Kansas murder suspects remains jailed on $500,000 bond

SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man accused in a fatal shooting in Derby made his first court appearance in the case.

Demarc Burgess, 22 Wichita, is charged with 2nd degree murder and battery, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

On Aug. 29, Derby Police arrested 22-year-old Burgess in the 200 Block of North Baltimore for the August 28 shooting at 1215 N. Westview in the city of Derby.

At the residence that morning, first responding officers located several witnesses to the shooting and one adult male who was suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he died.

Police asked the public for help to locate the  suspect described as a Black male, approximately mid 20s, with a slender build and a street name of “D” or possibly “Dee”.  

Attorneys are scheduled to discuss the case on Sept. 12, He remains in jail on a $500,000 bond, according to the District Attorney's office.

Just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to the report of a shooting at 1215 N. Westview in the city of Derby, according to a statement from the city.

Officers located several witnesses to the shooting and one adult male who was suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital where he died.

Police are looking for a suspect described as a Black male, approximately mid 20s, with a slender build. He has a street name of “D” or possibly “Dee”.
