Kan. man accused of shooting that left victim in critical condition

SHAWNEE COUNTY – A man is recovering in the hospital following a shooting in Topeka and police have made an arrest.

Just before 10:30 a.m. Feb. 11, police responded to a reported shooting near SE 2nd Street and Golden Avenue, according to Police Lt. Ronnie Connell. 

First responders located a man who had reportedly been shot by someone who is known to him. American Medical Response (AMR) and the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) responded to provide medical care, and the individual was transported to a local hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. 

Shortly after, officers located a vehicle believed to belong to the suspect in the 300 block of SE Lime Street.

While officers attempted to make contact with the suspect, no one was located at the address.

On Thursday, police reported the arrest of Robert Bennett, 27, of Topeka. He is being held in the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested charges of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Assault.
