KANSAS CITY (AP) — Two people died and one firefighter was injured in an early Friday morning house fire on the north end of Kansas City, officials said.
A neighbor called 911 around 5:40 a.m. to report smoke coming from the house, and firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the home, officials said.
A firefighter who then entered the home through the front door fell through the floor into the basement, television station WDAF reported. Fellow firefighters used a ladder to retrieve their colleague, who was treated for burns and minor injuries.
After the fire was extinguished, crews found the bodies of two people — one male and the other female, officials said. Authorities did not immediately identify the victims.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
