
SALINE COUNTY —A rural Saline County home is a total loss after a fire on Thursday.
A 67-year-old resident left their home in the 10,900 blk South Hohneck Road, Saline County, Kansas, according to Saline County Undersheriff Brend Melander. Just after 5p.m., the resident returned home to find heavy smoke coming from the home. According to Melander, 250 baby chickens being kept in the basement died.
Cause of the fire could be a faulty fan left on in the kitchen, according to Melander. The home is total loss. The loss estimated by resident of the home - $150,000 for the home and $40,000 for contents.
Marquette Volunteer Fire Department, Saline County Rural Fire Department #6, Saline County Rural Fire Department #2, and Mcpherson County Rural Fire District #8 responded to the fire.
