
SEDGWICK COUNTY—A Kansas man accused of shooting a relative in the back yard of a home made his first court appearance Friday.
Phoukhong Khamvongsa, 62, Wichita, is charged with attempted 1st degree murder, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney.
Just before 5:30p.m. April 25, deputies were sent to a disturbance call involving a weapon in the 4500 block of south Meadowview in Wichita, according to Sheriff's Lt. Benjamin Blick.
When deputies arrived, they located a 55-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the backyard of a residence.
EMS transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of critical injuries. The suspect identified as 62-year-old Phoukhong Khamvongsa of Wichita, was arrested at the residence and booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Facility on requested charges of Aggravated Battery.
The victim and suspect are family members, according to Blick.
He is scheduled for another court appearance on May 9. He remains jailed on a $500,000 bond.
