KHP: Kansas woman dies after car, SUV strike deer

JACKSON COUNTY —A Kansas woman died in an accident just before 9p.m. Thursday in Jackson County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Kia Optima driven by  Crystal D. Poynter, 36, Topeka, was northbound on U.S. 75 two miles north of Holton.

The car struck a deer in the roadway. A southbound 2014 Toyota Highlander driven by Nathan M. Monhollon, 34, Holton then struck the deer. After impact, the Toyota stopped on the shoulder out of the roadway.

EMS transported Nathan Monhollon and passengers in the Toyota identified as Jennifer D. Monhollon, 39 and Katelyn R. Monholon, 21, both of Holton to the Holton Community Hospital.   Jennifer Monhollon died of her injuries.

Poynter and a passenger in the KIA were not injured. All five were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

 JACKSON COUNTY, Kan.—One person died in an accident just before 9p.m. Thursday in Jackson County.

According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse a vehicle was southbound on U.S. Highway 75 south of 254th Road.  

The vehicle struck a deer. A passenger died from injuries.  The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Authorities released no additional information early Friday afternoon.
