The Salina Police Department Thursday afternoon released additional information regarding the alleged stabbing incident in front of Walmart late Wednesday morning.

According to the media release, the 26-year-old woman who suffered a wound to her back underwent surgery and is recuperating. It is likely that she will make a full recovery, the department noted.

The department reported that an arrest affidavit was submitted to the Saline County Attorney requesting the following charges for Kenneth Harold Smith, 71, of Salina: Attempted first degree murder, Criminal use of a weapon, Aggravated weapons violation by a convicted felon and Criminal carrying of a weapon
