Fog a factor in Kan. accident: Pickup strikes parked semi

BARTON COUNTY — At about 5 a.m. Wednesday, the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a report of an injury accident in the 10 block of NE 20th Road.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a single-vehicle accident in which a 1991 Chevrolet pickup struck a parked 2003 Peterbilt tractor-trailer unit.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup was identified as Jeremy Combs, 37, Great Bend. Combs stated he thought he saw something in the roadway and veered to the right, striking the tractor-trailer unit. There was heavy fog and limited visibility at the time of the accident.

Combs was transported to The University of Kansas Health System in Great Bend by the Great Bend EMS service with non-life-threatening injuries.
