
MEADE COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 8a.m. Thursday in Meade County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 BMW 530 Series driven by Joshua K. Barnes, 21, Cincinnati, OH., was westbound on U.S. 54 one half mile east of Meade.
The BMW was passing a 2023 Mack Truck driven by Christopher T. Bables, 43, Kansas City, Mo., who was towing three other trucks.
The BMW struck an eastbound 2003 Peterbilt semi driven by Mark B. West, 46, Liberal, head-on. The BMW then rotated counterclockwise and struck the Mack truck on the driver's side saddle tank.
Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary. EMS transported a passenger in the BMW Hudhaifa I. Groomes, 23, Dayton, OH, to the hospital in Meade. Bables and West were not injured. Barnes was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.
