
KANSAS CITY —A 24-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting on Sept. 28, 2021 of Wyshaud Smith, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Corey Marrett faces Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action charges.
According to court records, the defendant drove down to a tow lot where a family member and Smith had been in a dispute. The defendant's vehicle is captured on LPR and surveillance footage pulling up next to victim’s vehicle before the victim’s car pulls forward and crashes into a pole. Victim was shot behind his left ear. Defendant’s phone also shows him to be in the area at the time of the shooting.
Prosecutors is being held on a $250,000 bond.
