Police: 1 suspect in custody after fatal Kansas drive-by shooting

SUMNER COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in Wellington and have one suspect in custody.

A 1:43p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a shooting in the 800 block of East 16th Street in Wellington, according Police Captain Paul Nefzger.

Upon arrival officers found the victim who had been shot in the chest. He died at the scene.

According to Nefzger, investigators determined two vehicle  westbound on 16th Street when someone in a car shot at the pickup and hitting the victim. 

After visiting with witnesses, police had one suspect in custody Wednesday evening, according to Nefzger. Charges against the suspect are expected Thursday.  Walter Edward Taylor, 21, is being held without bond on a requested charge of second-degree murder, according to online jail records in Sumner County.

Officers continue to question others and have received videos from citizens to assist with the investigation, according to Nefzger.

Nefzger did not released the victim's name late Wednesday.
