RENO COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 7:30p.m. Saturday in Reno County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Peterbilt semi driven by Ryan R. Purchase, 44, Ludington, Michigan, was northbound on Kansas 61 and a 2024 Ford F150 driven by Martin P. McLaughlin, 68, Romulus, MIchigan, was southbound two miles east of Turon.
The vehicles collided head-on in the southbound lane. After impact, the pickup became fully engulfed in flames and the semi traveled off the road to the left and came to rest in the ditch upright.
McLaughlin was pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Purchase to the hospital in Hutchinson. Due to the fire, the KHP had incomplete seat belt usage information.
