
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are working to determine the cause of a Kansas house fire.
Just before 10p.m. Thursday, crews responded to the fire in a home at 216 NW Laurent Street in Topeka, according to department spokesman Alan Stahl.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from multiple windows of the one story home and began a defensive exterior fire attack, and then finished fighting the fire from the interior.
Residents escaped without injury. The fire caused minor heat damage to a neighboring house.
Investigators determined the estimated dollar loss – $31,000; $29,000 of which is associated with at total structural loss, and $2,000 related to contents loss. There were no working smoke detectors located within the home, according to Stahl.
