$180,000 damage after fire at Kansas home

RILEY COUNTY —The cause of a fire at a duplex in Manhattan is under investigation.

Just before 1a.m. Sunday, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 931 Connecticut Avenue, according to a media release.

First responders found a single-story residential duplex with heavy fire showing from the rear of the residence. Fire companies extinguished the deck that was on fire, while other companies made an interior attack on the main body of fire and searched the residence.

The fire was contained within 20 minutes. The occupants were not at home at the time of the fire.  The occupants of 929 Connecticut Avenue had evacuated before the fire department's arrival.

No injuries were reported. 

Loss is estimated at $150,000 to the structure and $30,000 of contents of 931 Connecticut Avenue and $2,000 damage to 929 Connecticut Avenue.
