Police: Kan. man shot in the head attempting to break up fight in crowd

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting that injured a 44-year-old man from Wichita

Just after 12:30 am Wednesday, police were dispatched to a local hospital for a walk-in shooting victim with a gunshot wound to his head, according to Officer Juan Rebolledo.

The victim had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was treated for his injury and was in stable condition.

The investigation revealed the incident took place in the 1600 block of East Fortuna Street in Wichita.

Officers learned that the victim was trying to break up a physical altercation within a large crowd when an unknown suspect produced a handgun and shot him.

Officers responded to the scene and encountered a large crowd and multiple casings. Due to the lack of cooperation from witnesses, investigators have not been able to fully determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
