Carrol Verne McQueen passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at the
Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 84. He
was born on July 27, 1936, in Concordia, Kansas, to Verne and Daisy
(Huffman) McQueen. Carrol was united in marriage to Deanna Anderson on
September 7, 1956, in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union, three children
were born: Edward, Cassie, and David.
Carrol spent his whole life as a Rooks County resident. He attended
country school at Bow Creek up until high school and then decided to go
back to work for the family farm. He and Deanna made a home on the farm,
added a dairy, and raised their children. He was extremely fond of
staying at or around home. If he did leave, it was for hunting coyotes,
coon, or playing some games of bowling. Throughout his life he wore many
hats. Some say he was a “jack of all trades and a master of none”. He
farmed the land, was a dairy farmer, broke, raced, and shod horses, and
later worked for the County maintaining roads. He loved the outdoors
and spent a lot of time hunting with his buddies and the grey hounds he
raised. Carrol, who was often referred to as “MacGyver” could fix just
about anything. If he couldn’t piece it back together, it probably just
couldn’t be fixed. He was a devoted husband, a good father, and a hard
worker. As we reflect on Carrol’s life, may we remember to enjoy the
simplest of things in life such as just being home, embracing the people
and moments that surround us, and live everyday with a grateful heart.
He is survived by his wife Deanna McQueen of the home; his children,
Edward (Ed) McQueen of Louisville, KY, Cassie McQueen of Stockton, KS,
and David (Caroline) McQueen of Plainville; seven grandchildren, Dustin
Kraft, Cory McQueen, Katie McQueen, Nolan McQueen, Mallory McQueen,
JoLee Hill, and Gabby McQueen; and five great-grandchildren, Kyran
Irving, Jahzara Stinemetz, Sawyer Kraft, Tinley Irving, and Fletcher
McQueen.
Carrol is preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Daisy McQueen;
and siblings, Jackie (Paul) Engler, Jerol Kerns, Lola (Tom) McLaughlin,
Iris (Dwight) Wing, and an infant brother.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at
2:30 PM at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the
funeral home in Stockton from 6 PM until 8 PM on Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to Post Rock Family Medicine and may be sent
in care of Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 North First, Stockton, KS
