SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement and USD 259-Wichita authorities are investigating after another gun was found at a school in the district on Tuesday.
Police took a student into custody at Wichita Heights High school, 5301 North Hillside, according to communication to parents from the principal Eric Filippi.
"Today we received a tip that a student was in possession of a gun at school. There were no threats made and no one was hurt. Heights Administration, Security Officers, and SRO got involved immediately and took the student into custody. We followed all district safety protocols in this matter to ensure the safety of our school community."
On Monday, police took a student West High School, 820 S Osage Street in Wichita into custody for having a gun on campus.
Police released no additional information and referred all questions to USD 259.
The high school reminded parents to "discuss with your student the far-reaching and serious consequences of bringing inappropriate items to school. We appreciate the person who came forward with the information to keep our school safe. Our students know if you “See Something, Say Something.” We take these matters seriously and will not tolerate anything that could potentially harm students or put them in fear."
