Kansas woman charged in attack that killed man

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A woman accused in a deadly shooting has made her first court appearance in the case.

Mercedes Muldrew, 35 of Wichita, is charged with 1st degree murder, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just after 5:30p.m. September 22, police were dispatched to a shooting at an apartment complex in 3500 block of Inwood in Wichita, according to  Ford.

Officers learned that a verbal altercation had taken place between 38-year-old Daryl Clark and a female suspect later identified as 35-year-old Mercedes Muldrew. The argument escalated when she reportedly began physically assaulting him, according to Wichita Police spokesperson Andrew Ford.

The situation further escalated when the Muldrew brandished a handgun and fired one shot, striking Clark in the chest.   EMS transported him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 6:22 p.m. Police arrested Muldrew. Her next court appearance is scheduled for October 8. She remains in jail on a $750,000 bond.
