SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper was injured in an accident just before 3:30a.m. Monday in Sedgwick County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2024 Dodge Durango driven by Trooper Jaydon C. Weve, 24, Newton, was southbound on Interstate 135 just south of 1st Street in lane # 3 with its emergency lights and sirens activated. The Trooper started to make a U-turn in attempt to stop a wrong-way driver. A southbound 2019 Peterbilt semi driven by Jerry A. Oliphant, 53, Valley Center struck the SUV on the driver side front quarter panel.

EMS transported Weve to Ascension Via Christi St. Francis for treatment of a minor injury. Oliphant was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
