SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man is going to prison for a deadly drug deal shooting he committed in 2019. Orlando Howard, 19, was sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
Howard was one of four who were charged in the killing of Jerome Armbeck. Just after 6 p.m. Aug. 19, 2019, police responded to a shooting call in the 4600 block of east Boston in Wichita, according to office Charley Davidson.
First responders found Armbeck in an open field with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators learned a disturbance occurred between Howard, then just 17, Armbeck, 18-year-old Pierce Jackson and 20-year-old Marcus Lamar in the 4600 block of east Boston when a suspect fired multiple times from a firearm, striking Armbeck.
The crime was not a random incident. It was drug related, according to Davidson.
Earlier, co-defendant Marcus Lamar was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the crime, according to the district attorney.
