Kansas man survives violent SUV, semi crash

BARTON COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident just after 2:30p.m. Wednesday in Barton County.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office reported a 2024 Kenworth semi pulling a trailer loaded with agriculture chemicals and driven by Kelsey Jackson of Hutchinson was westbound on U.S. 56 and began to make a right turn at SW 80th Avenue. 

A Nissan Frontier driven by Randy Johnson of Pawnee Rock rear-ended the trailer. After impact the pickup turned over and slid under the trailer. The semi dragged the pickup for a short distance before coming to a stop.

Johnson was extracted from the vehicle by the Great Bend Fire Department. He was transported by ground ambulance to the hospital in Great Bend with non-life-threatening injuries. Jackson was not injured in the collision.

The accident remains under investigation.
