City of Wichita to require masks for employees, contractors

WICHITA —Sedgwick County is now at a “High” level of community transmission for COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's COVID-19 Community Level framework. 

Masks are now required for city employees when they are unable to maintain social distancing. Masks are encouraged for employees and visitors in all city facilities, according to the city of Wichita.

COVID-19 Community Levels are determined by the number of COVID-19 cases reported over the last 7 days per 100,000 residents, new hospital admissions, and the number of hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients.

The Kansas Department of Health reported 7,626 new coronavirus cases in Kansas from Wednesday July 13 to Wednesday July 20, for a total of  827,301 cases. The state also reported  9 additional COVID-19 deaths.

There were 844 new cases of COVID in Wichita during the same time period, according to the Sedgwick County Health Department.
