Kansas woman dies after crash with a semi

HARVEY COUNTY—A Kansas woman died in an accident just before 2p.m. Saturday in Harvey County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2017 Hyundai Accent driven by Konner Lynne Hayes, 29, Newton, was northbound on Interstate 135 two miles south of Newton.

The car crossed the median and collided with a southbound 2024 Freightliner semi driven by Salpyyev Suleyman, 44, Jacksonville, Florida.

Vehicle 1 came to rest facing Southwest in the left-hand lane. Vehicle 1 came to rest jackknifed across both Northbound lanes on I135.

Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to the Kansas Forensics Lab. Suleyman was not injured. Hayes was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
