KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement investigating a weekend homicide in Kansas have identified the victim as 18-year-old Zamauria Jones, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.
Just after 10p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the 7600 block of Monroe Avenue on a reported sound of shots call for service. While officers were on the way to the call, they were flagged down by an individual who stated she was transporting a shooting victim, later identified as Jones, to the hospital and needed help.
Officers immediately removed Jones from the vehicle. She was unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot trauma.
Medical aid was provided for Jones by officers on scene until emergency medical personnel responded. Jones was immediately transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Police have not reported information indicating what lead up to the shooting. Police are working to gather information on anyone who may be responsible for this incident.
