SHAWNEE COUNTY —A house fire early Friday caused approximately $3,500 in damage.
Just after 7:30a.m., crews responded to a reported house fire at 1535 SW Van Buren in Topeka, according to Battalion Chief Ty Forshee.
First arriving crews found smoke coming from the attic of a two story home and quickly extinguished the fire. The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire by Topeka Fire Department personnel when they arrived.
Investigators determine the cause of the fire as failure of electrical wiring in the attic. The fire originated in the attic of the home. The loss associated with the fire is approximately $2500 to the structure and $1000 in content loss.
The home did not have working smoke detectors, according to Forshee.
