
KANSAS CITY —A Kansas City man has been charged in a fatal New Year's Day, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker.
Daqunne E. Green, 24, faces Murder 2nd Degree Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.
According to court records, police were dispatched New Years Day to the Short Stop convenience store on US 40 Highway on reports of shots being fired and a victim inside the store.
Officers found the victim, Chris Wright, with a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel pronounced him deceased. Video showed the Green entering the passenger side of Wright's vehicle in the store parking lot. Then a struggle ensued and Green exited the vehicle holding a handgun.
The vehicle reversed out of a parking space and Green fires several shots into the victim's vehicle. Green then fled from the scene in his vehicle and the victim walked into the store where he later is pronounced deceased..
