One hospitalized after fire at Kansas hotel

SHAWNEE COUNTY—One person was injured in a fire at a hotel on Tuesday in Topeka.

An individual has been transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-lifethreatening injuries following a hotel fire in west Topeka.

Just after 5:30 p.m., crews responded to a reported hotel fire at Woodspring Suites, 1801 SW Westport Drive in Topeka, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols. 

First arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from a room on the second floor. American Medical response transported one individual to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have not released details on what caused the fire or a damage estimate.
