MCPHERSON COUNTY —A former Marion County teacher accused of having sexual contact with a student has pleaded no contest to six felony charges stemming from a years-long investigation.
Court records filed July 10 show that 30-year-old Brett McGee entered no contest pleas to six counts, including two counts of indecent liberties with a child, three counts of unlawful sexual relations and one count of aggravated intimidation of a witness.
The indecent liberties with a child and unlawful sexual relations charges are all level 5 felonies. The aggravated intimidation of a witness charge is a level 6 felony.

McGee was originally charged with 11 counts, including nine counts of unlawful sexual relations.
According to court documents, the sexual contact began when the victim was 14 years old and continued until the victim was 16. Investigators allege some of the encounters occurred inside a classroom while McGee was employed as a teacher at Peabody-Burns Junior High and High School.
The case began after the Marion County Sheriff's Office received a report in March alleging inappropriate communication between McGee and the student. McGee was arrested with assistance from the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The aggravated intimidation of a witness charge stems from allegations that McGee instructed the victim in February to delete text messages related to the investigation. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but means the defendant does not contest the charges, allowing the court to enter a conviction.
