City of Topeka fires Chief Financial Officer after his arrest

SHAWNEE COUNTY – The City of Topeka announced Tuesday that it is parting ways with Chief Financial Officer Freddy Mawyin, according to a media release from the city.

Mawyin had been on administrative leave since December 11, following his arrest on a requested charge of domestic battery.

Just before 10 p.m. on Dec. 10, police were called to a home in the 4400 block of SW Lincolnshire Road for a  report of a past domestic dispute that occurred Dec. 9, according to a media release.

Throughout the course of the investigation, police determined Mawyin was the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Shawnee Co. Dept. of Corrections on a requested charges of domestic battery.

Rachelle Mathews has been named Acting Finance Director and will serve in the role until further notice.
