Update: Kan. man dies, teen and baby injured in crash

JACKSON COUNTY — One person died in an accident just before 2:30a.m. Wednesday in Jackson County.

A 2004 Nissan Maxima driven by Clifford Joseph Walsh, 30, St. George was southbound on Kansas 62 Highway just south of 254th Road south of Soldier, Kansas, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

The driver lost control negotiating the curve. Deputies and first responders arrived and found the car rolled over in a rocky ravine on the east side of the highway.

 Walsh was entrapped and pronounced deceased on scene. The passenger, Emma Johnston, 17, of Manhattan, was able to free herself and her infant child from the vehicle and made it to a nearby residence to call for assistance.

EMS transported both to Stormont Vail in Topeka for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, according to Morse.

JACKSON COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal crash just after 2a.m. Wednesday in Jackson County. 

According to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, a Nissan Maxima was southbound in the 25000 block of Kansas 62 Highway south of the town of Soldier. 

The car left the roadway and rolled. A woman and baby escaped the vehicle. A man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Morse did not release his name pending notification of family.
