DICKINSON COUNTY—A group floating on the Smoky Hill River lost contact with a person in their group on Saturday, according Geary County Emergency Management.
It got dark, the main group made it to Chapman with one person missing, according to a social media report from Dickinson County Fire District #1 Chief Paul Forelich.
Geary County Emergency Management along with the Geary County Sheriff/Junction City Water Rescue Team were called to assist.
After gathering info on time on the river crews from Dickinson County Fire District #1 went to a point off Quail Road and made contact with the missing rafter. He was removed from the river by crew from and checked by Dickinson County EMS.
The rafter was located prior to the arrival of the water team from Geary County. "This shows the teamwork and county lines do not stop us from helping our neighbors," according to a Geary County Emergency Management.
"In addition to the water rescue team, Dickinson County authorities were able to shut down all out of county assistance including the Kansas Highway Patrol aircraft prior to their arrival and all went home safe, according to Froelich.
