. They play at Buhler Tuesday then at the Kansas Grand Slam in Salina starting Thursday.
